Whilst maintaining it's fundamental elements, the essence of the of the 160-170 BPM music bracket or DnB spectrum has been fluctuating wildly in recent times. It's ongoing evolution is as relevant, infectious and omnipotent as ever. Drawing in the influences of Chicago's Footwork, Juke and Ghetto House sounds, the big guns at Exit Records, Critical, Metalheadz et al., continue to be the  pioneering forces shaping these sounds. Constantly pushing the boundaries and making it impossible for any sort of categorical box to even enter this conversation.

Down in the trenches along the fringes of the war-zone, Sam Binga has been doing a first rate job in cutting his teeth, chugging out bombs alongside mainstays like Om Unit & Addison Groove, he has left his mark on the field and has earned his stars to garner huge support behind this alias. We thought it fitting time to recruit the man for the latest instalment of the 7 Wonders series. The ‘Flawless’ LP showcases Electrosoul System’s innovative style - an album reinvigorating drum & bass experimenting with raw industrialised sounds and futuristic twists. With an abundance of originality, ‘Flawless’ demonstrates the refined skill of one of Russia’s most exciting musical talents.

Journeying through an eclectic set of tracks from the deep jungle trek of ‘Time Traveller’ to the hypnotic warehouse wanderings of ‘Shadows’, tempting the ear with the all-alluring vocals of Deeizm. Title track, ‘Flawless’ takes a trip through a daydream state, following through with the funk fusions of ‘Past-Time Cruiser’ before dropping into ‘Harder Than Sox’ for some relentless percussive pull-ins.

Having begun producing from the mere age of fourteen, its unsurprising Electrosoul System has already had a successful string of releases on a number of well established drum & bass imprints, alongside running his own label KOS.MOS.MUSIC.

Also remembered for his prominent appearance in Hospital Record’s ‘The Future Sound of Russia’ compilation back in 2009, whilst fast-forwarding to 2015 Electrosoul System featured on Sunchase’s “Thing” – a firm favourite from the stunning ‘The Truth’ EP.

Impressing once more with this fine contribution to the Med School catalogue, ‘Flawless’ is set to excite the ears and open the eyes of Med School and KOS.MOS fans alike.

This year's been a prolific one for Bristol producer Break. He's released the 'Murmur VIP' with Octane, the '40 Hurts' EP on Gutterfunk, 'Strictly Entertainment'/'Dulcit Tones' on Playaz and put out 'Symmetry Sessions 2' on Symmetry. 

He won't be sitting back and thinking that's enough for the year though, as third album 'Simpler Times' is due to arrive in September, adding to a decade-long list of releases on Metalheadz, Ram, Dispatch and Critical Recordings.

As the old saying goes, you wait so long something and then two turn up in a row. Head honcho Goldie is back on the firm after his solo single ‘Broken Man’ end of 2015 with two versions of absolute Rufige Kru classics. First up is SCAR’s remix of Dark Rider, premiered by Goldie himself at Deviation to an massive crowd reaction- SCAR bring Dark Rider into 2016 in inimitable style.
Beachdrifta is perhaps Rufige Kru’s most seminal moment and  the VIP pushes it out to another realm with Cleveland Watkiss vocal, a voice synonymous with Goldie’s classic work.

Mako has gone from strength to strength. He had a stellar year in 2015, he released an EP on the main Metalheadz label and put the finishing touches to the OneMind project in collaboration with DLR that has resulted in an album forthcoming for Headz.
This brings us to 2016 and the release of ‘The Third EP’. The tracks develop the theme Mako has been crafting- stark soundscapes move across well executed breaks and basslines, all in all a massive release for Mako. The artist grows in confidence with each release and it’s great to be able showcase this on Headz.

"At the start of the month, this small label turned two years old. That doesn’t really mean anything in the grand scheme of things, but it has given me a chance to reflect on how the hell we’ve ended up here.

As a concept, Voyage existed for some time before we released the first record. I had a clear idea of the aesthetic it would take on, but it wasn’t until Sam/Sprinkles brought my ramblings about artwork, record sleeves and sci-fi to life that the label became something tangible, something real. Since then, Voyage seems to have evolved in parallel to my musical tastes and Sam’s visual interests as the records speak through their artwork more and more with each release.

This mix is loosely based on a narrative of the label and the past two years, featuring an upcoming EP by Youandewan, unheard Ausländer meanderings as well as a remix made especially for the mix by Urulu. I’ve also included some bits of my own that will see a release in some form on the label as well as a few things made this month to tie the whole mix together.
