Scum of the Earth

I wrote this song because I wanted to capture the feeling of slowly drifting away from who you used to be, especially after going through something that changes you deep inside. It’s about the quiet, creeping darkness that settles in when you stop fighting your inner demons and start living with them. The moth symbolizes fragility and transformation—when it dies, it marks the end of something soft and vulnerable. This song is my way of expressing that shift, not with fear, but with acceptance.

When the Moth Dies

Snow came down like a deacon's dick
Flat Rock froze ‘til the swamp got slick
The roads were shut, the grits went stiff
Assless chaps with a bare midriff

Ain’t no seat, just leather straps
Saw a grandpa shoveling snow in chaps

Bare ass weather in the Bible Belt
Where the wind cuts low and shame don’t melt
Every man from the preacher to the feedlot boys
Struts their cheeks with impeccable poise

He was a koala with a green card grin
From a land where the trees got drunk on gin
She was a hagfish, soft as slime
Slipped through hearts like a preacher mime

They met by the Texaco chicken bin
Snow piled high on her oxygen skin

Assless chaps in a Baptist town
Where boots stay up and drawers fall down
Koala held her in the Waffle booth
Said, I never knew sludge could speak the truth

Beanstalk snapped in the feed corn sleet
They made love by the propane heat
He wore flannel with a heart-shaped hole
She said, baby I’m yours, gelatin and soul

They danced in chaps through the Piggly aisle
She left a trail that stretched a mile

Assless chaps in a Southern freeze
Where the breeze gets fresh with your tess tees
Koala wept on a bait bucket seat
Said, this ain’t wrong, it’s just off beat

Four winds howl through a church bell crack
A possum bouncer tried to bring them back
But she slid through cracks he couldn’t reach
While he climbed off stage in cut-out breech

She kissed his nose near the bait shop drain
Said, don’t let pants define your pain

Assless chaps in the frozen mines
Where love walks raw in exposed behinds
They drove away in a snow-slick Ford
Two hearts in leather, un-ignored
