Melody As Truth is proud to announce “Melodies In The Sand”, a collection of works from Czech artists Irena and Vojtěch Havlovi.

The husband-and-wife duo began working together in the mid 80’s as part of experimental ensemble Capella Antiqua e Moderna, a unique association of musicians whose repertoire spanned various styles of European classical music.

With an inventive and unorthodox approach to both historical and modern compositional techniques and interpretive procedures, the Havel’s have steadfastly developed a unique and musically autonomous language which continues to expand to this day.

Spanning their early work in Capella Antique e Moderna to recent pieces recorded for Viola De Gamba, ‘Melodies In The Sand’ is presented to the listener with the simple aim of shining a light on these incredible musicians. Their work has within it the ability to penetrate and enrich the innermost corners of a perceptive human soul, a gift which they share with sincerity and humbleness.

MATTIE is a mirror. She is an oracle of the SOL, and a watchperson over the keys to liberation guiding your experience via modalities of introspective visuals, lyrical self-inquiry, melody/harmony, experimental instrumentation, movement, meditation, and performance art.



Her sound? Experimental SOL. Her destination? Wholeness.



An experimental vocalist from Dallas, TX - MATTIE began singing in church at age four where she learned the basis of conventional gospel music. From there MATTIE has toured + recorded with Israel Houghton and New Breed, and received Dallas Observer Music Award nominations.

Rather than falling on the raw side of things, @christophesalin ‘Making Other People Happy’ is a glistening piece of technicolour house. The track’s 808 foundations are layered with filtered stabs and incandescent pads that seem to herald the arrival of spring.

Crisp, brown leaves covered the ground throughout the woods; a beautiful autumnal carpet that would soon be swept away by the cold temperatures. There was something about this time of year that comforted them. Perhaps it was the freshness of the air that filled their lungs, or the beautiful tones of the bare oak trees that navigated their path home. Whatever it was, in these moments, the world felt peaceful and undisturbed.

For their sophomore release, International Extraterrestrial Music welcome Torom to the label for a five-track EP centred around organic rhythms. Limited to just 200 copies, the release —which follows the label's inaugural outing last year from Herb LF— blends earthy, wooden textures with fourth world atmospheres, layered over a sturdy foundation of rolling drums.

And there you have it, folks – the 300th episode of Headphone Commute Podcast! The very first mix was published exactly twelve years ago (about a year after the site was officially launched), and I simply used the platform to share some of my favourite recent finds, before the all-digital era of playlists (in fact, many of the features mixes were made from vinyl). The format quickly picked up, with many of my favourite artists showcasing their very own selections. The top mixes, to this day, still remain :papercutz’ Dream Scores, Orangewarrior‘s Chilled Dubstep, and my very own selection of the Best of Modern Classical (of 2010). Somewhere throughout the last decade, I toyed with the idea of creating a record label and releasing compilations (like the monumental … and darkness came), but in the end, I always turned to mixes – they capture all there is to say. So without any further reminiscence, I present to you a mix by Franck Zaragoza, who releases on n5MD as Ocoeur – in fact, he’s got a brand new album on the way! His latest, titled Connections, is scheduled to come out next Friday, September 10th, pressed on a beautiful, limited edition, transparent red double LP. A few of the tracks from this upcoming release are featured on this mix, curated exclusively for Headphone Commute. There’s always more to say about the selection, but maybe I’ll just let the music speak itself.

For each vocal composition the actors exaggerate and amplify ‘emotion’ over the rhythmic
pronunciation of a single phrase .
Reminiscent of pop accapella stems, reflected and distorted, the heavily processed voices
coalesce into canons, harmonies and dissonances with ASMR qualities.
By constantly repeating the mantra “Actual Feelings” throughout the length of the entire
album, the progressively fragmented language falls prey of semantic satiation,
increasingly warped into abstraction.
what remains is a soundscape of glossolalias as if the coherent facade of performative
behaviour disarms itself, lulling the listener into a comfortable Gestaltzerfall.

When it comes to record labels there are very few who can contest the continual relevance of Sonic Cathedral. Born and bred from the depths of obscure club nights they since evolved into one of the most engaging and individual record labels in the UK. Never one for hype or over exuberance they have steadily released music since 2006 and continue to move forwards. 

The latest project to emerge from the record label is a new club night called 'Ambience Chasers'. The evening will take place monthly in London and will focus on the more obscure elements amidst electronic music. Expect soundscapes, drone music and ambient bliss.

As with all of my ‘Reflection’ year-end mixes, I start with a long list of albums I have enjoyed over the year. Often hundreds. Through the process of putting a mix together that flows well, the songs are whittled down and selected from each album. This means many of my favorite tracks are often omitted in the process (even favorite tracks from a favorite album). But as I say every year, this isn’t a definitive ‘best-of’ list, but an organic selection of some of my favorite music from the year in a listenable format - it’s the most enjoyable way for me to boil down music I’ve loved from the year using these self-imposed restrictions.
