Fabric asked Headz label manager Ant TC1 to put together a promo mix ahead of a Metalheadz session in room 2 at the London venue on the 16th of August 2013.  It's mixed using 80/90% vinyl and some newer unreleased material off CDR's.

The mix is almost 2 hours long and one that takes a trip right back to early releases on the seminal label since it's early inception within the realms of Breakbeat / Jungle / Drum & Bass (going back 20 years) right up to the labels current and forthcoming releases.  Hope you enjoy.

A recording of my set at Metalheadz, Fabric, London on the 16th of August 2013.  One of the best gigs I've done all year, crowd on top form all night and great sets from everyone who played.  

There were some problems with one of the decks as you can tell in parts however overall the recording sounds good.  There's a few rewinds (I try avoid them but some of them weren't my doing)

The recording level (as you'll hear) is a tad pushed overall but generally sounds fine overall.  

No MC was recorded on the out.  Rewind sections have been cut to chop any dead listening space.  It's 1 hour 15 mins taken from the 2 hour set as there were some technical issues on the recording in places and the last part didn't record.

Next up for our Outlook 2013 mix series is an exclusive mix from the Don - Hatcha. The musical heavyweight comes strong with a classic selection of garage classics. His Outlook garage sets are thing of legend and this mix was never going to disappoint. 

Hatcha’s roots seep deep back into late ‘90s UK garage, Croydon and pirate radio. Originally the buyer at the now defunct Big Apple record shop, Hatcha was one of the very first DJs to pick up on the new dark strains of 2step that were being made by local producers like El-B, Artwork and Horsepower at the turn of the millennium. 

As the garage sounds from south London began to take on their own unique, dark swung direction, it became clear that the nascent scene needed a home. In 2001 Forward>>, dubstep’s founding club, started with Hatcha a resident. 

In 2003 he even played a part in naming the genre. Amidst the scene’s key players: the Big Apple camp and Ammunition who ran Forward>> and Tempa, the term “dubstep” (from dubby 2step garage), began being circulated. Hatcha was then asked to mix the scene’s first compilation that cemented the use of the name: Dubstep Allstars vol 1.

Digital's selection on this promo mix, one the Ipswich based producer made to mark his forthcoming appearance in the Metalheadz hosted Room Two on Friday 21st June, is absolutely vital. It's an easy term to band about, like "oh yeah dude, this tune is vital to the flow of the mix," or whatever, but there's a real aspect of classicly informed junglism about the breaks he chooses to unite. That fact might be totally unsurprising if you aware of the man's heritage within drum & bass so if not, here’s a short lesson…

After being involved with reggae soundsystems in his youth, between ’89 and ’91, the exponential scene around jungle and drum & bass started to bubble and Digital started hiring out his soundsystem and found his entry point into a scene that had people like Rupert Parkes, better known as Photek, already enamoured with it. With solo releases stretching all the way back to ‘Touch Me’ on Timeless Recordings in 1995 with Digital releasing ‘Niagra’/’Down Under’ on Metalheadz a year later. A regular on the scene ever since Digital went on to birth his own Function imprint, releasing Space Funk: The Archives 1995-2008 in May of 2009, chronicling his progression and career up until that date. 

Still as potent and precise in his DJing, Digital’s appearance at Metalheadz on Friday 21st June promises a lot with his core educated dynamics nestling amongst sets from Goldie, Calibre, Lenzman, Jubei, CMX, DJ Flight and One 87.
