i wrote this song because i think when we often look at our youth. our teenage years...people often think of it as the time of our lives. i wrote this song for people that don't exactly feel that way. that more feel like they don't have a place in the world in their youth.  and they're still figuring that out and trying to understand who they are and what they're doing. that's why it's called young and burning. we're these young kids figuring things out and becoming adults. 

when you think of fire you think of something beautiful and passionate. but also extremely dangerous. and i'm sure some people can relate to those mixed emotions. for that's what i've felt about growing up. like i was just in this chaotic world that was beautiful but also not for me. i didn't fit in even though it was exciting. i'm trying to comfort the uncomforted. i'm trying to comfort the lost. because you are this beautiful fire but you don't know what to set alight next and not be dimmed out. trying to survive and avoid having someone dim you out. the highway represents the accidents along the way in our youth, the flat tires. i made this song to say to teens and kids "don't give up. don't let people dim your fire. you have a purpose. you can control that fire. and yes you're young and burning and crashing and hurting and you feel like your whole life had lived a lie. and there's this smoke in your eyes from your fire and you can't see past your youth and you can't see where you're going. but i want you to know that you can find a place to go." this whole song i wrote is about hope! it's bitter because i'm reflecting i didn't fit in as a teen but it's also knowing that i can dispose of that feeling and find my place. the message of this song is you can find your way. 

this song is the anthem to healing our troubled depressed generation. escaping the pressures of social media and finding our real paths. as a songwriter it's my duty to comfort those that feel lost. i don't want anyone to feel lost. i take this seriously. i don't want anymore fires to go out.

you're going to be okay. you're on my mind lost people. you are not lost you are just finding your way. remember that.
