As we move towards the closing stages of 2020, the newly-founded but always-impressive Identity Records imprint continues to up the pace after a series of well-curated, in-depth releases. With their releases currently available on a free download basis, Identity have moved from strength to strength under the steady, innovative guidance and keen ear of label boss DIS:TURBED, and that highkey trend is highlighted yet again here.

Continuing to draw from their impressive roster of artists that includes the likes of Recon, Katon, Dubruvvas, Headroom, Medusa, Half Cab, Hickupz, Rezin and more, ‘The Third Kind’ VA EP lines up the hammer from some familiar faces, plus some new ones too; it’s the perfect balance, and a balance we’ve become accustomed to from an imprint that’s cementing itself as a key platform for the very best in new talent. This time, Identity draw for the minimal, industrial production talents of label stalwarts Recon and Katon, whilst Lisbon-based talent Resslek appears alongside DIS:TURBED & Array, with the latter pairing revisiting one of their previous cuts, giving it the good ol’ VIP treatment.

It’s all go from the start, another common theme of Identity licks; they’re really forming a slick, well-oiled substance here, whilst building a sick audience alongside and achieving some mammoth numbers, and that’s taking in both streams and downloads - expect to hear a metric tonne of Identity releases when we’re back in the clubs. Katon kicks off the EP in fine style with the mesmerically minimal ‘Body Flicka’, which balances dastardly, evil clicks & whistles with that pinpoint, submerged sound that the Identity family have made their own - this one’s already receiving some huge support from across the scene. Recon is up next with ‘Excuses’, again staking his claim and evidencing why he’s perhaps the next big thing in the minimal genre; this low-slung cut delivers on every level, with its main body writhing and galloping into the depths, never once fading out of site. Making his debut on Identity, Resslek supplies the indomitable ‘PAT’, yet another impressive outing following superlative releases across Parallel Depth, Boey Audio, Citate Forms and more.

Finally, DIS:TURBED & Array have blessed us with a VIP of ‘Primitive Instinct’, which dropped to heavy support on MadWorld Records back at the start of August. Whereas the original’s bassline had a signature bass-etched flutter throughout, the VIP reels this back slightly in favour of a deeper, more enhanced sub that pummels and headbutts with ease, teasing and flitting between the flutter and wobble of the OG cut. There’s no completely wholesale changes on show, but just enough has changed to make this an insta-cop for any likeminded Drum & Bass head. This is where the best VIP’s lie and ultimately find their place in the hearts, heads and sets of the best selectors around.

Solace and Jabaru are quickly becoming ones to watch. Last seen on Dispatch Limited in 2019, the pair are back with an impressive two track release.

Working internationally, the Belgian and Portuguese producers began each track individually, sending a work in progress to the other to complete and combine styles.

MC Kenna joins the pair, adding the final unique touch to the driving “Premonition”, and the exceptionally named “Titles Are Overrated” is a tense, building, progressive stepper that hits differently in just the right way.

Subdue, one of the UK's finest rising talents, has returned to Riddim Records with some his most elegant work to date. With his unique and stylistic approach to Drum & Bass, 'Dusk', a new four track EP, perpetuates the sound that we at Riddim hold so dear, fusing tech-y rollers, glitchy beats, deep atmospherics and newfangled vocals.

The title track, 'Dusk', is our first stop: progressive euphoria with both incredible warmth and a delicate sound. Deep bass and hypnotic drums bring the vibes.

'When I'm Alone' hangs a sharp left into a dark and tech-y roller with seriously eerie undertones. Subdue goes even deeper with the glitchy 'Reality'. A murky stepper that combines a raunchy lead synth and powerful sub. 

Finally, 'Afraid of You' is the warm glow ending the tunnel, featuring the rich vocals of ES. Kay, one of Riddim's newest signings. A signature ballad to take us home.

It's been nearly a year since Subdue's last Riddim Records feature 'Who Am I' on our VA album in early 2020. He's now returned home, and what a return it is.

Austria is a country full of talents and today we are honored to welcome back on Delta 9 one of his brightest one: Division.

Slowly building up his discography with one solid releases after another, Division is making sure to leave an impact on the scene, the three tunes that he has sent us are proof of his skill set.

The dreamy yet dark intro of "Betrayal" quickly transforms itself into a claustrophobic pressurized wave of subs and tight drums while an eerie vocal plays mind tricks on you. Don't listen to this tune before bed time, we warned you!

The second tune is a collaboration with german producer Jabba, the title "Levitation" probably refers to Maglev's levitation as once the drop hits, you'll feel squashed on your seat traveling at 600km/h.
Fasten your seatbelt as sharply crafted drums function as tracks while the ludicrous speed increases and so do the tension created with bass notes and foleys placed with artistry by the two producers.

Last but not least we have "Crypta", third enigmatic track of the release.
Cryptic as an Enigma machine, the song is all about the commixtion of fat basslines and punchy transients, the atmospheres are there just to keep your mind occupied with your conciousness goes deeper and deeper.

Born in London, raised in Budapest and now thriving in the heart of Bristol, it's been a real journey so far for Sonic Rain, real name Boris Garland. Training as a classical pianist from a young age, and energised by the influences of scene lynchpins Symmetry Recordings and Metalheadz, it's clear to hear there's something really special in the making here. Treading softly and methodically between the sharp, driven breaks of 'Unity' and the flowing, wonderfully eerier sonds found here on 'Polar Field'; there's a soulful yet prominently vintage aesthetic etched within his writing process... almost, the subliminal peaks and caveats of the written word, frolicking in the musical artform. It's lovely stuff, and forms an integral part of 'Foundations Vol 3', the third iteration of Melinki's Four Corners Music's commitment to the new-gen, and they always deliver on this compilation.
