About this mix:

This week I've decided to let the music do the talking. It's a 2 hour mix with no talking. Recorded in pitch black darkness, with only the glow of the CDJ's and the Serato screen on my laptop lighting the room. It was recorded in one take with no planning. Just playing where my mind takes me like any other radio show, but without the presenting part.

I've been feeling increasingly detached from the music industry in recent times. Working all hours trying to discover new music, tweeting and updating facebook pages to let people know about my findings and the releases they amount to on Terrorhythm eventually. Tirelessly ploughing through emails all day long. Trying and failing almost every week to make things happen and attempt to build something from the ground up again. With all this interaction and a mounting workload I am feeling increasingly solitary. I ask myself questions every day. Is this worth it anymore? Does anybody care? Do these statistics and numbers actually matter to me? All I'm seeing is statistics. Numbers. That's not why I got into this industry. 

There is a real and increasing reality that I might not be doing this for much longer. My relationship with music feels like being head over heels in love with somebody who doesn't even know you exist. I guess this is me putting my heart on the table right now, in hope that some good will come of it. Let's strip away the bullshit and be honest with eachother, it's unhealthy bottling everything up. 

It was like therapy recording this mix and I hope you enjoy it, particularly given the dark atmosphere throughout. This ultimately was something I had to do for myself, so if anyone else enjoys it or connects with me on it then that is a bonus. 

If you do enjoy it, please share it. This may only look like an additional statistic on the screen, but it opens the door of opportunity for me to do something substantial.

THE FLOOD For SSENSE

Patrick Conway keeps a low profile and wobbles through the alleyways. This is his first offering for the ESP Institute. Side A’s 'Know The Future' is properly moody, a UK rave track skirting the fringe of everything we hold dear from the days of our youth — big grey melancholy chords, mild shuffling breaks and anonymous diva cries peppered sparsely throughout — yet the artist manages to skillfully tick our nostalgia boxes whilst avoiding the road into full-blown pastiche. It's a versatile track, easily suitable for both the early hours in the warehouse or the tender drive home where your terrible Tuesday awaits. On the flip side, Patrick continues his plunge into emotional depths, summoning layers of ghostly sighs, chopping up the beats in half time and introducing a more prominent use of bass, but midway through 'Digital Warfare' he jettisons the angelic pleasantries in favor a more deranged headspace. He’s had us swallow the wrong pills, sending us through a labyrinth of mirrors and echoes for the second half of the track, only to partially find our footing in the last minute. These two songs will send you to another time and place.

Super Natural is a spell spun by the inner guides: sometimes they have your best interests in mind but other times....you're wanting it to go this way...

Jonnine’s songs swim in part-spoken, part-sung suspension, sophisticated wordplay amid languorous instruments and devotional invocations with allegorical weight. Imagined as a soundtrack to the surreal Venice-set feature film she and @Zebrablood (Blazer Sound System / Psychic 9-5 Club) are destined to one day make together, it is a testament to eight years of friendship and musical / visual collaboration. Super Natural has a chimeric quality – fleeting and, like any good thriller, pulsing with potential but paced with restraint (as Jonnine says, "it’s what you don’t see that keeps you imagining").

Jonnine’s first solitary offering carries the refinement of her work in the Australian band HTRK. With this EP, a creative block was overcome after years of being urged by her therapist to forge a solo musical identity. It began with a first attempt to play her brother’s broken stringed guitar, unused since 2001, and became these four songs. Written and recorded in Puerto Maldonado, Peru, Big Island, Hawaii and Dandenong Ranges, Australia

Starless and clandestine, the spoken-word delivery of “You’re Wanting It To Go This Way” is streaked with discordant guitar, tripped rhythm and sanguine, fluttering melodic ornament. A rapt rendering of self-sabotage, but patient and alluring, this introduction is reminiscent of Leslie Winer’s Witch.

“I Don’t Seem Myself Tonight” confesses ethereal harmonies with waveless vocals, earthy strums and keyboard sceneries (in Sceneries Not Songs likeness). A tribute to love at first sight as a little death. Subconscious gong in whale tones from Mona Ruijs (Sound Interventions).

The penultimate “You Can Leave The Vampires” is fettered by guitar from HTRK bandmate Nigel Yang against a moody, cautionary libretto. This collaboration yields ritualistic results as the object of the spell is appealed to break with an addictive game of chance by the overlapping mantras “If I can leave you / you can leave too” and “Please, you can be free”

The playful “Scorpio Rises Again” simmers with Audrey Horne cheek; bass guitar, finger clicks and a whistle from Conrad Standish (CS + Kreme) in beguiling denouement.

With stories unlocked by the interior dreaming of Super Natural, Jonnine and Nigel’s collaboration as HTRK opened up and new material (their 2019 album, Venus in Leo) sprang forth immediately after. The inner guides may delude when kept quiet: their expression is a way towards healing, even their most haunted song.

... With his record on @impressberlin released in autumn 2020 he lands a kind of little hype. In November than, Taupe made the debut on his own imprint "Colours".  His "Vested EP" is characterized by a timeless sound that always sounds a bit like the Detroit of years gone by.  His sound is on the one hand modern and trend-setting, and yet humble and extremely original at the same time.  It is very nice to hear that, will find out.  Listen!

... She is it, who is by our side with a load of bassy warmth this winter. With her series @tension_event (streams and parties) she represents the technoid-subcultural side of the designated cultural capital Chemnitz. There is still some time until 2025, but Isa alias TØSCHE does not want to lose any and is preparing as best as possible. We think this commitment is terrific, not at least because we know how it feels like shaping the music and club scene in a city suspended between the provinces and the big cities. We thank you for this and for this one-hour mix, dear Isa. Listen it!

After an excellent detour with Joram's neoclassical live performance, we return to electronical ambiences and atmospheres. Our last release, that was almost 4 months ago saw the first remix for Padre's "Golden Hour Trilogy" EP within Pablo Bolivar's Club Vision of "Roselight". We are tremendously delighted to have the man himself back at it again, delivering a patient and ambient mix, that almost inclusively features an array of music from his labels. The soundscapes not only capture the magic of his music direction, but paint a great picture of the music we love. Thank you for stepping by, Pablo!

No More Sleep w/ Pablo Bolivar

This mix is radically different from what I usually play, it's an insight to other aspects of my music style. Given the present situation o lockdown, I have decided to record a downtempo, ambient electronic mix. I believe this fits perfectly the current mood. In truth I originally created the mix as a personal journey, something that I don't do very often.
I have now decided to share it with you.
I hope it will keep you entertained at home.
