You Cant Relate To This At All

Many years ago, shortly after sunset my fathers brother Stan (aged 20) climbed aboard an aircraft along with 4 other young men. After taking off they effectively vanished into the night sky, with no trace of the aircraft or its crew ever found. This piece is dedicated to Stan and all of the young men, of all nationalities, whose lives have been cut short by war.

When you look at the statistics of poverty, crime, and human misery, the numbers show that life is getting better for most people.

It was such a pleasure and privilege to work with composer and pianist cis minor / Peter Vorländer on this composition, words can barely even do it justice!  This piece grew rather organically, over the course of our many philosophical email exchanges.  Peter is a truly gifted musician with such sensitivity for emotion, and the ability to imbue feeling into each and every note...as you will hear in the gentle rise and fall of this melody, set to the evocative James Joyce poem, "Rain Has Fallen All The Day."  It felt quite high for me to sing (I more typically like to sing low and moody, ha!), but there is something fitting about what happens to the vocals when they float in that range......somehow as though it is no longer my own......the poem taking over......minimal words with such a sense of sweet vastness, and possibility.
