Presentation and biography:

Bot’Ox is a duo formed in 2005 by Frenchmen Julien Briffaz and Cosmo Vitelli. After a road trip to Babylon («Babylon by Car», their first album released in 2010), they come back to haunt dark clubs with a second album, «Sans Dormir», to be released November 6, 2013. The album consists of ten tracks, mostly sung, some of which have already been released in the form of singles and remixes with videos during the year.

For the second album, the battered Cadillac comes to a stop in the parking lot of a deserted nightclub as suggested by the visuals presented with the project, abandoned French clubs as photographed by Phillipe Lebruman. In the same way as cars, far from being a futuristic symbol of progress and speed, can give a foretaste of the junkyard, the night club, a symbol of youth and vitality, contains in its promise of sleepless nights the inevitable ensuing fatigue.

This decor is the ambiguous setting for songs that speak of love as any pop album does. In «Sans Dormir» however, insomnia is a solitary adventure. Opening with a spectral visit from downstairs - «Basement Love» - the album continues with «Grands Boulevards,» an instinctive nocturnal trip where rockabilly guitars rub elbows with moogs while giving an account of obsessions, recurring dreams and waking nightmares. «2.4.1» speaks of disillusionment in love while leaning towards soft rock. «Another Form of Fatigue» tries to tame the migraine with a dubby feel. «Back from the Suburbs» is a twisted electro-rock ballad. «Goodbye Fantasy» is an anti-declaration of love with pro-British pop accents. «The Face of Another» is a kind of dissatisfied, sexually wandering discopop while «Night Stuntman» is a psychedelic credit roll for a movie with no happy ending. The sweet «Unfinished Business» makes an attempt at reconciliation, before the synthesizers all emerge for the title track «Sans Dormir.»

In the cold but heartfelt voices of the artists are a meeting of male and female intimacy, which sometimes reply to each other («Unfinished Business»). These voices include Mark Kerr, Anna Jean and Judy Nylon (of the legendary punk band Snatch), already present on the first album. They are joined here by Samy Osta and Foremost Poets, the iconic trans-Atlantic voice of underground house / techno. The «deluxe» version of the album adds to these ten titles a series of tracks that were unreleased or previously only available in digital format.

The two members of Bot’Ox are prominent figures of electronic music “made in France.”
Julien Briffaz was for a long time part of the house and techno duo Tekel, also written [T]ékël. All brawn on the dancefloor and full of humor in the titles («Deep Turtle» or «Acid Bonanga» are part of their anthology tracks), the two mutts each took a different canine road in 2009 after a slew of singles and an album published in 2006 with Initial Cuts. Since then, you are most likely to find Julien Briffaz in the studio.

Cosmo Vitelli earned his reputation as a producer during the early French Touch years, remixing or being remixed by De Crecy, Cassius and Daft Punk. He also during this time produced a wealth of personal works which lead to the release of the album «Clean» in 2003. In 2004, he founded the label «I’m a Cliché» to whom we owe the debut success of Simian Mobile Disco, Azari & III and Yuksek. His consuming passion for music gradually balances out, spread among three roles: DJing, running his label, and being one-half of Bot’Ox.

Cosmo Vitelli and Julien Briffaz came together by indulging their common obsessions: an aesthetic mecha- nical universe, marked by the mythology of the automobile and the paradoxical fragility of its bodywork, and a fanatical mutating vision of music.
After a few EPs appeared on prestigious labels such as DFA and DC Recordings and Marketing, their pre- mier album «Babylon by Car» was released in 2010 by I’m a Cliché. This highway, made up of eleven tracks, alternates car chases, anxiety-filled passage through customs and forest walks at dusk. There, the sensual and melancholic voices of Anna Jean, Mark Kerr and Judy Nylon resonate.

Oscillating between the deserted road and the sweaty dancefloor, the Bot’Ox playground extended to the big screen as the duo composed the soundtrack of the film Mineurs 27 directed by the Frenchman Tristan Aurouet (2011). We find excerpts of this soundtrack on the bonus CD of «Sans Dormir» – along with titles for the film Dias de Gracia from Mexican director Everardo Gout (2012).

Get Up Recordings is back with another New York-meets-London collaboration from Hannah Holland (label owner of Batty Bass, Native City). Hannah Holland is a product of all the best bits of London club culture. She condenses the most innovative and exciting parties, scenes, movements, subcultures, and music into one frenetic curly haired whirlwind of a DJ. The Live It EP is a double A-side release that features vocals from club legends and remixers who are on the forefront of the underground club scene, from both sides of the pond. First up is “Live It”. The original is inspired by the New York Ballroom House genre, taking cues from NYC club kids like its featured vocalist, Xander. With a dark, cutting bass line, equally cutting percussion, and vocals that reference the city nightlife, the track easily lends itself to the underground dance floor. Label owners Christy Love and W. Jeremy re-work the title track under their moniker House of Stank. Their remix is the housiest interpretation on the package with its bright, uplifting keys, swinging percussion, and thumping bass. Fellow New Yorkers, The Carry Nation also take a cue from the NY Ballroom genre for their remix, infusing it with their signature style of tribal beats, stabbing bass hits, and vocal FX samples. The second original track on the release, “Play With the Maid,” is a dark and edgy house track filled with bitch-house style vocals provided by British DJ and producer Josh Caffe who makes reference to The Shed, an infamous after-hours spot tucked away deep in East London. Rounding out the EP is a remix of “Play With the Maid” from London’s The Cucarachas (Tom Stephan and Borja Peña). They give the track a super old school house vibe complete with chord stabs, driving four-on-the-floor beats, and a grooving bass line that kills. This release is a prerequisite for all after-hours heads. &#13;

Matt Walsh’s Clouded Vision Recordings presents their biggest EP to date with two peak time tracks from one of the figureheads of the French electronic scene. Backed with remixes from the label owner himself alongside Get Physical regular and head of Lithuania’s “Best Kept Secret”, Vidis.

Remote’s first release partnering Jennifer Cardini in 2005 as “Jenny Goes Dirty” warmly welcomed them to France’s label of the moment, “Kill The Dj”. The EP included a cover of the classic ‘Amoureux Solitaire’ and was picked up by the cream of the electro & techno crop including Tiga, James Holden, Tiefschwarz, Chloe & Ivan Smagghe. The duo have since recorded on an array of French imprints including Meant, Fondation, Tigersushi and Gesaffelstein’s “Zone”.

The A-side, Alcyone, is highlighted by an infectious synth hook blended with a powerful bass-line to create the most unique and stand-out record Clouded Vision Recordings have released.  The second track, “Talk” is more of a jacking house affair, yet still full of John Carpenter infused melodies that build throughout it’s 9 minute existence.

With Matt’s most recent original material released on Kill The DJ, a remix from the label owner paved way for a perfect fit.  He lowers the tempo and adds a rolling 303 acid line to craft a late night groove, perfect for the more discerning floors.  Fresh from releases on “Get Physical” with production partner Mario Basanov, Vidis opts for a homage to French new wave by giving “Talk” an abundance of funk and sex appeal.

Bleeping Sauce is the new live band project from esteemed Minus and Items&Things duo CLICK BOX who have teamed up with the highly talented Eli Iwasa & Marcos Taga. Presented here is a new EP from them on Meant that showcases their dynamic sound, it comes with three original tracks and a set of tasty remixes by Remote, Matt Walsh and Villanova.
Brazilians Marco A.S and Pedro Turra have been on top of the techno and minimal worlds since 2006 thanks to their inventive and abstract sounds on only the finest labels. This new project shows they have another feather to their bow and sees them explore a sinewy, lovably machine made sound.
‘Sounds and Stories’ goes first and is a space-age bit of dark wave tech funk with layers of gurgling synths, stark drums and a cool female vocal that adds tons of punk attitude to proceedings. Ivan Smagghe or Andrew Weatherall would lap this sort of tune up with its gothic disco vibes. ‘Set Time’ is another great bit of dark and dirty disco with searching synths, apocalyptic atmospheres and purposeful, live sounding drums. It squeals and shoots in many different directions at once as a corrugated bassline ties the whole thing together. Then comes ‘Cherry Green’ with more aloof sounding female vocals, 80s dark wave drums and rubbery guitar lines. It’s a fine bit of work that sounds like little else out there and is beautifully sombre in mood.
First remixer Remote is a musical duo made up of Eric Guillanton and Seb Fouble, a pair recognized as one of the figureheads of the French electro scene. Their take on ‘Cherry Green’ is a filthy dirty, scuzzy and serrated synth laden slo-mo electro track that will send the ‘floor into raptures.
Next up is Matt Walsh, the Brit famed for being a unique sonic craftsmen who often DJs with Daniel Avery, is a Bugged Out regular and releases on Turbo and Phantasy Sound. His take on ‘Sounds and Stories’ is a moody late night affair with dazzling synth stabs, cooing female vocals and swathes of lovely echo and reverb that lend the track a hazy, dreamy air.
The young duet of Parisian producers that is Villanova, of labels like No.19 Music & My Favorite Robot, goes last with a remix of ‘Cherry Green’ that is turbo charged and tumultuous with big drums, spaceship like synths, bleepy melodies and generally manic robotic charm with an anthemic female vocal line up top.
With this release MEANT introduce the world to what is sure to be an essential new project from the Click Box boys.

It gets confused with blurred vision, but clouded vision cloudy is a completely different ailment altogether. 
Things appear ‘milky’ as if you’re looking through a cloudy piece of glass in one or both eyes. It also dulls perception of colours and cause you to see halos around lights, which can be beautiful but doesn't make it easy if you are driving or operating heavy machinery.
As well as this it is the mighty label run by Matt Walsh which has signed up the most explosive act from York since Guido Fawkes, Tecwaa. Cutting his teeth on Jo Howard's Sulk Magic label, Tecwaa, also known to some as Paul Fawcett has been creating waves in recent months.
His latest EP contains the track 'Always and the End', which has been lovingly recrafted by label head Matt Walsh who together build a dystopian piece of disco which digs deep with pads, live sounding drums and a vibe which is primed to warm dancefloors in the coming winter months.  Already getting the seal of approval from the 'Guvernor' Andrew Weatherall, it looks like Tecwaa's star is rising.
Go listen, buy and love it. Because it's the right thing to do!

For the second installment of the Stallions saga, Bosconi Records entrusts the fate of the muscular thoroughbred Neged. Matt Walsh’s inter­est in DJing and pro­duc­tion was fos­tered in the late 1990′s, while he was at uni­ver­si­ty and pro­gres­sive house was at its peak. Fast-for­ward a cou­ple of years, a new decade her­ald­ed the birth of Elec­tro­clash and with it DJ Hell’s Gigo­lo Records, City Rock­ers and Play­house. As Matt began to devel­op his trade­mark sound of mod­ern dis­co-infused elec­tron­ic house and tech­no, an offer of a res­i­den­cy at East London’s sem­i­nal T‑Bar club set off a chain of events that would lead to Tur­bo Record­ings don Tiga spot­ting him there in 2007. He then became a long term res­i­dent of Bugged Out! and Tur­bo and has since toured the globe alone and with oth­er artists.

Matt’s record label, Cloud­ed Vision Record­ings has seen releas­es from tal­ent from all cor­ners, includ­ing Red Axes, long term friend Daniel Avery and many more. His two mixed com­pi­la­tions “The Cloud­ed Vision Exper­i­ment” received crit­i­cal acclaim from Mix­mag, GQ and DJ Mag.

Since relo­cat­ing to Mar­gate in 2017, Matt has been busy opening The Tap Room and has trans­formed one of Margate’s secret spots into a boom­ing small bar, where you can expect to see local and trav­el­ling DJs play­ing every week, as well as a great mix of cock­tails and craft beer.



In 2023 Matt reignited his old clubnight "Movement" which was originally formed with Daniel Avery back in 2011. The new version is held quarterly at Faith In Strangers, Margate and the first three sold out parties have seen Erol Alkan, Daniel Avery , Optimo and Richard Fearless join Matt on the decks for the night. August will welcome Manfredas to Margate for the first time and some very exciting collaborations are to follow in 2025.
