Hiding (Reworks) is a unique collection of recompositions highlighting the talents of several exciting musicians, centering around a track that pianist and composer Garreth Broke wrote for solo piano called Hiding.

Hiding was first released as part of a collaboration with artist Anna Salzmann titled Healing, which explored the healing process in all its complexities. Whenever Garreth returned to the piece or played it in concerts, he kept having new ideas for it, as if the piece itself were telling him that it wanted to grow. This prompted him to invite a group of musicians whose work he admires to create a series of reworks of this composition, encouraging them to be as adventurous as they liked — a task that they really embraced, leading to some mesmerising results.

The result is this EP, in which Hiding is presented in six different forms. First, you’ll hear the original piece re-recorded on a gorgeous felted C. Bechstein upright piano, then reinterpreted by the fantastic ondes Martenot player and multi-instrumentalist Josh Semans from the UK. The wonderful Australian clarinetist and looper Ruby Lulham, aka Clariloops, offers up the gorgeous third track, which is followed by an exhilerating rework by Sweden-based Vargkvint and Jakob Lindhagen featuring wordless vocals, kantele, zither, harmonium, electric organ and synthesizers. In the fifth track, the piece is reworked into an atmospheric piano-led song sung by Vargkvint with lyrics by artist Anna Salzmann, who created the paintings that first inspired the project. Finally, Josh Semans closes out the collection with a brief but beautiful reprise.

This collection of recompositions shines a light on the unique talents of its contributors and, like a kaleidoscope, fragments of the original piece are ever-present but always shown in a new light. Hiding (Reworks) comes out on the 3rd of March, featuring artwork by Anna Salzmann and graphic design by Celia Bayo.

Sometimes the universe has its way of reminding you of what’s important in life. You get caught up in all your bullshit, and then, one morning, you wake up and suddenly hit that point which truly makes you take a step back, look around, and reassess everything you have been “building” up until this moment. That nagging, stressful, and upsetting thing right over there? Well, that can wait. Perhaps you’ll get to it another day. And if not, well, it will still be there. But for now, you can give yourself permission just to breathe. In and out. Ah… That’s so much better. Thankfully for me, I have this thing that I call music, which I can turn to for an hour every morning and spend some time, like with a friend. And in the end, this post with words that you are reading right now is just my way of sharing those precious single moments with you, when we can simply breathe. Today I am spending sharing my time in the company of a Norwegian composer and pianist, Ole-Bjørn Talstad, who just got signed to the beloved Moderna for his debut, titled Ferd. The album collects eight miniature solo piano pieces that add up to just a bit over 19 minutes in length, and their elegant, intimate, and emotional narrative truly resonates with every cell of my being. As I do with most solo piano compositions, I listen to them in my headphones. This somehow transports me to my own recording sessions in front of an upright piano and close-placed microphones next to the hammers, slightly caressing the strings through the felt. Suddenly, just as I felt with one of my favourite records by Otto A. Totland, it’s as if I’m playing this music myself. I’m hearing the music the way Talstad is hearing it. One simple note at a time. And in between the keys, in all of their ease and purity, is where I find my peace. I hope that you will find yours too.

With the occasion of the re-release of his original score for the theatrical play "Zyklon", Manos Milonakis finds himself in Kópavogur, Iceland and together with violinist Björk Óskarsdóttir they record an outdoor live version of the "La Forza del Destino", based on the original theme by Giuseppe Verdi.

Single to be included in "Zyklon" OST, coming out later in 2023.

Sebastian Plano is a composer and cellist from Argentina, currently residing in Berlin. His work for Denovali Records, collaboration with Ben Lukas Boysen for "Everything" game (which subsequently was released as a soundtrack on Erased Tapes) and the most recent solo album, "Verve" on Mercury KX, has captivated fans of cinematic, ambient, and modern classical music. For this premiere, Plano reworks a track by Tom Adams from his 2019 release, Particles, on Moderna Records, a gentle yet confident, complex yet playful, nostalgic yet hopeful, and brief yet memorable sonic piece.

Sergey Yenanov, also known as Mélodrama, is a contemporary composer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and graduated choir conductor from Kyiv, Ukraine.

At the age of five, he began learning the drums and piano, followed by the trumpet and accordion. Sergey started writing music when he was fourteen years old. After graduating from the National University of Arts, he went on to have a career as a choir leader, classical singer, and songwriter. Now he is focused on creating music for films and commercials. 

In 2018, the record-breaking South Korean boy band BTS used his composition in their live performance of "BTS: The 4th Muster." His music has also been licensed by Disney, the United Nations, Armani, and Hublot, and can be heard in television series, documentaries, and ads on well-known TV networks.
