This one is my latest remix for Traum, of a track by Microtrauma coming out at the start of March. I loved the eerie vocals and groove on some hi-end drums from the original, so I took those and built a new chord arrangement over them, sticking to a simple understated feel throughout....it's supposed to be a quite relaxed track basically, I must be getting old!

Having just returned from Gottwood festival, the duo has completed their newest meticulous crafted recording for Traum. It has been a whole year since their last release on Traum, with a lot of touring to remote parts of the world and building up their new studio, so we expect people to be looking forward to their newest invention. Microtrauma have been a Traum label stalwart since March 2011 with their "Colorblind EP" and the "Olivenkernkomplex EP" maintains both the charm and expert craftsmanship of its predecessors and even adds some new striking perspectives.

"Olivia" starts rather simplistic as a dramatic tale and evokes images of early Plastikman trax. Its machine nature in the course of the track swells with organic respiration and makes it a sensuous piece of music that never boils over but simmers on the surface creating a kinetic catchiness par excellence. This is not only a great opener of the track but a very fine blend of stripped rhythms and synth pads. Microtrauma’s strength is the fine balance they create through the knowledge of playing live for years now. Like so many of their tracks in the past also this track has cosmic energy going.

Track two features "Olivia" in a remix version by Hernan Cattaneo & Soundexile. The Argentinean electronic music ambassador who is a legend in his time, having being voted to to one of the best DJs in the world by DJ mixmag many years in the row and who is named in the same breath as John Digweed, Sasha, Paul Oakenfold, Henry Saiz and Nick Warren has been a strong supporter of Applescal and Microtrauma from the start and has recorded together with Soundexile this remix of "Olivia". Their interpretation of Olivia has lead to an epic symphony for the senses, changing keys and synth pads with great knowledge for a perfect flow. Creating a perfect balance between beat and melody. Hernan Cattaneo & Soundexile have written a strong remix which will make a lot of people happy and put a smile on their faces.

Fantastic "stop and go" rhythms are taking place here... synth pads and sub-bass pressure are the matrix of the track... leading it into an exceptional deep and electrifying break. This is a breathtaking break you will very rarely come across… it can connect to the best moments of Klaus Schulze. A goose skin track and a a big one for all people who like to explore the in betweens and the new face of melodic techno.

“Contrast” as the title itself suggests, is very different to the other two tracks. The beat relies on a “break beat” and the musical theme may as well be the most adventurous of all tracks. Steering towards different levels, all parts are connected to each other in a magic way... the spirit is kind of gloomy and bright with nice feedbacks and a seductive mildness and musicality that makes it so unique and cool.

Robot Koch and director Lukas Feigelfeld have teamed up to create a special collaboration project. After Lukas directed the video "Autodreams" ("The Other Side", Project: Mooncircle) in 2011, they wanted to go a step further. The idea behind the release "Unpaved" was to create a short film in which the music and the images are equally important.

Imagine the old mystic character "Pan", which represents nature, animalism and freedom, in a contemporary and realistic setting; becoming a modern vagabond, a drifter, living in the woods and roaming the lands, always accompanied by his friend, the dog. As his path leads him into the city of modern society, he is quickly confronted with its harsh reality -- The conflict between living in an urban space and wanting to be at piece in a remote place in nature. Can we consider ourselves animals or have we already evolved into something too distanced from its natural enviroment and essence?

"When I write music it's always very visual. I have images in my mind that put me in certain moods while I produce -- oftentimes I make music to a film that hasn't been shot yet. This has been something I wanted to do for a long time: compose music for a film." -- Koch

Berlin producer Robot Koch is back for his third full length release, “The Other Side”.

Although Robot Koch has an international reputation as being "One of Europe`s finest producers of the beat generation" (Low End Theory), he is much more than just a beatmaker… “(Post)-dubstep infused Electronic Hip Hop“ is far too constrained a label to understand what this producer is all about. Instead of following the sound of his previous albums “Death Star Droid” ("Essential listening" - Bobby Friction BBC) and “Songs For Trees and Cyborgs“ ("Music for a modern age that has rarely sounded so good” - Boomkat), Koch takes the genre defying ingredients from these previous records to another level. There still are some of those “Galactic ten ton beats and space age melodies“ (Dazed and Confused) that made the previous albums staple drops in the playlists of Mary Anne Hobbs, Starkey, Daedelus and Gaslamp Killer to name a few, but there is a new dimension to Koch`s production and songwriting that didn’t show on his previous records.

The cinematic vibe of tracks like “Nitesky”, the quirky and moody feel of “Bugs” and the electricity of “Tapedeck” show how Koch more than ever manages to create intimate and timeless pieces of music that are soulful, deep, mysterious and that will appeal to fans of cutting edge Electronica and modern pop music alike. This is the most personal record of Robot Koch to date. Instead of going for big name features Koch teamed up with lesser know artists like Kansas based vocal talent John LaMonica, long time friend and theatre composer Nielson and mexican singer/songwriter Graciela Maria to find the right voices for his compositions. John LaMonica infuses his whimsical and heartfelt melodies that breathe an air of darkness and nostalgia with Koch`s fresh and forward thinking instrumentals to create something that fans of Radiohead, The XX and Jamie Lidell should not sleep on.

”I`m glad John contacted me, we were thinking of collaborating on one song for my album but it ended up being five songs, they were all fantastic and helped me find the right direction for ‘The Other Side’.”

After the release of the John Robinson collaboration album (“Robot Robinson” – Project Mooncircle) earlier this year, it seems surprising how extensive Robert’s output is, but don’t be mistaken, this album is a longer term project than just releasing the songs Koch made in the last year. Some of the songs found on “The Other Side” were made seven years ago.

”I didn’t know what to do with songs like ‘Bugs’ back then. Now it felt like the time has come to release them, they just made sense with of the most recent stuff I’ve been making and it all fell into place. But it was not an easy album for me to make. The previous albums just came together rather quick but this one was a real mission, something I’ve been trying to do for years and I could never really get it together until now.”

Legendary John Peel (BBC) knew in 2003 already when he said about Koch`s productions "Wonderful and strange, pop music from the future“.

This original track had a really nice piano riff along with an interesting groove and some weird noises, perfect remix material! Also I love what Mauro Norti has been doing, and Wide Angle, so I got involved. I think I did a lot of the ideas for this one during a wait for a delayed flight in an airport, and I was feeling pretty tired at the time, and a bit paranoid because some weird guy sitting opposite seemed to be staring at me. Then some other guy came up to me with a mobile phone in two pieces, slightly freakily shouting words of English that made no sense and trying to give me this phone, I never managed to figure out what he was on about. Anyway, this track was my escapism from all that crap, I tried to make something nice and relaxing and enveloping to remove me from reality a little, hope you like it.

In 1995 simple tracker software got the interest of the two friends Daniel and Ricardo. Thus, they decided to produce a few tracks.
Both shared a common passion for all sorts of different musical styles, which made their early productions very diverse.
Through the many influences of artists from New Order and Depeche Mode to Massive Attack, The Prodigy, Moby and the various techno disciples
of this multi-faceted time, the two of them produced everything they enjoy, be it trip hop, electronica, breaks or techno.

However, in 1999 the two of them went separate ways for reasons of diverging careers.
They quickly lost touch to each other until the contact ceased completely. Yet, the two of them still wished to produce music.
This is why both of them kept working with synthesizers, music software and studio technology creating their own tracks.

In 2003, it was coincidence that brought them back together.
The two friends met again at a small local electro party and soon realised that they still shared the same interest for electronic music as they had four years earlier.
After a few sessions in their domestic living room studios they decided to make more of their hobby and, thus, started renting their first studio in 2005.
Microtrauma was born.

In 2007, Microtrauma had its first release “Wake up“ on the Elected Tunes label. Their first own release “Collar EP” soon was to follow.
Microtrauma has developed its own style from almost ten years of working and tinkering as well as its many influences: melodic, dark, technoid and minimal.
