A brief but incisive recording from Moscow’s Lena Tsibozova for volume 44. She recently released a tape via Baba Vanga, and is a member of the group Air Krew. Her music covers a wide spectrum of styles and feelings that are appropriately reflected in this mix.

Honored to welcome recent LA arrival John Jones to the series for Volume 47. He records music solo as Nerftoss / AV Moves / Calvin, and is involved in a collaborative project called Geo Rip. This mix served as an exercise for him to find a meeting point between sounds that initially sparked his interest in the genre of electronic music in the early 2000’s, and the stuff him, his friends, and contemporaries are making now. A sentiment to a past self through moods and melodic elements.

Volume 47: John Jones

Suzanne Ciani is a true electronic music pioneer. The five Grammy nominated Italian-American neoclassical composer is unquestionably one of the greatest minds that contemporary music has ever witnessed. After an incredible career spanning forty years, Ciani’s accomplishments have become a benchmark when discussing the origins of musical synthesis. For more than four decades she developed a body of work that transcends the music industry, composing for film, video games and famous advertising campaigns that have impacted popular culture.

On December 14, 2019, after six years of sound experimentation, Lapsus Festival bid farewell to Barcelona’s Centre for Contemporary Culture. Its final event was entitled 'A Sonic Womb' and was dedicated to the musical roots of the synthesizer, with Suzanne Ciani headlining on the night.

Ciani performed an exclusive show accompanied by her modular Buchla 200e synthesizer and enveloped in a specially designed multi-channel sound environment by Intorno Labs. It was a sonic voyage to the very heart of her beloved machine and a tribute to improvisation through an instrument that is said to possess its own soul. Suzanne described the night as ”an improvisation that I began using in the ’70s and continue to use now as raw material. Each performance based on this material has its own expression and one could liken it to jazz."

Lapsus Records is therefore extremely honoured to present 'A Sonic Womb: Live Buchla Performance at Lapsus', a unique live recording of this extra special concert. The album will be released mid September on Lapsus Records and can be pre-ordered now at www.lapsusrecords.cat.

In collaboration with Scott King, we celebrate the appearance, in 1984, at the height of the Miners Strike, the appearance on C4' The Tube of The Redskins - the greatest punk/soul band of that era. Of any era

The band ripped through 2 fierce tracks - but it was most memorable for a speech by a striking miner - Norman Strike. You could see him spitting out his words with a passion. You just couldnt hear him. The mic had been switched off. It was, afterall, 1984

You hear the speech at the beginning of this tape - then we have musical interpretation from Autumns, Blue 0161, Laudanum, Richard Vergez & Halfnelson

HALFNELSON - On A Limb - 'Strike' cassette on Industrial Coast

The "Outsider" of the day is Artetetra, Milan-based label founded by pantropical duo Babau (Matteo Pennesi and Luigi Monteanni).

Since 2014 Artetetra has been interested mostly in tape releases concerning the latest developments in the concepts of digital folklore and transglobal exoticism.

For "Outsiders", Artetetra will contribute with a series of original live recordings from the label's dearest artists, starting this month with Francesca Heart.

Perception of entropy is a collection of time worn electro acoustic compositions, melancholic ambient melodies, tape manipulations, granular drones and field recordings.
