The cover art proudly proclaims Technique's Summer 2016 album to be “100% Drum and Bass”. You might be forgiven for thinking that begs more questions that it answers. There's a huge breadth and versatility encompassed within the genre. So, you're left asking, what particular flavour of D&B are we talking about? Well, to answer your query, pretty much all of them.

Across thirty-seven tracks, Drumsound and Bassline Smith have assembled a cross-section of D&B that only has one thing in common: that summertime vibe. The label bosses themselves roll through with the fluid jungle of the Solah-laced “Cover Our Eyes”, the no-holds-barred funk of “Rise of the Black Panther” and their epic dubwise collaboration with Digital, “First World Problem”.

And then there are the big name cameos from artists not normally seen under the Technique banner. Brookes Brothers and Danny Byrd team up with the uplifting drive of “Climb High”, matched in hands-in-the-air power by the euphoric piano of The Prototypes' “Don't Let Me Go”. J Majik recruits 78° and Louie Cabrera for “Day I Left” and “Idcomercial” respectively. And the mighty DJ SS drops an emotively claustrophobic killer in the form of “Expression”.

Of course, the regular regiment of Technique soldiers are present and correct too. Tantrum Desire delivers the tech atmospherics of “Tesoro”, while Kronology subverts the big-room sound with the unpredictable twists and turns of “Everyday”. L Plus backs up rumbling bass and popping beats with entwined chord patterns in “Invincible”. Plus Document One show two different sides to their character, with the jazzfunk vibe of “Klaxon” and the paranoid sci-fi of “Say What”.

And we're nowhere near covering everything this album has to offer. From the jungle tear-out of Brian Brainstorm's “Badman Selector” to the minimal magic of Oder's “Mesmerize”, via the liquid purity of Salaryman's “He Knows”, this is a journey that needs to be experienced. Any selection that takes you straight from Fade's “Disco Ball” into Conspire's “Glare of Brass” then to Salaryman's “Synthesized Melancholia” is making a statement about the strength in depth of the D&B genre right now.

It's all here. This is the whole summertime drum and bass experience cut up into thirty-seven expertly-formed slices which, taken together, represent the full spectrum of what the scene has to offer. It's as simple as that.

Kronology - Everyday [Friction Premiere] Summer 2016 LP

Featuring the huge Vibeizm remixes of Kontrol and In Boundless Light, the Vibeizm boys smash another package out there geared to devastate your hearing.

No stranger to huge club anthems, Warner Powers now drops a new bomb, “Kontrol”, a collaboration project with Michael Patterson and featuring the gorgeous vocals of Andrea Britton. A deep, moody, progressive houser that builds and rolls to an epic crescendo of uplifting riffs and rising synths. On the remix, Vibeizm smash it with their bass heavy dubstep re-interpretation.

Vibeizm’s chilled remix of Vincent De Jager’s beautiful In Boundless Light with luscious singer Emma Lock really shows the diversity of their sound. Big track!

2019 saw the release of the legendary Murdock’s debut album on Viper, Stronger, packed full of upbeat, feel-good anthems, some of which have already amassed millions of streams – tracks like ‘Holding On’ feat. James Marvel and ‘Can’t Keep Me Down’ feat. Sena & Shystie. Not only has Murdock been smashing the streams; his album earned consistent support from major tastemakers like BBC Radio’s MistaJam and Annie Mac, not to mention huge support form the DJ circuit and beyond. 

Now, Murdock smashes through a new decade with the first of several singles on Viper to continue the Stronger story. First up is a brand new original, ‘Dollars Aren’t Cheap’, featuring the country-esque vocals of FLX. Another genre-bending, enticing single, FLX draws the listener in with his earnest, heartstring-tugging-vocals before the track explodes gently into shimmering, vibrant drum & bass. Hints of horns add to the fun, as do elegant string and piano sections for an overall warm, comforting, organic track that highlights Murdock’s varied and impressive abilities as a producer. 

The flipside is a remix of one of the album’s most well-loved tracks, ‘Can’t Keep Me Down’, taken on by Ukrainian producer VovKING. Opening on a much more ominous note, the track’s iconic vocals take the spotlight as the track slowly builds, evidently a much darker take on the original with shadowy drums and pounding basslines. The drop offers an alternative groove whilst the vocals maintain a powerful weight, transforming the track into something completely new while still paying homage to the original message. 

As one of the most celebrated and positive influences in the drum & bass world, it’s no surprise the mighty Murdock found a home with the Viper family, and these latest two tracks are yet another of a series of highlights 2020 has seen so far.

I create uplifting Norwegian techno music, driven by a passion for sharing my sound with the world. Born in 1982 near the Arctic Circle, I turned 42 the year I wrote this biography. My trademark style is all about expressing raw emotion—nothing is suppressed in my music; instead, it comes alive.

While my music may be complex and unique, its appeal is universal, and understanding it doesn't take a genius. My oldest tracks are rooted in projects I began when I was 18 to 23 years old. Back then, my focus was on crafting captivating melodies rather than sticking to basic dance rhythms.

The rhythmic component became a part of my work only 3-5 years ago, prompting me to revisit and reproduce my earlier tracks with the help of the riff machine. This tool has allowed me to transform some pieces into vibrant, colorful soundscapes. These tracks have since been improved countless times, and my growing confidence continues to fuel my belief in my work. That belief isn’t just an assumption—it’s a reality confirmed through dedication.

Currently, I’m diving into sequences, an exciting new element in my music. They’re fresh territory for me, and I’m committed to keeping them dynamic and engaging.
