dandelion is a song for trying to make the world a better place and failing. we cannot be heroes in everything that we do; our world just isn't wired that way. but it is important to try and to continue to persist in love and intentionality. I hope this song can remind you that there is love that waits for you.

something i've learned in the last few months is that when you bite the sides of your tongue, ever so gently, subconsciously, and frequently, you can develop what's called a scalloped tongue, which is basically when those bite marks show for the long haul. i learned this from experience, and it made me think about all of the little ways my day-to-day anxiety presents itself: biting the inside of my cheeks; grinding my teeth; tensing my jaw. i found it a fitting metaphor for the way that the freedom to express yourself freely in a relationship, romantic or platonic, comes from very carefully curated expression. kind of feels like lockjaw.

my jaw doesn't feel tense anymore but the scalloped tongue has low key become a staple. makes me feel a little like a lizard. thought you should know that to lighten the mood

it's been a while since i posted a full-length cover, and on the day i decided to record one, i felt drawn to one of my favorite songs of all time. i have this playlist with maybe twenty songs on it of the most meaningful and beautiful songs to me, and this one is on it. 

i started listening to phoebe bridgers in 2021 in honor of my sister, who was dealing with a lot of depression and anxiety and had to take a step back from technology. it made me appreciate having free access to music, so i listened to some of her favorite artists, and phoebe stuck because, surprise surprise, i was also depressed at the time. savior complex didn't make a lot of sense to me lyrically at first, but as i've sat with it for four years, it's made more and more sense. it is also just heartbreakingly beautiful, which is my favorite genre of music :)

i hadn't posted a full cover of this song yet because i wasn't sure about the content of its lyrics. sorry if it's a little out there lol

when i had just moved to amsterdam, a new friend of mine challenged me to write a love song about the convenience store we were all obsessed with at the time, albert heijn. i'm not sure how well this translates to american audiences but the albert heijn name drop at the end had us all rolling. they said i should try to sell the song to the company but i think albert and my love should transcend a corporation, don't you?

this is one it may be a little too early to post, all things considered. but i am quite proud of this song. i felt in the mood to write a song one night in amsterdam, but then i got invited out for drinks. so i went out, then came back and wrote this in the studio around eleven pm. not really gonna tell you much more about it, except that it really does hurt my own feelings to this day.

i wrote bassett hound about a certain little crush i've got. if you can guess whom it's on, great, you've got pretty basic critical thinking skills! let's just say there's a reason i spelled the dog breed wrong ;) if any of you want to be a wingman hmu

also it was very fun to write this and include as many dog references as i could. there are a lot of homophones so i spelled them the way they immediately make sense for the lyrics on screen, but apply a little more of those basic critical thinking skills i know you have and you'll find them everywhere

a lot of times i write songs to try to create a physical manifestation of my emotions, and i see a long life ahead for that immortalized feeling. when i wrote fancy shmancy free, it was not that; it was simply to write a song just to talk about some random stuff that'd happened that night. i didn't put too much effort into trying to make it eloquent or even good, but people have seemed to like it, and i've come to really like it too. here's my song about wishing i could be fancy shmancy free :)

i was introduced to manchester orchestra in amsterdam (seriously- of course i knew phoebe bridgers' rendition of their song "the gold" before that). skip forward to the fall of 2024, when i was working night shifts at trader joe's. while we restocked shelves after we closed we could listen to music, which is when i stumbled upon bad books, a collaboration between members of manchester orchestra and kevin devine. i listened to II: revisited first, and i love this version of "it never stops" so much, i cannot listen to the original version of this song. my best friend disagrees though, so we are a house divided. whichever version you prefer, you seemed to like my short cover of this one a little while ago, so here's my full rendition :)
