Mellowtact Live @ Splore Festival '21

As we are slowly preparing to transition into winter, winding down from the NZ festival season, we are delighted to kick off our Silk Sessions Podcast. Every two weeks you can expect to be taken on a unique journey by one of our Silk Collective members.

In this first session, @mellowtact is showcasing congenial tastes from the softer side of electronic music. Mellowtact has slung grooves right across NZ from festivals to warehouse parties from early evenings to late nights & sunrises.

Decompress - An Afterglow

Sunrise set at Ignition Festival, Matamata, New Zealand

Recorded in the early hours of Friday morning, after the UV Masquerade Ball at the Funkhutt.

A Burning man - style event, Ignition was a 6- day festival nestled right up against the Kaimai mountain ranges in back country Matamata with nothing around for miles but all you beautiful people.

Thank you to everyone that came along and contributed in one way or another.

Opening set of The Funky Freak Show

A fundraiser event for Funkhutt x Mint Country Club x Hijinxx held at the Funkhutt warehouse in Auckland, New Zealand.

It was awesome to open this party, a packed out warehouse rave to support three rad theme camps for next year's Kiwiburn (New Zealand's regional Burning Man event)

That warehouse was humming all night long, big ups to everyone that came down and supported these theme camps.

The Tenth Explorations to slide over LO-FI's desk is Auckland based groove magician MELLOWTACT  (aka Daniel Coe)

Mellowtact has astonished Lo-fi with his musical depth and his effortless set pacing at the ripe old age of 22.

Drawing influences from psychedelia, jazz, funk and reggae, Mellowtact fuses worldly influences with a modern deep mid tempo groove.

Daniel has been running the successful Sunday session 'Sundaze' at the Ponsonby social and has kept a busy festival calendar over summer.. appearing at AUM, IGNITION, FRIENDS FROM AROUND THE WORLD and more. He is now looking forward to EARTH-BEAT

For this podcast Daniel has weaved his usual hypnotic groove around a mix that is suitable for all occasions and is sprinkled throughout with some cheeky re-rubs to put a smile on your dial.

My recording from the raw, steaming & uncensored dance floor at The Big House Palace in Parnell, New Zealand...

I recorded this after Paige Julia had been throwing down the biggest bass-driven , wall shaking, banging grooves to a full dance floor over three hours.

Things get a little weird... I hope you're into it

Here in Brazil, 'Dia dos Namorados' — equivalent to 'Valentine's Day' on February 14th — is a 'commemorative' date on which the loving union between couples is celebrated, particularly on June 12th since 1948, but the motive is exclusively commercial. Thus, we adopted the month of June to release mixtapes that will distribute different interpretations and 'sound-link' related to the theme.

Love is essential to our well-being. Though love can be very confusing. What we call “love” and what another person calls “love” may be divergent. Closeness, romance, commitment, connectedness, sexual consummation, decision, bondedness, physical attraction. Hard task when trying to figure out how those aspects are inserted in our relationships. But we don't want answers, we only want to explore the emotions brought by music.

In the southwestern Pacific Ocean, New Zealand is a paradise with golden beaches, towering mountains, mist-cloaked fjords... But it's also home to the DJ Mellowtact. Well-known in the local scene for his early morning sunrise tales & after-hour ketapop grooves. Surrounded by serenity and remoteness, he's been staying out at a peaceful beach  for the last months — in the far north of New Zealand; while enjoying music, surfing and building projects in order to keep the mind on the go. 

Continuing our special with this 178th edition in its 63 minutes that brings a substance nicely and compassionate to a rushed, overloaded world. With the collected sounds, the New Zealander DJ delivers his interpretation, meeting a love in its sensitive and enigmatic intensity; in its enchanted, extraordinary and everyday power. Adventurous, intense but not tough.
