Burning Man 2015, 

What a week. What a challenge. What a breeze. What a great time. What an awful time. At times, I wished it wouldn't end. At times, I wanted to go home...REAL home.

This was my 6th burn, and what I walked away with was largely a reinforcement of what I learned the year before: Burning Man is complicated. There are lots of ups and downs. It's unpredictable.

Is this conclusion I've reached the same conclusion all experienced burners eventually come to? Or did I happen to have 2 challenging years in a row? Will I ever have an Innocent Burn just like my first one where everything was amazing all the time? I would like to.

This is my set from the Kalliope art car, recorded Wednesday night at 2am. The Kalliope crew was nice enough to let me host my own night and invite my dear friends to play on their amazing bus, which was a new and exciting thing for me to do that I'm super grateful for. One thing that was consistently awesome in my experience was the crew's unwavering positivity, enthusiasm, and humility - it was inspiring to work with them.

The night was blisteringly cold: my fingers, ears, feet, and nipples nearly froze off, so you'll hear some rawness (sloppiness) in this recording...but it does have its moments too. I suppose the ups and downs you'll hear in the recording are a metaphor for the ups and downs I experienced at the burn. So from that perspective, this is the perfect way for me to communicate my personal experience to you. I hope you enjoy it, and hope to see you in 2016.

Scøpe, a Korean techno Producer / DJ and administrator of SCOPÁVIK​ Podcast, is now . Composition methods encompassing atonal music, experimental music, spectral music, minimal music and etc. that he had learned when he majored in contemporary music composition, and rhythmical elements of Jazz and Black music that he has had deep interest in since his childhood altogether largely influenced the music that he pursues now, and he is now on his way of establishing his own world of music with many remix tracks and EP releases.
His dynamic DJ sets almost push the listeners into trance by eliciting their subconscious movements with new grooves which rhythmical structures in each track organically intertwine with each other and incrementally accumulate into, and then all of a sudden lead them to a lyrical tone, thus presenting listeners with the type of joy that only techno music can deliver by creating an intersection between reason and instinct.

한국의 테크노 프로듀서 / DJ 인 Scøpe 는 SCOPÁVIK​ 팟캐스트 시리즈의 운영자이기도 하며, 현재 서울에서 활동중이다. 그가 현대음악 작곡을 전공하며 배운 무조음악, 실험음악, 배음렬음악, 미니멀 음악 등의 작법과 어린시절부터 좋아했던 재즈와 흑인음악의 리듬적 요소는 그의 음악에 많은 영향을 끼쳤고, 현재 다수의 리믹스 트랙과 EP 발매를 통해 자신만의 음악세계를 구축해나가고 있다.
그의 역동적인 디제이셋은 트랙마다의 리듬적 구조가 유기적으로 얽히고 점층적으로 쌓여가며 만들어지는 새로운 그루브를 통해 청중들로 하여금 무의식적 움직임을 끌어내어 무아지경에 빠져들게 하다가도 어느 순간 서정적 분위기로 이끌고, 이성과 본능의 교차점을 만들어 테크노 음악만이 줄수 있는 기쁨을 선사한다.

Carhartt WIP Radio is back and brings an extended trip into the world of the US-American duo Peaking Lights, consisting of Indra Dunis and Aaron Coyes. Since 2008 they bewitch with psychedelic influenced pop music that seems to be originated on another planet. So far, they have released more than eight albums on label’s like Night-People, Not Not Fun, Mexican Summer and the Domino imprint Weird World. You can add more than a dozen Eps and 7 inches, plus tapes and foremost countless live shows around the globe. For their 10th anniversary Aaron Coyes dug deep in the Peaking Lights archives and put together an epic Carhartt WIP Retrospective Radio Show that blends in a chronologic order some of their earliest recordings, some of his solo stuff and more unheard psyching music to display the progression of a duo that seems to have found the fifth state of consciousness.

In Hour 2 we hand over to Garden City Movement ahead of their debut album release ‘Apollonia’ which is out next week on Night Time Stories, the sister label for Late Night Tales. The Israeli trio of Roy Avital, Yoav Saar and Johnny Sharoni produce a blend of sounds drawn from their diverse cultural worlds; ranging from art­pop to experimental house to horizontally­-aligned vibes. They had this to say about their mix;
"From Israeli 80's new wave through Japanese 90's rarities to UK contemporary electronica, we tried to mix stuff we listen to. In Hour 2 we hand over to Jamie Tiller who runs the excellent Music From Memory label alongside fellow record connoisseur Tako Reyenga. Music From Memory is widely regarded as one of the most exciting labels to have emerged within the last five years. It has become synonymous with the release of visionary electronic music from the past as well as present. Together, Jamie and Tako also run Second Circle, a sister label specialising in genre bending dance music. Along with Raphael Top Secret, Jamie has recently compiled the much anticipated ‘Uneven Paths: Deviant Pop From Europe 1980-1991’, which will be released on Music From Memory in March 2018. He told us;
"I recorded this mix with two CDJs,  two turnables and a Rodec MX180. one CD is usually enough but I had quite a few nice unreleased things from friends I wanted to play and some upcoming Second Circle and MFM so I ended up playing most on the CDJs. I put in a few things I’ve really enjoyed playing out recently and a few recent buys. There’s a fair few bits of old UK stuff, not intentional really.. just happened that way."

Matt Walsh’s inter­est in DJing and pro­duc­tion was fos­tered in the late 1990′s, while he was at uni­ver­si­ty and pro­gres­sive house was at its peak. Fast-for­ward a cou­ple of years, a new decade her­ald­ed the birth of Elec­tro­clash and with it DJ Hell’s Gigo­lo Records, City Rock­ers and Play­house. As Matt began to devel­op his trade­mark sound of mod­ern dis­co-infused elec­tron­ic house and tech­no, an offer of a res­i­den­cy at East London’s sem­i­nal T‑Bar club set off a chain of events that would lead to Tur­bo Record­ings don Tiga spot­ting him there in 2007. He then became a long term res­i­dent of Bugged Out! and Tur­bo and has since toured the globe alone and with oth­er artists.

Matt’s record label, Cloud­ed Vision Record­ings has seen releas­es from tal­ent from all cor­ners, includ­ing Red Axes, long term friend Daniel Avery and many more. His two mixed com­pi­la­tions “The Cloud­ed Vision Exper­i­ment” received crit­i­cal acclaim from Mix­mag, GQ and DJ Mag.

Since relo­cat­ing to Mar­gate in 2017, Matt has been busy opening The Tap Room and has trans­formed one of Margate’s secret spots into a boom­ing small bar, where you can expect to see local and trav­el­ling DJs play­ing every week, as well as a great mix of cock­tails and craft beer.



In 2023 Matt reignited his old clubnight "Movement" which was originally formed with Daniel Avery back in 2011. The new version is held quarterly at Faith In Strangers, Margate and the first three sold out parties have seen Erol Alkan, Daniel Avery , Optimo and Richard Fearless join Matt on the decks for the night. August will welcome Manfredas to Margate for the first time and some very exciting collaborations are to follow in 2025.
