PREMIERE: Bascha - Allayl [Lett]

This release by Kontinum and Eulogy is a return to the origin of the label Proselytizing. The first release Sektarian I enjoyed some attention back then. Will this become a series?
Nevertheless, this release experiences a significant increase in quality and tripping possibilities for the listener.
It goes forward with a faster pace through thunderstorm-like sculptural landscapes that seem endlessly interesting, continuously modulate further. Boiling, crackling energetic sound are heard.
Cognitive Corrison begins intro-like with light fades of the individual elements and dissolves the resulting restlessness through targeted percussive lead sounds in pure danceability. Neuro Enhancer lives up to its name and pushes with psytrance-like bass layering properly ! The modulation of the main sound is reminiscent of the boiling of a boiler that is about to explode, the arc of tension is held endlessly marching.
The track Avalanche pushes the feet by deep fast rolling broken 4/4 rhythm and lets the listener glide through the combination of DC-dubbing and angelic choirs. With Freeze, the listener is literally put into shock rigidity by the targeted use of filter modulation and the percussive elements dissolve the tension.
The rhythm of the tracks is the usual deep, the influence of the larger mixing monitors and the love for the 21-inch membrane Kirsch Audio subwoofers can be heard clearly, here the two have spent a lot of time in the past 3 years since the last release.

I recorded this one as I prepared to head over to the beautiful island and have an amazing time with my brother Nelson Reis and his wife Jelena (Ibiza PlaybAbout), they gave me the opportunity of performing at Ibiza Jet Apartments and Rio Ibiza, for which I am deeply grateful. Multi instrumentalist and deep house master producer Lars Bartkuhn returns to Alex Bradleys Utopia Records, a label whose ambition is to find harmony and balance through sound, design and experience. Fusing organic sounds with electronic soundscapes Bartkuhn’s 10-minute pathway to the African plains does exactly that, An ode to the ’Massai’ takes the listener and dancer on a journey of real depth and positive spirit. With it’s musicality (Bartkuhn on bass, drums, guitar, vocals, piano and synthesizer) complex arrangement and phrasing, ‘Massai' is a timeless and personal statement from Bartkuhn as he seeks the essence of what dance music in 2017 could be, a movement away from relative beats and to a more advance and spiritual sound that has been a mainstay in his compositions.
 
Garnering support from the likes of Hunee, MCDE, Ron Trent, Jeremy Underground Paris, Volcov, Bicep and a host of taste makers, Bartkuhn's back on the European music scene after years away in Brazil working on Jazz compositions which only saw the light of day in Japan. Having already lit up Berlin's Panorama Bar for Tamo Sumo and Lakuti with his inspiring live show (that features him on Guitar, vocals, synthesizer and drums) Bartkuhn is set to tour Europe in 2017 with his music more relevant on dance-floors than ever.

Transcendental Movements Vol. 1 marks the beginning of a new full-length ambient series, curated by IDO founder Valentino Mora. 

Since the age of 14, Mora has been searching for alternative tools to relieve anxiety. In 2016, he discovered the music of Marow and Olaf Tonstein and found that through listening to this particular music he was able to access a new state of meditation. This began the journey of researching the technique he calls ‘active mediation’.  

When he discovered that a lot of Marow and Olaf Tonstein’s music from 2009 had never been released on vinyl, he knew he needed to release it one day. In their work, Mora identified a feeling pertinent to the concept of the label, one that exemplified the connection between minimal/ambient/glitch and IDO’s ambient house sound.

From there he reached out to other artists that he felt could relate to this idea, and asked them to contribute a track in response to the concept.  The resulting compilation varies in tempo and technique, illustrating each artist’s idiosyncrasies, yet as a whole it forms a cohesive and potent statement.

Active meditation differs from regular stationary meditation through the focusing of one’s attention on sound whilst in motion — the form this motion takes is personal. The goal of active meditation is to transcend one’s awareness of motion — in fact, the awareness of being in a body — and to become absorbed entirely in the sound. Mora found that this process has the potential to ease anxiety as all conscious thought is alleviated through concentrated focus on music. 

For the cover artwork, Mora selected a painting from visual artist Raphael Lecoquierre, in which the movement, airiness and minimalism elicits a profound sense of calm. Mora also invited writer and artist, Lou Drago, to interpret the concept in words. Their text, Suspending Reality, features on the inside of the gatefold cover.

Bill Bass aka Mechanist is an artist/producer/remixer and owner of the Intersum label based in Southampton, England. 
In his almost 15 year journey he has covered many styles of electronic music all bound together by minimalism, atmospheric textures and deep, personal and emotional harmonies. 

During this time he has released with labels such as Silent Season, NFEREE, Space Textures and Circular Limited - and continued to develop his idiosyncratic style that draws inspiration from a myriad of styles and ideas. 

In 2024, taking a step away from the Mechanist project and Intersum label he plans to embark on a new journey under the name Exesti.
