Therapeutic DJ Mixes

This six-hour marathon set was recorded on Memorial Day 2013 for a secret  psychedelic gathering on the Black Rock Playa, home of the Burning Man festival. It was a beautiful evening where I felt completely in the flow—my head, mind, and heart integrated. The playa was vast and serene, illuminated by moonlight that made it feel like another planet. The sunrise transformed an already fantastic journey into a peak life experience. After a partial release, this is the first time I'm posting the entire six-hour newly mastered recording. It's a seamless deep dive into my collection of psychedelic house, trippy techno, hypnotic trance, and expansive progressive soundscapes. Enjoy the trip!

Black Rock Marathon Journey (full 6 hour set)

Matt Xavier presents an MDA & 2CB infused three-hour live DJ mix of melodic house and techno recorded live for a psychedelic gathering at the Cuyama Badlands. A big shout-out goes to the late Alexander & Ann Shulgin for the many incredible compounds they discovered and shared with humanity throughout their amazing lives.

Matt Xavier: Opening for Minilogue, San Francisco

In celebration of my new book "The Psychedelic DJ" (a.co/d/dygri6S), I am releasing a 7.25-hour longform audio protocol that I created for a unique recreational medicine day with a group of therapists, facilitators, and guides—many of whom were exploring new combinations of psychedelic/empathogenic medicines in a safe, supported, intentional/recreational social setting.

The experience included two overlapping groups, each moving through distinct pharmacological timelines involving MDMA, psilocybin, 2C-B, and ketamine.

Group 1 began with MDMA, followed by a psilocybin boost at 90 minutes and a ketamine boost around the 4.5-hour mark. 

Group 2 began with MDMA and added 2C-B approximately 3 hours in.

The music was curated to reflect and support the evolving energetic waves of these substances—beginning with warm, heart-opening ambient textures, slowly building into layered rhythms and deep psychedelic atmospheres that aligned with peak moments, and gently grounding into more spacious, landing tones near the end.

Unlike typical DJ mixes, which contain multiple different tracks, this particular protocol consists of full or partial albums, with moments of single tracks interwoven throughout. It’s a fusion of extended album segments and carefully chosen standalone pieces, creating one long, immersive journey. The compilation is mixed to ensure smooth transitions, maintaining continuity throughout the experience—allowing the journey to flow naturally and seamlessly from start to finish.

Rather than the therapeutic protocols that accompany the book, this set includes some subtle, washed-out, ethereal vocals and 4/4 beat-driven passages, inviting connection, joy, curiosity, and introspection while still maintaining emotional depth, safety, and fun.

Psychedelic Summer Camp 2024 (7 hour group journey, see info for details)

https://soundcloud.com/mattxavier has been a friend of mine for many years now. A fellow music obsessive and trusted voice when it comes to all things ambient, techno, and beyond, we finally managed to meet in person while I lived in Los Angeles, and we stayed connected over music ever since. 

We’ve swapped stories about pressing vinyl and running labels, and he was the reason I first crossed paths with Joel Mull (Damm) at one of his gatherings held at a beautiful Topanga home. It was a serendipitous moment that still echoes today. 

A proponent for the deeper layers found in music, Matt has since become a practician, ambassador, and pioneer for psychedelic soundtracking. Along the way, he shared tracks from ASIP and other labels that were influencing and guiding his private sessions, shaping the grand masterpiece we present to you today. As his practice deepened, we exchanged many texts discussing his ambition to publish a book about his unique experience and include an accompanying mix on ASIP.

Matt Xavier is a professional ambient-techno DJ, gestalt experiential counselor, psychedelic-assisted therapist and author of The Psychedelic DJ: A Practical Guide to Therapeutic Music Curation & Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy: https://a.co/d/j7efcy9

Since 1993, Matt's contribution to the global electronic music culture has been undeniably psychedelic. In the early 90's he co-founded New York City's first and foremost psychedelic trance company, Tsunami Productions, where he served as resident DJ and music director until the turn of the millennium. Following his departure from the psy-trance format, he began producing deep techno, house and progressive under the moniker "Gruvhaus", with releases & remixes appearing on such labels as Fabric, Release Records, Polyester Music, Fugu and Chug Records. 

In 2005, he founded the NYC techno-house music imprint Railyard Recordings which saw releases and remixes from such international techno legends as Joel Mull, Cari Lekebusch, Alexi Delano and Donato Dozzy. While residing in Los Angeles, Matt held the role of resident DJ and music director at Compression, The Mor Bar and Subtract Music. 

Matt has performed at many of North America's most prominent electronic music festivals, venues, and underground gatherings, as well as select events around the globe. Known for his unique blend of psychedelic house, trippy techno, and hypnotic ambient/chillout, his sound has consistently created transformative spaces for dancers and listeners alike.

Today, Matt’s focus is on providing effective, clinically grounded, guided psychedelic therapy for individuals seeking mental and spiritual healing through the intentional and safe use of psychedelic medicines.
