From the banks of the Volga, "Arepo" rises from a fortified citadel as Anton MAKe forges another powerful construct from the Sator Square. A rhythmic cadence rolls effortlessly forward as a bassline sits below in symmetrical beauty. Melodic splendour ripples concurrently in hypnotic parallel and a heavy beat anchors the symphony of sound. A returning Dutch master orchestrates a new masterpiece redolent in aural textures and opulent sonic palette. Glistening patterns swirl and coalesce around Roger Martinez's vivid synth lines, pitching and bending against a harmonious chord sequence in delicate layers of tonality.

Along Lake Ontario's north western shoreline, a new edifice rises from Dowden's distinctive sonic architecture. Muted tones provide a mirror image of "Arepo"; a bouncing bassline creates easy familiarity while a new groove creates the framework for new artistry to flourish. A South American star creates an arpeggiated backdrop with palindromic majesty where John Cosani reinvents "Arepo". No Silence: In this track Mollono.Bass fills the aural space around the voice of singer Kuoko as if his groove was a liquid that flows around the contours of a mould. The Super Flu remix works just the other way around. First, the duo initiates a pulsating force field of bass and enigmatic hints of melody. The voice of Kuoko creates only fine ripples on the surface of the time-space-continuum, before it breaks through around the middle. Stephan Zovsky's remix of Your Smile draws a wonderful contrast to this deeply hypnotic atmosphere. As a close friend of Mollono.Bass he has a deep understanding of the melodic soul of the original, which enables him to translate this soul into his very own style in an extremely elegant way. Driven by open hi hats and the bite of the snare we're hurled into a bouncing state of collective euphoria where the corners of our mouths and our arms are pulled upwards by some sort of magnetic force.

July 2020 saw Meanwhile’s third release feature Dutch icon, Roger Martinez with a three-track EP that was a soothing tonic for troubled times. Now returning to “Cosmic” a trio of remixes come from Jamie Stevens, Paul Deep and label head-honchos, GMJ & Matter.

An Australian legend with ARIAS to his name and a host of production credits for the likes of Bedrock, All Day I Dream and Replug, Jamie Stevens makes his Meanwhile debut with a typically impressive reworking of “Cosmic Drum”. Finding a new rhythmic path with trademark ingenuity and craftsmanship, a laid-back groove paves the way for a heavily effected and pulsating lead melody to wend its way across the eight-minute track. Making innovative use of Martinez’s original components, Stevens has created an elegant reworking that builds through rich harmonic layers transforming the original into a dynamic and highly original new remix.

Born and raised in the sprawling Buenos Aries metropolis, Paul Deep has spent his entire teenage years and adult life immersed in the underground dance scene. An accomplished DJ with a penchant for deep and progressive house with a splash of techno thrown in for good measure, his original music for Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden and Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat, sit neatly alongside remixes for Beat Boutique, MNL and Mango Alley. Another Meanwhile debutant, Paul Deep retains the rich rhythmic collage of “Cosmic Drum” as the familiar melodies from Martinez’s track also waft across proceedings, coated in reverb and filtered tape delays. Evolving into a new textured groove of the Argentinean’s making in the second half, a glorious array of gated sounds add new sonic character to a seething, hypnotic remix, full of South American flavour.

Continuing their assault on the underground dance industry through solo and collaborative guises and a plethora of timeless progressive house anthems, GMJ & Matter once again return to their label to provide another high-calibre offering. Remixing “80s” the Australian duo create a trademark club-friendly rhythm that provides the perfect framework for a glorious array of sonic textures and soundscapes that emerge out of Roger Martinez’s original components. The distinctive meandering lead line of the original ripples across the ten-minute piece before a rasping new bassline and spine-tingling synth lead spring to life at the breakdown. Continuing into the third movement with ease, the combination of freeform melody and hypnotic rhythmic backdrop create the perfect match for an ingenious remix that sees GMJ & Matter extend their production repertoire with an easy skill.
