Less than one year after his 2019 release entitled ‘Trans Asia Express’, DVS NME returns with a collection of original tracks that were produced between 2018-2020. This 30-track album is a not-so-subtle nod to the Electro inspirations that have helped to influence the DVS NME sound that has developed over the course of the last 20 years. The most obvious influence is that of Detroit pioneers Drexciya and subsequent projects by Gerald Donald. The album pays homage to Dopplereffekt’s 1999 album ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’ in both its title and cover art. The release ranges from brooding, downtempo machine funk all the way to dancefloor-oriented melodic Electro. The album relies heavily on the sounds of classic Electro machines like Mono/Poly, MS-20, SH-101, Jupiter-8, Juno-106, JX-3P, TB-303, Polysix, TR-606, OB-8, TR-808, ARP Odyssey, and TR-909. DVS NME is the man behind the weekly radio show/daily blog called 'Dark Science Electro' and has been a dedicated contributor for the Electro community for the last 10 years. He shares his love of Electro music by posting Electro-affiliated news, art, mixes, albums, memes, concerts, tracks, gear and more. The latest release from Turbo Recordings features the rarest of all techno label occurrences: a good story. An Austrian producer with releases on Kneaded Pains and Nervous, Dubesque met NYC legend Amanda Lepore at the Life Ball years ago, when he used to serve as the VIP area host. Her manager asked him to produce an EP to accompany her memoirs (Doll Parts), and he went on to also write songs for her “Bartschland Follies” show at the McKittrick Hotel. See? Real people with interesting lives. Not a single dude with a laptop providing his alternate score for Inception in sight. 

Years passed, and Dubesque was struck by an idea. Create a techno track featuring Lepore’s vocals. This led to a collaboration with Brooklyn indie A&R Peace Bisquit and electro pop singer/songwriter Ayer which gave birth to “Queen”, featuring the world’s most famous transsexual. 

Here’s where things get really f’n fascinating, because the result - “Queen” - won the hearts of all two Turbo Recordings employees, who decided to give the track the largest platform imaginable to them. Please request the Radio Mix when calling your local sports talk station to demand airplay, and play the instrumental version when loudly regaling your friends with the tale of its creation. The EP is rounded out by two more excellent examples of Dubesque’s stellar techno craft: the title track and “BRB,” which we’re told is how teenagers abbreviate “Ballroom Blitz” from the Wayne’s World soundtrack online.

For their landmark 10th release, Hard Fist is proud to have snapped up multi-talented Belgian producer and performer Strapontin for a new single including Damon Jee and Thomass Jackson remixes and a complementary & prescient video game that pokes fun at social media. The specially designed game and accompanying music video pertains to the overall theme of the EP, which shows an absurd society obsessed with social media descending into a dystopian world. It is a paranoid graphic vision, set in Brussels, Strapontin’s hometown, that puts you in control of a role playing game as you march round the city collecting social points with scant regard for others. Besides being a dancer, performer and on-and-off "Madame pipi", French-born, Brussels-based Strapontin is also a DJ and producer who mixes up slow and rough techno with thrilling soundtracks and groove driven disco. He has released on Nein and I'm Single amongst others and marks this 10th Hard Fist release in fine style.
Our choice here is opening track - 'Nervous Days', a gallivanting techno-disco groove with rugged loops and jumbled percussion that sounds like a rampage through a cityscape, as per the video.
This is a fittingly brilliant EP from the vital Strapontin on ever-excellent Hard Fist.

Produced during a residency in Shanghai in summer 2019, the Anshan EP by Berlin based duo crouds deviates from their previous releases and improvised livesets. The four tracks feature intricate rythmic patterns, forward pushing shifting drumgrooves and gritty sound design. Drawing inspiration from their immediate surroundings, their experience gained from playing livesets and a deliberately chosen set of tools, crouds crafted a concept EP to leave a unique mark.
Anshan is a place in our memory perceived so long ago, we are not quite sure ourselves if it ever existed the way we remember it. Led by nostalgia, inspired by a lost feeling. We did not find what we came here for so we started crafting to fill the void. Freed by restrictions, some of which we chose ourselves and others imposed on us by foreign powers. The result is a new place to withdraw our minds to. Soon to be coated by doubts of its existence again.
The EP includes three remixes by Berlin-based artists. JakoJako presents a fast-paced interpretation of You Talk The Talk. The track Overhowl gets revisited by Alternativ3 with a leftfield-oriented version, and by Sacha Ketterlin, who puts his dancefloor stamp on it.
