From shallow reeds they lift at dawn
Their wings like blades, the flock is drawn
Across the steppe, the air runs thin
They do not circle, they only begin

They follow a course that no stars betray
A crimson horizon pulls them away

The flight of the flamingos, long and high
Through the borderless currents of the sky
Silent wings where the dark winds grow
To the fields where the heavy chimneys glow

They leave behind the salted brine
The river’s edge, the crooked line
Through forests black, through iron haze
They do not wander, they do not graze

No feather breaks from the scarlet stream
They fly with a single, sharpened dream

The flight of the flamingos, burning red
Through the whisper of clouds where the cold winds spread
No sound of song, no cry below
Only sparks where the heavy chimneys glow

Over the border, night is near
The air grows thick, the path is clear
They do not falter, they do not veer
Their beaks are pointed north of here

Through distance wide, their purpose stays
A line of fire through iron greys

The flight of the flamingos, sharp and true
Over forests of steel and rivers blue
Silent arcs where the cinders flow
To the gates where the heavy chimneys glow

Their path is written, their wings don’t sway
They follow the dark until night turns day
