Max Essa (@max-essa) has been active as a producer and DJ since the early 90s, initially releasing music on labels including Warp Records and Paper Recordings and DJing alongside the infamous D.i.Y Sound System.

His later work, for labels like Is It Balearic? Recordings, went on to be play-listed by legends such as Andrew Weatherall and David Mancuso, gaining him a devoted following and DJ bookings around the world.

Albums for the Japanese major label, Victor Entertainment ('Vacations Never Taken' 2015) and Music For Dreams ('Lanterns' 2018), plus EPs for labels including Hell Yeah! Recordings and Razor N Tape (with Eddie C), and a constant stream of remixes for labels like Compost, Ubiquity, Faze Action and Leng have shown him to be a prolific and deeply imaginative producer.

Since 2008 he has been based in Japan where he plays regularly at clubs and events around the country, from Hokkaido to Okinawa.
From 2010 - 2023 he was a resident DJ at the Lone Star parties, and later the Zim Zam Zu! events at the legendary, Bar Bonobo and for over a decade has been a resident at the ever popular, Aoyama Tunnel in Tokyo.

Manchester native Andi Hanley was for years one of the great things about NYC, charming, low-key, a great great DJ, he quietly was a graceful presence in the land of the overhyped and ego driven. For years Andi held down the music supervision for Rock Star games and was responsible for a lot of great music getting out to the gaming masses, Andi also was a vital member of Body and Soul, for years doing the warm up and setting the sound palette for Danny, FK, and Joe. Andi has since moved back to Manc, and is currently on the hunt for his own space to install his system and set up a proper party. (tell us when chief!) We are happy to have this great set from him, and we are also happy to have the great Disques Town drawing he did for us!

Prins Thomas, the man from Norway, has been DJ'ing producing and remixing at a steady pace since the late 90's. One of the more celebrated figures in contemporary dance music, T has come a long way from his start as a break dancer and musician in a range of bands. He runs several labels, most notably Full Pupp, has released several lps ( 2 solo, 2 with frequent collaborator Lindstrom ) has an extensive discography (understatement) and has been touring worldwide sharing extended dynamic sets that are an amalgamation of disco, house, cosmic, psychedelic and balearica. T is the biz, he keeps it deep, fresh and intimate. As you are reading this T is bringing his Orchestra - The Prins Thomas Orchestra - to Istambul for some live shows. We can’t deny it anymore, friends… The summer season entered its final stage and that is a time that tends to always make me a bit melancholic. Luckily I’m not the only one who feels that way and for those of you who need some musical comfort, I got just the right Messy Mix for you, delivered by a true hero of mine - Mr. @joemorris from Leeds.

Joe has been an essential figure in the contemporary Balearic house and electronica scene, running the great label Shades Of Sound Records with plenty of sweet releases in that field, including his own ones. He released a new album called “Some Kind of Paradise” this summer which I enjoyed during the warmer days of the season. It’s a wonderful selection of 90s trip hop, downtempo, and modern Balearic electronica and I love it. Same goes for his monthly radio show on “Loose FM”... needless to say - I’m a huge fan and I kindly recommend you to check out his Soundcloud as soon as possible.

So, obviously I’m very thrilled to have Joe on board for this laidback new Messy Mix which goes by the title “Last Rays Of Summer.” According to him this set is a “collection of moods and sound palettes to compliment the last rays of summer as they melt into the first shafts of autumnal light.” And yeah, it definitely transports that atmosphere in a very warm and wonderful way. It makes that whole transitional process a lot easier and I hope you’ll enjoy this soothing selection of music as much as I do.

Prop Joe aka Harlan, record collector and DJ from Sydney, Australia brings us a 90 minutes of upbeat tunes. On this mixtapes Prop Joe shows us his dancier side compared to his usual selections. 

Prop Joe has recently been collecting and playing slower stuff in Reggae, RnB, Street Soul, Downtempo etc., but holds a general love for anything that gets the feet moving. He plays around  Sydney with some regular local gigs and the odd party, while also been running his own mix series under 'Music for Ears' for the last 3+ years and infrequently host events under the same name.
