Portrait of a Lady on Fire, the extraordinary film from writer & director Céline Sciamma, is a love story about a painter & her subject, set on a remote island in Brittany in the 18th century. The film is obsessed with visual art, & it's a beautiful piece of visual art in its own right. 

It comes about halfway through the movie, when the painter & her reluctant subject, attend a late-night, all-female social gathering around a bonfire.

The women gathered around the fire perform a haunting & mysterious piece of choral music, rendering a showstopper scene where the audience is completely enveloped in the song's opening glissando, polyrhythmic claps, & haunting chanting.
The song embodies its own meaning, creating & delimiting a liberating space right at the film's center. 

I felt I had to experiment with this beautiful, transporting, & rapturous piece of music. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed working on it!

Midrange Burnout is a post-punk outfit from Stockholm. Inspired by iconic post-punk, noise and indie rock bands, they produce danceable bass lines that would make your music teacher kick you out, energetic drumming that sounds like a punk drummer actually listened to their music teacher, and guitar playing that constantly jumps the border between the weird and the beautiful. Fronted by actress/dj/singer Niki Smith, this strange concoction is topped off with powerful, yet frail vocal lines, that explore the existential issues of the post-postmodern human.
