Music has played a big part in Murray's life from a very early age. Music of different variety has always appealed to him and an interest in the soulful, the experimental and the obscure remains with him still today.

His first memory of taking an interest in music comes from playing early Devo and The Clash trax and along with the 2Tone and Go Feet sounds of The Specials and The Beat, these formed what was his first major musical influences.

1987 was his first experience of house music through the early Trax and DJ International sounds and having been involved in night clubs in Ayrshire, Scotland, from a young age, it was the original Streetrave "West Coast Jams" at Ayr Pavilion that turned him onto the music that still captures his heart today.

Having moved from Ayrshire to the capital of Scotland, he quickly established himself as one of the worlds best up and coming house DJ 's, crafting his deep house style at his early residencies, “Genus” and “Zodiac”, before going onto dj in some of the worlds coolest clubs.

The world of house music finally realized Murray's potential and since wining the prestigious "Muzik" magazine, bedroom bedlam award early in his career, there has been no holding this dj back.

Murray has spread his talent with guest spots all over the world, playing in some major cities such as New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, Seattle, Las Vegas, Portland, San Diego, Barcelona, Lisbon, Prague, Moscow, Johannesburg, Capetown, Munich, Warsaw, Bogota, Madrid, Paris, Stuttgart, Verona, Porto, Copenhagen, Ibiza, Brussels, Belgrade, Goa, Tiblisi, Tokyo, Bangkok, Buenos Aires, Rio De Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Asuncion, Malmo, Helsinki, Zagreb, Budapest, Lima, Antwerp, Ghent, Pisa, Sydney and Melbourne, to name just a few.

Close to Murray’s heart is his own night,“Rebel Waltz”, which became a major part of the British deep house scene and helped him become an integral part of the British deep house sound. The night has held residencies in Edinburgh, Nottingham, Barcelona, London and Sao Paulo and the night has toured as far and wide as the UK, Europe, Asia and South America. Rebel Waltz was also recorded live for DJ Magazine and released as a covermount cd along with the publication.

As with any good DJ, he possesses superb technical ability and a hunger for new sounds. What really sets him apart from other djs is his ability to remain part of the vibe and place himself on the dancefloor with his crowd, which is no surprise as that’s exactly where you will find him if he's not on the decks himself - this is no moody DJ. When you watch him play you know he loves what he's doing.

Originally recording as “H.O.W.Project”. for "Finiflex" records,the first release, "Listen Carefully", marked the start of his collaboration with John Vick [A Finiflex Production].

Murray’s debut solo recording was picked up by Clive Henry and Rocky’s London based label “Low Pressings”, with the track getting a full international release. “We Came In Peace” by “Spacejunk” kick started his solo production career and Murray has gone on to work with some of house music's best labels including "20:20 Vision", "Low Pressings", "Creative", "Nordic Trax", "D.Press Industries", "Deepbass", "Magnitude", "Strawberry Blonde", "Deepxperience", "Sensei", "Baker Street" and "Piston Recordings". Murray also compiled his first mix compilation cd entitled "House Of ill Repute" which was released on the internationally known “Slip N Slide / Kickin” records. This year Murray will be releasing remix projects for Seattle's "Tilted Recordings" and both "Acid Culture" and "Ozone Recordings" from the UK.

Having spent years based in Edinburgh in Scotland, Barcelona in Spain, Sao Paulo in Brazil and Lisbon in Portugal, Murray continues to dj all over the world ...

DOC RECORDS is an independent record label founded in 2013 and operated by Brazilian architect and music producer Gui Boratto. The name is a reference to "Denominazione Di Origine Controllata" or D.O.C., used for certifying all different types of food which follow a set of regulations and come from specific geographical areas. In this case, it's about music that relates to Gui's own sound-like principles: to Gui, more important than style, it is the music itself that and its beauty and harmony that count the most. Thus, the intent to launch quality timeless music, avant-garde, rhetorical and with a well defined and efficient language and expression, regardless of its shell. 

After all, there's only good or bad taste.

Before I got into this music I wanted to be an originator ; I wanted to be original".
Founding member of the legendary group Underground Resistance as a 'Minister Of Information' with ‘Mad’ Mike Banks & Jeff Mills, his seminal works on Jeff Mill's Axis and his very own M-Plant imprint paved the way for a wave of stripped-down dancefloor minimalism that directed much of techno's path throughout the late Nineties.
Robert Hood makes minimal Detroit techno with an emphasis on soul and experimentation over flash and popularity. 

"Growing up in Detroit, I grew up with Motown in the house - a lot of Motown and Philadelphia soul, artists like Marvin Gaye of course and Curtis Mayfield. I remember Isaac Hayes, the soundtrack from ‘Shaft’ had come out. My father was a jazz musician; he played piano, trumpet and drums. My mother was in an R’n’B group.
We listened to a lot of Motown - in fact, my grandfather’s first cousin is Berry Gordy.

Robert's father tragically died when he was just 6. The photo of Robert siting down holding a trumpet is his fathers.

In the early 90's he began to concentrate on his own production 'Vision EP', the 'Riot EP' and X-102 were big stepping-stones for him as they were the first releases he worked 100% on his own. The X-101 to X-102, were Waveform Transmission projects with Mills for Tresor. He slowly progressed to work more and more on his own, but collaberated on some of the first Axis releases with label owner Jeff Mills as H&M (Hood & Mills) with ‘Tranquilizer EP’ and ‘Drama’.

He soon decided it was time for him to start his own label to focus on what was in his soul musically. M-Plant started in ’94. I had developed this “grey area” sound - what I mean by that is that in Detroit, even when the sun is out, there’s something in the atmosphere. I don’t know if its pollution or whatever, but the sky has that grey haze over it. It’s got to be something from the industrial factories there. I’d never really heard a sound like that before and it came from a Roland Juno - it was a chord sound that really went along with my depiction of what Detroit was at that time. A lot of buildings were abandoned and there was a lot of lifelessness in the city, especially downtown. The M-Plant, in minimalism, kind of reflected that. I remember thinking of Detroit like a museum. You know, like a work of art standing still, suspended in time. There wasn’t a whole lot of activity going on.

Releasing singles such as "Internal Empire,", “The Protein Valve” "Music Data," and "Moveable Parts", "The Pace", more recently "Range", "Alpha" and that isn't even touching his other monikers Floorplan, Monobox, The Vision, etc.
"M-Plant is what I've always wanted to hear: the basic stripped down, raw sound. Just drums, basslines and funky grooves and only what's essential. Only what is essential to make people move. I started to look at it as a science, the art of making people move their butts, speaking to their heart, mind and soul. “It's a heart-felt rhythmic techno sound. M-Plant is just M. minimal. “

Although his desire to remain underground has been replaced by an urge to reach a wider audience, mainly via his housier, disco, gospel moniker Floorplan with his daughter Lyric Hood,   Hood remains fiercely critical of artistic and economic movements destructive to inner-city communities and has combined his musical enterprises with outreach and social activist ends.

Now an established force in contemporary Techno, Mike Bierbach, better known under his stage name Rødhåd is someone who has seriously put in the work. Having cut his teeth DJing as a relatively unnoted (but well loved by those in the know) local in Berlin for 10 years, one could argue that by the time success knocked on his door, he was more than ready for playing the international stage. It was during these 10 years of obscurity when he refined his craft to become the singular DJ he is now. 

Launching his party-series-turned-label Dystopian in 2009 was what truly tipped the ball over for Rødhåd. In a time where the Berlin scene was heavily oversaturated by fluffy, miscellaneous dance music, he & his peers set out to form a platform for real techno. The reception to this was raucous. 

Although he has lauded productions and remixes to his name, DJing is his true forte. Before abandoning his day job as a draftsman in construction “The Red” (as some call him due to his gingered, bearded appearance) was known for playing very long sets in Berlin’s most notorious hideaways. 

With an album, several EPs & remixes for a multitude of different artists under his belt, Rødhåd the producer has received equal praise as Rødhåd the DJ. Dystopian has hosted most of his releases, but in 2018 he founded a new label WSNWG that serves as a home for collaborative productions, excavated in sessions at his East-Berlin studio with his peers such as Lucy, Alex.Do, & Antigone.
