Beyer's new track "You're the Same" is six-and-a-half minutes of moody tones set to a slightly laid-back aesthetic. "I wanted to create a deep heavy ‘after hour-ish’ kind of tune but still with the Beyer weight to it," says Beyer. "Something I would play in the beginning of a night or when playing more deep...It's got a big fat vocoder in it which absolutely love; there should be more vocoders in dance music!"

This is a Neil Young cover. We wanted to give out some new music while we are finishing up our album. We thought a cover would be a good idea and since we both love Harvest Moon we decided to give it a try. It's super intimidating to cover Neil Young so we tried to make it a lot different, just so we didn't have to "compete" with the master.

EDX Kicks Off 2016 With New Deep House Anthem, "Missing"
 
After a tremendous 2015 that was punctuated with being named the #1 charting Beatport artist of the year over international heavyweights like Tiesto and Maceo Plex, EDX is kicking off 2016 on a high note with his first original of the year, “Missing” featuring Mingue, which is out now on Spotify, and due out on Beatport on February 12th via Spinnin’ Deep. 
On “Missing,” EDX tabs the up-and-coming songstress, Mingue, for a modern-day performance of Everything but the Girl’s record of the same name, while infusing the track with his signature deep house sound. The track opens with a curtain of shimmering piano melodies that is peeled back to reveal a chunky beat, catchy hook, and soft, thudding bass stabs that give “Missing” a deep groove. 

The Swiss-born producer / DJ was responsible for some of the biggest tracks of the year in 2015, including his original, “Belong,” his “Indian Summer” remix of Sam Feldt’s “Show Me Love,” which went on to become EDX’s most played track on SoundCloud with over 60 million streams, and his “Ibiza Sunrise” remix of Robin Schulz’s “Sugar,” that went on to receive gold and platinum certifications in various countries. Adam Beyer’s Drumcode juggernaut attracts more fans and critical plaudits with each passing year. Holding firm on its future facing ethos, techno’s number one label presents a new volume in its acclaimed A-Sides series with 20 prime tracks to signify its 20th anniversary. 

Such is the volume of quality music Adam Beyer receives throughout the course of the year, releasing all of it would be impossible. Enter the blue chip A-Sides series: a chance for the quality-obsessive label head to issue a collection of outstanding tracks that couldn’t fit in their regular EP release schedule. 

With an eye on future talent, as much as the label’s established roster of heavy-hitters, the compilation showcases the full breadth of Drumcode’s multifaceted techno sound, equal parts inspiring and functional.
 
Led by the stealth techno funk of ‘Nine of You’, Beyer’s deft collaboration with Mark Reeve, the compilation takes in exciting highlights from big guns such as Alan Fitzpatrick, Dustin Zahn, Bart Skils, Pleasurekraft, Luca Agnelli, Jay Lumen, Kaiserdisco and Gary Beck. 

The rich vein of form displayed by emerging techno talent is similarly given prime position. Rising DJ/producer Boxia makes his Drumcode debut, fresh from a well-received warm up set for the crew at the hugely successful Junction 2 festival in London, while the likes of Enrico Sangiuliano, Juan Sanchez, Ian O’Donovan and Timmo also drop fire, establishing their credentials as some of the most promising talent breaking through the ranks in 2016. 

Reinforcing the global scope of the label, artists such as The Junkies from Toronto and Layton Giordani from New York, prove techno is winning a place in the heart of the new generation of artists coming out of North America.

A work 12 months in the making, Adam Beyer continues his exciting series of collaborative EPs, teaming up with heavy-hitters Pig&Dan for an multi-faceted four-tracker.

Chances are up if you spied Adam Beyer in an airport departure lounge over the past 12 months, he’d have his head buried in his laptop, immersed in creating sound sketches. A long-time fan of collaborations, the Drumcode chief has been on an inspiring streak of form lately, teaming up with the likes of Mark Reeve, Dense & Pika and now Pig&Dan. The results have been compelling, to say the least. 

In trademark perfectionist Beyer style, the title track ‘Capsule’ – a shimmering slice of techno - involved “around 15 different versions” the track rigorously road tested by the Swede and featured in episodes of Drumcode Radio to test dancefloor reactions, before finally getting the sign off.  ‘In Love’ is a big room techno groover, driven by crisp drums and the kind of evocative vocal effect that’ll have hairs standing on ends. ‘Atmosfear’ is true to its name, centered on a menacing synth line and gritty percussion, its deep kicks and subterranean bass combining superbly to create a heady dancefloor brew. ‘We Are E’ is propelled by a catchy synth hook and a classic call-to-arms vocal, which tips its cap to the artists’ shared love of classic UK rave.

‘Glutes’ is peak-time material without being overly fast or chaotic, the energy instead coming from the transportive arrangement and emotive melodic content. The same can be said for Bäumel’s ‘Surge’ on Kompakt, an anthem in the sets of Tale Of Us last year which led to this release.

The title track rises and falls, surging with wide-sweeping synth notes and a steady rhythm to anchor the waves. An infectious refrain pulls you further in and, right on cue, the kick drum continues to beat the sweet spot. ‘Engage’ is filled with similarly subtle details, uplifting arpeggios and atmospheric reverb. Half-way through the melody bursts into life, shining brightly through the haze and creating one of those moments of release that make the Afterlife sound work so well on a dancefloor.

Korean-American artist Lawrence Lee has been carving a name for himself on dance floors internationally. Known for his unique twist on Techno, Acid and House music, he has recently released on DJ Haus' House Crime Records and fellow New York-Berlin artist P.Leone’s E-Missions, and more. Here though we see him mark his debut for Par-ka Records with the ‘BioDome’ EP which welcomes San Francisco’s Vin Sol on remix duties.
The original mix of ‘Biodome’ leads with crunchy breaks, heady arpeggios, gritty bass leads and rave-tinged strings to perfectly set the tone ahead of Vin Sol’s ‘Dome Inside A Dome Mix’ which opts for a more direct 4/4 rhythmic approach whilst stirring in the chopped snippets of the original’s melodies alongside menacing acid bass and distorted percussion.
The ‘Fuse (Tunnel Mix)’ opens the flip-side, a high-octane cut fuelled by a robust drum machine workout as murky bass swells, snaking strings and resonant synths wander throughout. The ‘Cell GT Mix’ then closes the package, laying more focus on the rhythmic elements as the billowing synths and airy strings subtly meander within

If you’ve caught a set from Adam Beyer recently, chances are you remember this track causing mayhem. ‘Your Mind’ is a banging new collaboration with Dutch talent Bart Skils, and it absolutely caught the attention of his Timewarp, Awakenings and Ultra set audiences with its haunting chorus chant. 

'Your Mind' is released via Drumcode on June 18.

It doesn’t get much bigger than this: Adam Beyer links up with Green Velvet and Drumcode’s outstanding rising star Layton Giordani for a debut collaboration.

Some musical partnerships feel fated. Both fans of one another’s work, for years Adam Beyer and Green Velvet had discussed writing music together. In turn, Beyer’s protégé Layton Giordani had admired the Chicagoan’s work for as long as he could remember. When the 25-year-old found himself playing alongside the green mohawked legend at Belfast’s Shine, the spark and subsequent friendship was immediate. With the links now set in place, it was only a matter of time before the trio’s creative chemistry would manifest musically.

‘Space Date’ was conceived organically and birthed quickly. Propelled by Green Velvet’s trademark vocal hypnotism, the triumvirate combine to craft a pumping intergalactic slice of techno laced in melody that’s highlighted sets by Beyer at Awakenings, Ushuaia and also EDC Vegas when Green Velvet dropped it to a raucous response. The track is complimented by ‘Rome Future’, the product of a year-long series of productions between Beyer and Giordani. Deftly combining crisp drum work, catchy vocal effects and a powerful bassline melody that gives the track an almighty kick, it will be familiar to many who’ve followed their sets over recent months.

In steps, Par Avion into the fabled FH Unsigned series. A safe haven of sonic warmth; for one to enter, listen to a fucking belter, then placidly leave. 'Not Everyone Loves' ensures the feng shui of the series remains in tact, delivering, yes another 'belter' - although, a belter flaunting esteem and class - attributes one can only assume the mysterious Par himself exudes. 

This cut is one that further reminds you that 'putting things in boxes' has no place in 2018 and beyond. Things are no longer as binary as 'yes' or 'no' - if something has two legs, does it mean it's a pair of jeans? If an amusement park on the shore is empty, does it mean it's haunted? If a track flaunts crunchy percussion and a shed load of saturation, does it mean it's Lofi? Babble aside, Par Avion delivers a track of real quality, demonstrating clear production prowess.
