Delicious Vinyl brings you Sunset Blvd, the new album from Yancey Boys, the group piloted by John “Illa J” Yancey and Frank Nitt. The dynamic new collection is built around previously unheard tracks created by Illa J’s brother: the late, great J Dilla (James Yancey). With Frank Nitt’s standing as J Dilla Music Catalog Curator and the official approval of Yancey Media Group, all productions on Sunset Blvd originate from The Lost Scrolls — the stunning cache of beats Dilla left behind.

With its rapturous single “Quicksand” featuring Common, Sunset Blvd also teams Yancey Boys with De La Soul’s Posdnuos (“Beautiful”), The Pharcyde’s SlimKid3 (“Rock My World”), and T3 of Slum Village (“Jeep Volume”), making it clear that the Dilla legacy is being represented by those who knew and collaborated with Dilla in his lifetime. Additional guests on Sunset Blvd include DJs Rhettmatic, C-Minus, and JRocc (Beat Junkies) as well as rap roughneck Guilty Simpson and R&B strongman Eric Roberson. “We’ve created an album that would make Dilla proud,” says Frank Nitt, who grew up with Dilla in Detroit. “But this isn’t a nostalgia trip: Dilla’s beats were so future-forward that they’re right on time in 2013, and we’ve assembled the best artists possible to represent that.”

'Stand Still' features an extended cast of ‘friends’ including the vocals of close friend Micky Green, the highly respected Sydney-born-Paris-based pop singer whose sweeping melodies add bubblegum sweetness to an otherwise high-tempo single. The final mix also comes courtesy of James David, one half of mysterious UK duo Snakehips. Old friends of Micky’s, Jimmy and Hugo have also chosen to work with another familiar face for the official music video in Director Dave Ma, the creative force behind the ARIA 2013 nominated clip for much lauded single 'Clair De Lune'.

‘Stand Still’ will be available with three incredible remixes, featuring Sydney’s Wave Racer, Future Classic alumni (and Lithuania’s Producer of the Year) Mario Basanov, and New York’s Com Truise, who brings his synth-heavy sounds to the table.

Hot on the tail of two prior releases by Tapirus aka Rotterdam’s own Charlton, the MNSX series presents its 3rd instalment with none other than young John Heckle from Merseyside, UK with a remix by Tapirus.

Three incredible tracks from John Heckle make up this blistering hyperactive EP. Raw, acidy landscapes and analog drum programming are the trademarks of this artist and he displays his mastery in full force. Together with Tapirus, the result is a meeting of minds; an energetically harmonious release in similar spirit.

The title track ‘Wet Noises’ takes us full throttle into Heckle’s domain. Upfront drumming, acid bassline and soaring synths mix and melt in a dancing cosmic soup. Tinkling notes add signposts throughout the oceanic chaos, before the song reaches its ultimate arrival on shore.

‘Alpha Deux’’s beginning and deceptive ambient soundscape unfolds deliciously, evolving organically into a full blown Chicago acid workout. Let it reverse and play on for a secret easter egg ending!

On the B-side, Tapirus takes ‘Wet Noises’ to his territory on just as rough terrain. An acid bounce start slowly snakes its way into higher Asiatic ground with a hand of the mystical. Less of a remix in the traditional sense but an equally honourable version.

A special treat is reserved for last. B2’s ‘Frozen Planet’ is an evocative piece anchored by a broken beat and deep bassline. Brought alive by helter-skelter notes and wrapped up in soaring, mountain-high synth lines, it is a bright asteroid in the galaxy of John Heckle’s discography for us.

Nel 1990 la Bolognese Irma Records pubblica 'House Of Calypso' dei Key Tronics Ensemble, al secolo Cesare Collina, Francesco Montefiori e Umbi Damiani. Un brano destinato a diventare un classico intramontabile nonchè fonte di ispirazione per generazioni di djs sedotti dal magico riff di piano. Ancora oggi 'House Of Calypso' rappresenta un fulgido esempio della potenza e freschezza del messaggio House che da Chicago attraversando l'oceano ha invaso tutti i continenti e prodotto epigoni instancabili di un suono resistente a mode e tendenze. Per anni la tentazione di creare nuovi mix è stata tenuta a bada dalla mancanza delle parti originali del brano e dalla indiscutibile arditezza del compito. Juno Records nel 1997, in occasione della celebrazione dei suoi primi 10 anni di attività, aveva proposto una splendida edizione di 'House Of Calypso' rinnovandone il fasto grazie ad un eccellente lavoro di remastering e arricchendola con i remixes di Julian Jabre e Pearn & Bridges. Oggi, a più di 20 anni di distanza dalla seminale uscita originale, la Irma Records pubblica le reinterpretazioni del classico dei Key Tronics Ensemble ad opera di due protagonisti della prima ora nella club culture italiana: Ivan Iacobucci, indiscutibilmente tra gli storici djs della nostra penisola e i Sicania Soul, team poliedrico e ispirato, già autori di produzioni di primo piano nel vasto catalogo della Irma. Il mix di Ivan Iacobucci è caratterizzato da un restyling dell' impianto ritmico, decisamente più dinamico e dal bpm più spinto, sul quale viene lasciato ampio spazio all' irrinunciabile motivo del piano che galleggia tra gli angelici strings. I Sicania Soul presentano due differenti versioni entrambe fedeli alle atmosfere originali del brano pur con notevoli novità strutturali: nell' Introspective mix l'epica del riff principale trova naturale continuità nel synth brass che richiama vagamente un altro grande classico ('Equinox' dei Code 718) mentre basso e ritmica accompagnano l'arrangiamento lineare. Nella reprise l'inserto delle congas e l'azzeramento del beat enfatizza il messaggio di 'House Of Calypso', la melodia ha il sopravvento e non c'è spazio per fronzoli narrativi. Un tool per i djs creativi, un momento di pura sospensione per i visionari del dancefloor. Il risultato complessivo di questa uscita ci restituisce una 'House Of Calypso' che trasuda passione ad ogni nota, la notevole espressione impressa dagli autori originali vive ancora e suona come un monito profetico da cui chiunque può trarre ispirazione.

Even today, 'House Of Calypso' is a shining example of the power and freshness of the House music message which, from Chicago across the ocean, has invaded every continent and produced relentless epigones. For years, the temptation to create new mix was retained by the lack of original parts of the song and the undeniable audacity of the task. Juno Records in 1997, in celebration of its 10 years, had proposed a splendid edition of 'House Of Calypso' renewing the splendor thanks to an excellent job of remastering and enriching it with remixes by Julian Jabre and Pearn & Bridges. Today, more than 20 years after the seminal original mix, Irma Records released a reinterpretations of Key Tronics Ensemble's classic by two protagonists of the first hour in the Italian club culture: Ivan Iacobucci, unquestionably one of  the historical djs in the peninsula, and Sicania Soul, versatile and inspired team, already creators of some of the leading productions into the vast catalog of Irma Records. Ivan Iacobucci's mix is characterized by a renovation of the groove, more dynamic and faster, on which is left wide space to the essential piano riff which floats between the angelic strings. Sicania Soul presents two different versions both faithful to the original atmosphere of the song but with significant structural novelties: in the 'Introspective mix' the epic of the main riff find a natural continuity in the synth brass vaguely reminiscent of another great classic ('Equinox 'Code of 718). In the reprise mix the insert of the congas and the reset of beats emphasizes the message of 'House Of Calypso', the melody takes over and there is no room for frills narrative. A tool for creative DJs, a moment of pure suspension for the visionaries of the dancefloor. The overall result gives us a 'House Of Calypso' that oozes passion in every note, the significant expression imprinted by the original authors still lives and plays like a prophetic warning from which everyone can draw inspiration.
