Delicious Vinyl brings you Sunset Blvd, the new album from Yancey Boys, the group piloted by John “Illa J” Yancey and Frank Nitt. The dynamic new collection is built around previously unheard tracks created by Illa J’s brother: the late, great J Dilla (James Yancey). With Frank Nitt’s standing as J Dilla Music Catalog Curator and the official approval of Yancey Media Group, all productions on Sunset Blvd originate from The Lost Scrolls — the stunning cache of beats Dilla left behind.

With its rapturous single “Quicksand” featuring Common, Sunset Blvd also teams Yancey Boys with De La Soul’s Posdnuos (“Beautiful”), The Pharcyde’s SlimKid3 (“Rock My World”), and T3 of Slum Village (“Jeep Volume”), making it clear that the Dilla legacy is being represented by those who knew and collaborated with Dilla in his lifetime. Additional guests on Sunset Blvd include DJs Rhettmatic, C-Minus, and JRocc (Beat Junkies) as well as rap roughneck Guilty Simpson and R&B strongman Eric Roberson. “We’ve created an album that would make Dilla proud,” says Frank Nitt, who grew up with Dilla in Detroit. “But this isn’t a nostalgia trip: Dilla’s beats were so future-forward that they’re right on time in 2013, and we’ve assembled the best artists possible to represent that.”

Yancey Boys "Quicksand" (feat. Common And Dezi Paige)

In the closing months of 2012 BBE label artist Chris Read was enlisted by classic Los Angeles imprint Delicious Vinyl to produce a mixtape for Wax Poetics magazine celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the release of The Pharcyde's seminal debut LP 'Bizarre Ride'. The resulting mix was a runaway success clocking tens of thousands of plays online and kickstarted a relationship with the label that would go on to see Chris remix two of the group's best loved tracks, 'Runnin' and 'Passin Me By'.

Those tracks are now available for the first time on this limited edition BBE x Delicious Vinyl double vinyl 7inch release. Treating the familiar original with respect, Chris has called upon the vocal talents of long time collaborators Lizzy Parks (Tru Thoughts) and guitarist Giles Barratt (Breakin Bread) to rework passages from 'Runnin' to create a 2014 update on the themes of the much loved Jay Dee produced classic. 'Passin Me By' meanwhile gets a '90s throwback rework utilising sample material from the original to great effect to create a track which bears all the hallmarks of the golden era.
Mastered and cut by Walter Coelho who cut Jay Dee's 'Welcome to Detroit' back in 2001, the circle is complete!

The late, great J Dilla is widely regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop producers of all time.  Since his death in 2006, Dilla’s mother Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey has worked tirelessly to further her son’s legacy, and her latest effort is the new project Motor City.  Inspired by Dilla’s beloved hometown, Motor City is a collection of rare and unreleased Jay Dee instrumentals, hand-selected and sequenced by Ma Dukes.  Conceived as a “letter” to her son, Motor City is packaged in a limited-edition mailing envelope, complete with a handwritten message from Ma Dukes to J Dilla inside.  This 19-track collection is now available at physical and digital outlets worldwide.
