Electroacoustic work about gendered TV advertising aimed at women and girls. The piece uses lo-fi sound samples from TV ads. 

15 Seconds (2005) - excerpt

A feminist, electroacoustic work in the form of a 9th Century mass, Pope Joan tells the story of a mythical female pope. Pope Joan uses the composer's own voice, bell and tambourine sounds, and heavy electronic processing.

The Third Day was generated from a letter in the secret Chinese women's language, Nushu. This letter and the linguistic and scribed characteristics of Nushu influenced the structure, the look of the score, and the instrumentation. The two recorder players use extended techniques and the score is unconventionally notated, allowing a degree of flexibility and improvisation. Performed by Katrina Dowling and Hannah Coleman. Live recording.
