There are times in our lives when we yearn for simplicity; when things seem to overwhelm. After [and continuing] ill-health and hospitals, I have felt this need for simplicity, especially after not being able to play the piano for some time, my love and therapy.

I missed it so much; being here; listening to you all, and creating. ……and once again, some dear friends, Milco (The Flute Whisperer) https://soundcloud.com/milco-huisman…. Erik (Melotone) https://soundcloud.com/kiresivat ..  and The Subwave Network, UK https://soundcloud.com/the-subwave-network….. gave me so much, with encouragement and motivation. 

Thus, I woke in the middle of the night, with no ideas, just a need to get to my piano and try to get my feelings out 

It is a simple piece to reflect that need and yearning for simplicity, and which is reflected in the title. I felt sorrow, yet soothed.

I needed to do this, not only for myself, but also for some close friends undergoing some difficulties, and others too, who desire a moment of simplicity in their lives; to forget for awhile the burdens we all experience from time to time.

Please excuse any errors, being an improvisation, and I am hoping to get strong enough to be back online more often than I have recently.

I have missed so many of you and your music so much xx

Once Upon A December Piano Arrangement

An urgency, an intimate explosion. The new single by Laura Masotto was inspired by the recent climatic situation giving voice to one of the most direct, essential truths: Our House is on Fire.

Our house burns, like our certainties. Her violin translates both the human sentiment in front of danger and the danger itself, the threat. From fragility to vehemence, from fear to resistance, from fight to oppression: all these feelings interwoven creating a DNA of our times. These sensations condense into an almost mystical vortex, built thanks to a crescendo pattern that intersects the strong solidity of the violin. Like a human being trapped in the vortex of a larger entity, of an unstoppable force.

The electronic sounds, which are direct effects of the distorted violin, surround the sonorities of the instrument, they merge, as an opposite output deriving from the same source. An overwhelming duality that touches the human being in his intimate essence.

The track evolves trough two opposing forces that seem to fight: the violin grows, explodes, as in a form of resistance, and it contrasts the electronic dissonances, arising from the instrument itself: it is a vertical ascent, which follows the delicate sense of balance that is formed between all things, in harmony. The track is in fact a unique track, a hypnosis, a fire: it stands out in the silence like a tremendous and romantic incipit, which opens to the experimental future of a violinist able to treat her instrument with courage and talent.

 

‘This track came as a sort of epiphany. I have been very inspired by the incredible strength of Greta Thunberg and the power of her resistance. I see in this young woman the realisation of a solid resistance, the blossoming of a new hope. But despite the deeply moving feelings this new movement’s triggered in me, I couldn’t separate the fact that this is happening because we are already living in dark, critical times. It is already happening. This created a sort of duality in my mind, in which both light and dark are fighting each other, in a sort of perpetual motion. I wanted it out, as a statement on its own.’ - Laura Masotto

 I love the SC community, because it is a 'community', with the many styles of music and the inspirations and encouragement I find here for all! 

After discovering SC and hearing so much talent - I wanted to join in, but so much to learn!   I was a classically trained pianist when a youngster (now a tad rusty), who has restarted a musical journey, originally in learning the field of electronic music, and exploring piano improvisations and compositions.  However, most of my latest works have been piano-based, and am hoping to once again, learn some more electronic and even combine the two; piano and electronic ... But then again, I keep returning to the piano! hehe :)

- still exploring and not feeling bound by any rules!

A Mini Biography: Music has been a part of my life since a young child (my whole family is musical, though of different styles, with my step-father's fantastic rock-band and analog synths, bass and acoustic guitar, my mother's gorgeous Irish folk-band, autoharp and dulcimer, my brother's beautiful self-taught guitar, and my Dad's famous banjo playing) :)   

At a young age of about 5, I attempted composing my own piano works whilst begging my mother for piano lessons; and after about a year, my wish became reality and I trained for the AMEB (Australian Musical Examination Board) exams. I eventually started performing live, with amateur tours around the country area for a singing group and for theatre groups (though that was a long time ago now!). 

But eventually, I headed down a different path in academia, in getting my Bachelors degree, Masters degree and a PhD.

Now I have a chance to find this dream again, slowly but surely, as long as its fun. I also find it very therapeutic, as music can often express so much more than words can. It is a journey where time seems to have no meaning. This is a 'musical diary' of sorts, as I struggle through a difficult time in life health-wise, ... my escape .... music :-)

So, I would love it if you would follow me on this 'journey' because any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated :)

Of course, I am also here as a Fan, and would love to find more people to listen to! There are so many wonderful, talented, and often undiscovered musicians up here, and I cannot get enough of your music! I have very eclectic tastes in music. 

My apologies too if there is ever a delay in my replies, as I can't always be here, but will try to get back to you and comments, I appreciate them so much. Hoping to find all my friends, and new ones too! ;-)

If you like relaxing music or contemporary classical music, you're definitely in the right place, especially if you want to discover exciting new artists along with the more established ones! So, if you've liked one of my playlists, check out the rest or you might be missing out on some real gems! (I get no benefit from doing these, other than the joy of connecting people to good music!) As well as contemporary classical, I also have a few other relaxing playlists (ambient, jazz, chillout...), all with no words. 
After getting severe myalgic encepalopathy I found I have to rest a lot and at first it was very boring and frustrating but then I got into Soundcloud! I've come across so many wonderful composers and musicians on here and have developed a love of contemporary classical music. I make relaxing playlists... I started out just for myself but it's always great if someone else enjoys them too! I always try to support artists by choosing their tracks instead of versions posted by fans/others, and I enjoy making my playlists diverse, including all the brilliant female and international composers out there etc (which seem to be lacking in a lot of playlists and auto-play, and which is a great shame as there's so much talent out there!)
Most days I repost my favorite track that I've heard that day from one of my playlists.
The artwork used for playlists all belongs to me and was done by myself or my dad.
