In2Deep - Basicality

'Hommage proudly welcomes the return of Valiete to our label with his debut EP. The Frankfurt-based producer impressed us with his remix of ‘Walls’ by label bosses Monkey Safari, which dropped earlier this year, and here he is with the Blackout EP. Valiete runs his own Empore label with friends Marc Wolf and Philipp Harm, launching the platform in 2014. Four years after the label launched, he released his first single ‘Saga’ and introduced the world to his energetic, emotive sound. On his debut, he showcases his unique talent with two original cuts, plus a sparkling remix from Re.You...

The EP begins with ‘Blackout’. As the title suggests this cut has an ominous atmosphere which Valiete builds carefully, with layers of percussion and moody synths. Creeping out from the shadows is a hypnotic melody which counteracts the dark mood, adding a sense of urgency. After a searing breakdown we enter the second part of this cut which distills the core elements down into a more minimal structure.

Next up is ‘Whitechapel’, a spellbinding track that combines soft, affecting timbres with Valiete’s penchant for exquisite percussive arrangement. The first half of this cut is sparse, with floaty atmospherics and the gentle thump of its bassline. Valiete guides us into a hushed breakdown full of anticipation, leading us into the second part of the track where things get a little bit strange...

Wrapping things up, Re.You turns in a delightful remix of ‘Whitechapel’. The cut utilises his trademark drums, respectfully taking key elements of the original and adding some of his own flavour. A steady build up ushers us into a mesmerising interlude and the track’s equally enchanting second half.'
