On The Road (It Ain't Easy)

My album Bird Strings was created to be played with the songs in sequence, so some of them fade into others. AFib parts 1 and 2 were one piece of music for which we created 2 index points on the CD. This was so people could play one section or the other if they so desired. Thanks for listening!

Wintered Over

This is the first of a series of pieces I am creating that are centered around a Rhodes piano. This will be for my first solo album entitled Colorful Language.

The point of view for this Rhodes sound came from sticking my iphone on top of the piano when I was improvising on a friend's Rhodes in N.C. The phone picked up mostly the sound of the hammers hitting the tines. I liked that sound so much that, when I started recording this piece, I miked the Rhodes with the lid off and the speaker volume just barely on. The speaker's role is almost just to add its inherent hiss haha. I bought this Rhodes earlier this year and it needed a bit of repair and tuning. The tuning isn't perfect, but I kinda dig that. I spent a good bit of time poking around inside the piano, learning how it worked, and living with its mechanisms for a good while while fixing little issues. This may have been the influence to give this piece a "construct/destruct," "build and rebuild" kind of feeling. I often create from a very mental image point of view and that's what was lingering in my mind during production. Well, there's all that if anyone cares to know. This piece is nearly done (!). I just need to remove a couple of edit clicks, sit on it for a bit, and see if I need to add or take away any stuff :-) It has not yet been properly mastered. Video coming SOON!
 
I am also working on some big, bombastic horn/string pieces with huge beats that I'm excited to share soon. Thank you for listening.

So tired of being honest, but if I’m honest with myself, I was in charge of a revolution but fuck I chose myself instead. now I sing along to no one, better than talking to myself about my past and present tensions or counting down those glory days...and I’m fine with it. So sick of the emotion, can we have silence for a bit? (hell. no.) I know it’s hard just to be human but I embrace what I can’t change. like the time I prayed for my son in the first church I could find, St. Ignatius are you listening? it was hell but we’re alright. and I’m fine with it. back when it was “me before” everyone. You had a way of getting in the way. I know you could have been with anyone. you're a saint because you stayed. ("don't screw it up"). nothing is perfect, nothing will ever be. All of my mistakes they lead me to you and our house in the suburbs, 2 kids, a 9-5.
