Great North 2015 Mix

Earlier this year Desert Dwellers released their most diverse album in the duo's long career. The Great Mystery was the first full length collaborative project between the main founders Amani Friend and Treavor Moontribe, and featured a wide range of styles and aesthetics from downtempo and psychedelic dub to tribal trance to exotic house and techno flavors.
To celebrate the special release, Desert Dwellers have curated an ambitious two-part remix album full of contributions from some of the brightest luminaries and rising talents across the underground electronic music landscape. The Great Mystery Remixes Part 1 is slated for a September 21st release, and features sonic reinterpretations from Gaudi, Liquid Stranger, Hibernation, An-ten-nae, Kaminanda, AtYya, Tribone, Twin Shape, Land Switcher, Drumspyder, and Govinda. The second part will be released in late October with contributions from Emancipator, Whitebear, Sixis, Mystral, Supersillyus, Halfred, Master Minded, and many others. With artists from across the globe and musical genres, these carefully crafting renditions of Desert Dwellers' The Great Mystery are a potent combination of immersive soundscapes that pay a loving tribute to the original compositions.

"Not just grabbing the baton from Koma & Bones -- who ran the second leg of the Y4K series -- but positively sprinting away from all competitors, Freq Nasty turned in a mix album that proves up to the level of innovation in the title. First of all, he forswears the usual cast of breaks specialists (only Total Fusion, Tayo, Almighty Beatfreakz, and Phil Kieran get the nod). Second, he makes the mix his own -- actually playing the DJ instead of just the selector -- by heavily layering the inclusions, whether doubled-up tracks, a cappella versions, or his own remixes. And he paces the mix impeccably, dropping just enough off-tempo tracks to keep listeners attention. Every track sounds like a highlight in context, and, just as it should be, Freq Nasty himself wins honors with his "Amped (Dub)" -- which wins additional points for breaking into an a cappella of Public Enemy's "Bring tha Noise" midway through. Jede Ausgabe unseres Podcasts ist ja etwas ganz Besonderes, aber mit dieser hier feiern wir eine Premiere, auf die wir ganz besonders stolz sind. Denn waren alle bisherigen Ausgaben DJ-Sets dürfen wir euch dieses Mal ein ganz exklusives Live-Set präsentieren.

Wer unseren Blog mitverfolgt, der weiß, dass wir schon immer von der Musik des Bremers http://soundcloud.com/zusammenklang begeistert sind. Auf ihn aufmerksam wurden wir bereits vor unserer Gründung durch seinen Beitrag für den Schwindelig-Remix-Contest von Kollektiv Turmstraße (welcher ja auch die Nummer 24 unseres letztjährigen Adventskalender war) und seitdem begleitet uns seine Musik, die man am besten mit deep, entspannt, verträumt aber immer auch mit einer gehörigen Portion Druck versehen, beschreiben kann. Und auch Künstler wie Oliver Schories, Solee oder Joachim Pastor haben genau diesen Sound zu schätzen gelernt und sich einen Remix von Zusammenklang anfertigen lassen. 

Nachdem nun im vergangenen November die EP „I die 4 you (Music) / Melodie“ bei Parquet Recordings erschienen ist, steht mit „Tagtraum“ das Debutalbum des Bremers bei dem selben Label in den Startlöchern. Passend dazu hat Zusammenklang einige der darauf erscheinenden Tracks in seinem Beitrag zu unserem Podcast eingebaut, ein Stück sogar in einem extra für uns angefertigtem Edit. Einige bisher unveröffentlichte Tracks, die nirgends woanders zu hören sein werden als in dieser Podcast-Ausgabe machen dieses Live-Set wirklich zu einer Rarität, mit der wir euch nun viel Spaß wünschen!
