[shell] was written for a celebration concert to mark the departure of Laura Tunbridge from the music department at the University of Manchester in 2014. Using only the phonetic material derived from Tunbridge's name, this short work superimposed various vocal behaviours (vowel sound, consonant articulations, vocal fry, etc.) into a stuttering/quivering hybrid. Using only a single tone, pitch is gradually removed and at that remains by the end is an articulative guttural shell.

Ron Herrema is a freelance composer of music, sound and image. He composes both acoustic and electroacoustic music, as well as both still and moving image. He has a particular (but not exclusive) affinity for algorithmic techniques in both realms. Currently residing in England, he is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan and received his PhD in composition from Michigan State University. He worked as a full-time lecturer at Northeastern University from 2001-2004 and at De Montfort University from 2004-2011. In 2008 he began his study of Deep Listening practice with Pauline Oliveros and continues to look for ways to flow musically into, with, and through the world.

Cienfuegos, Cuba, 1987 / Compositor y violinista

Actualmente realiza su doctorado en composición musical en la Universidad Católica Argentina. En 2013 culmina sus estudios musicales en la Facultad de Música en la Universidad de las Artes (ISA). Desde los siete años comenzó a estudiar violín y desde su graduación en 2005 en la Escuela Nacional de las Artes (ENA) se ha desempeñado como violinista y profesor en diversas instituciones y organismos musicales en Cuba y Argentina. Ha participado en varios proyectos culturales: exposiciones colectivas de artes plásticas, obras de teatro y danza.
