one last time

Oh, John was born out of wedlock,
to family in the frozen north.
In the early winter, nineteen eighty-two.
Not that he knew anything of it,
but they were poor as fucking shit,
and there was nothing that anyone could do.

The world is full of colour and the world is full of light.
The world is full of people who get paid.
But his family they weren't one of them.
All squandered in the night.
The fifty p's were going down the drain.

His father, an electricians mate.
Some food was going on the plate.
His mum stayed at home as mother's do.
And, John was not aware of it,
but oil and water do not mix,
and they were just a pair of mismatched fools.

The world is full of youngsters with no business to procreate.
Their worldview way too small to make the grade.
And their children bear the brunt of all these juvenile mistakes.
That's just the way it is and shall remain.

Oh, the world was neon tinged bit drab.
The curtains brown, the young ones mad.
The madness of the times was plain to hear.
But, John was young and didn't know,
how far his start in life could take him,
once he was awake and self aware.

Oh, the world is filled with fears, but you're just too young to know.
You can't yet see the way that things can be.
You lay within your childhood home, protected from the snow.
But, things go on that you just do not see.

Four years later, things went bad.
His mum, his sister, not his dad.
Were running down the hill to get away.
To get away from things not seen in Johnny-boy's most lucid dreams.
To get away and never once look back.

The world is full of colour, and the world is full of light.
The world is full of people who escape.
Escape from possibilities that never last the night.
The price, too much for the women to pay.

Can you hear the monsters that are hiding in the forest?
Can you hear the monsters?
They're just over there.
Be careful of your noise, or the monsters will hear you.
