melt mix vol. 46 - DJ Yassas

Sorsa, also known as Andrejs Gudilins, is a Latvian DJ residing in Riga and a member of the local Jauda crew. His sets boast an eclectic mix, where the connection between tracks transcends genre, focusing instead on vibe and style. Rooted in his fervor for unearthing rare and overlooked gems from the '90s and early '00s, his selection spans old-school trance, progressive, house, and tracks enriched with sultry vocals.

'I recorded this mix in September 2023, featuring my personal greatest hits that I've played throughout the summer. So this one feels a bit nostalgic to me.
Just before the release, we were travelling trough the sunny La Palma island and during one of the long car rides I've decided to relisten to it and this brought me back to warm summer mornings, when it feels like the time and world just freezes and you feel deeply hiptonized by the crowd and music that you play. And you catch that feeling that nothing else metters at this point 💕
So I really hope listening to this one will bring joy and smile on your face, as it was intended. Enjoy!

This week we have the pleasure to welcome french DJ, producer and founder of Tsunami Recordings Lisa More in our Mix Series. Her music often swings between break-beat, bass music and post-club – inspirations as recent as old and kitsch – but always fed with sense and well built scatterbrained melodies. Resident at One O One (101), Le Sucre, Rinse France and Lyl Radio, her debut album Cyborg Tears released last february gave us the chance to discover a more intimate side of the artist, introspective and melancholic, mixed with an underwater aesthetic now familiar from her Tsunami events. An in-house ep to put the Neurocrank label in motion, courtesy of Harrison Sewards, al dente (@al-den-te). 

Signature drones and haunting vocals meet playful melodies in a more slinked out, but recognisably Harrison style of house. Adorned with characteristically unpredictable yet precise percussion, the ep finds its way into a space as ominous as it is infectious. 

To top it off is a remix from the one and only Ulo S (@reptant_the_lizard), marking the first release under the more tech-house leaning Reptant alias. This deep dub of Hey Crontis brings a euphoric end to the ep, hands up, shoulders still bopping to a bassline undeniably done by the lizard.

One of the minds behind local rave crew Dog's Breakfast, Atticus aka EuDuBong offers up some uplifting, groove-laden, decompression-oriented house, tech and garage recorded live at 7am from one of the Dog's Breakfast raves back in October. Rapidly increasing in notoriety and popularity, these Naarm-based not-for-profit monthly doofs and exhibitions aim to maintain the queer foundations of rave through safe and inclusive spaces while fundraising for important causes such as the Zoe Belle Gender Collective. melt mix vol. 88 - EauDuBong (live @ Dog's Breakfast)

Co-founder of @airatoulouse ambient collective, French Dj and producer, William (@kheymysterio) crafted us a trance mix inspired from “moments of collective joy that can be found at summer festivals and forest parties”. 

Many exciting projects are coming for William this year: “Like a lot of people, I’ve also started to produce during the lockdown, when I finally got the time. This year will see the release of a number of collabs with artists I really like. And probably an EP by the end of the year”.

I'm delighted i've managed to compil denser atmospheres for Motorium, compared to the stuff i usually play.

Expect obscure and wet slowness, sometimes revived by percussions and rhythms with major notes. Warm smell and vanilla taste. Sometimes frenetic dancing, left-right-left-right, then back down again, sucked into a padded sofa…

Picture this: an oasis in Lichtenberg, away from the crowds, where people can chill out in a bounce house and dance however the fuck they want. After every soul sweated it out for a solid 10 hours of rave, Aroent and Neinzer took over the decks for one final jam to wrap May Day up. We recorded that beast of a set, and here it is: Vision 020 w/ Aroent B2B Neinzer!

Having previously played together at Refuge Worldwide, the synergy between @aroent and @neinzer is evident, and you can sense a genuine friendship and understanding in the way they mix their tunes: their silky smooth selections of UK techno and breaks create a sonic dialogue that intertwines just perfectly. Like a tour de force of complex percussive structures and four by four fan favorites, the many twists and turns keep things fresh throughout its over 2-hour duration. As apparent as it is, monotony is not a word in their vocabulary.
