In The Words of Gil Scott-Heron - A Tribute by Doctor L

Violens' forthcoming album, "True," finds the Brooklyn three-piece further amplifying their innovative songwriting with a palette of exquisitely crafted sound. The band's music eludes classification, expertly blending percussive guitar work and silky harmonies, seeking the silver lining yet to be discovered between the sounds we know and love. With a wash of 90s sonic pop drawn from artists like Pale Saints, Cocteau Twins and McCarthy, Violens paint soft watercolor notes across their compositions, adding crucial emotional depth via layered vocal harmonies.

The album's first single, "Totally True," demonstrates this with its stone-washed, semi-improvised feel, celebrating bands like The Chameleons and Martin Newell's Cleaners From Venus. The guitars are clean and jangling, meshing perfectly with the driving bassline. The lovely vocals have an almost 60s feel; their debt to such soft-rock touchstones as The Association and Sagittarius is one of the unique elements of Violens' sound that sets them well-apart from many of their contemporaries. The b-side "Something Falling" is a dreamy ballad marked by an effectively spare production, sweeping synths and the band's trademark harmonies. Simply gorgeous.

In this instance of mutual admiration The New Tigers cover Top Sound's I Have Been Replaced, while Top Sound cover The New Tigers Pocketful Of Sand. 
To make this even more momentous both tracks will appear on 7 inch which comes through Top Sound's own label Ça Ira split with Soliti on the 23rd July.

We're thrilled to announce the release of Black Lizard's self titled debut album, which drops via Soliti on the 5th April 2013 (on cd, vinyl & digital). Recording sessions that have taken place between Helsinki and Berlin with the participation of amongst others, Anton Newcombe, Black Lizard's debut has got us very excited. To add the required final piece of the puzzle the self-produced album was mastered by Sonic Boom at New Atlantis Studios. "In Enemies" is the first official single from Still Life Still's sophomore album 'Mourning Trance' - out August 20th on Arts & Crafts.

Of the infectious track, guitarist/vocalist Brendon Saarinen says, “It’s about the wild side of life, how control is an illusion." 

Mourning Trance was produced and recorded in Toronto by Alex Bonenfant (Metz, Crystal Castles) and is the follow up to the 2009, Kevin-Drew-produced debut Girls Come Too. Thunder Tracks is the moniker of 25 year-old Oklahoma native Jake Scott, who names the likes of Devendra Banhart, Neil Young and Vashti Bunyan as inspirations. Recurring themes throughout his bedroom-recorded songs include: “Ghosts, light, a glow, colour, wildlife, and personification...” 

Here is the story behind Graffitti in Jake's own words:

"Graffiti is a song about me haunting my girl, except that it's not creepy and sad but beautiful and weird. It's about how things wouldn't change much if were a ghost. I would still mess with her, go on adventures, and get into a little trouble. In the second half I sing her side of the story. She knows I'm still around, getting into shenanigans, and in the end we let each other know that we are still with each other."
