The Magic Journey

Primary [colours] is excited to announce the first of our two winners of the Bandcamp mix competition. We could not split the two mixes!

The competition consisted of buying the entire catalogue of Primary Colours from the Bandcamp store and creating a two hour mix from the catalogue of Primary [colours]. 

We would like to thank everyone who contributed a mix but these two stood out above the rest.

First up we would like to introduce Recardo. We hope you enjoy this well curated and meticulous mix.

Recardo is a Perth-based producer and DJ with a wide range of electronic music tastes, but always has a soft-spot for deeper sounds.

"I've always considered myself a producer first and DJ second - and that’s how I approached this mix. Once tempos from my short-listed tracks were locked in I built out the sequence a track at a time until I was happy with the flow. As everything was locked to a grid in Bitwig, I was free to take liberties with the arrangement of certain tracks, and use some sections as additional layers to keep the flow or build intensity. Finally, I mapped a custom effects rack to a MIDI controller and recorded more conventional DJ-style effects to help shape the overall dynamics of the mix."

🔉 Не виключаю, що до цього моменту термін «leftfield» не застосовувався до української музики, створеної на основі можливостей електронних інструментів та творчих амбіцій, не обмежених рамками комерційних прагнень продюсерських центрів. Але хоч термін і запозичений, він цілком доречний — як щодо оригінальних експериментів учасників гуртів «Цукор – біла смерть», DZ'OB чи Yarn, так і щодо структурних композицій Hidden Element, Monoconda, ID_UA, які органічно почувалися в передовому музичному комʼюніті та намагалися залучити вітчизняну аудиторію до світового культурного контексту.

Амбіція видати музику на твердому носії — вінілі — лише додає впевненості студійним рішенням, що призвели до результатів, які складно класифікувати. Саме для таких опусів і започатковано цей затишний куточок, де можна поринути у творчий простір без стилістичних барʼєрів і помандрувати крізь сучасне чи позачасове, як заманеться.

Multi Culti is full of life, an elaborate project which has sky rocketed, blossoming with musical heritage and a new wave of artists. Red Axes, Clarian, Auntie Flo, Nicola Cruz, Manfredas and many more have all appeared on the imprint. 

Thomas von Party and Dreems first founded the record label back in 2013, unaware of the course it might take. The two are both independent producers and dj's in their own right, however, together they offer something else entirely. 

We are delighted to be able to welcome the pair to contribute to our Ransom Note mix series, a duo who need very little introduction.
