Midwest Hype is a 7-piece outfit hailing from all over Indiana/Chicago. The band's sound is rooted in reggae, jazz, and hip-hop, yet constantly expands in every direction, bringing together the vast influences of all seven members to create a sonically unique blend that is the essence of true modern rock n' roll. With an extremely high-energy live show that never fails to capture the electricity in the air, Midwest Hype is a free-wheeling, dance floor mayhem-inducing force to be reckoned with.


HELLO THERE MUSIC WORLD:) My name is Nicholas L. Barnes. Im a multi- instrumentalist/solo musician from Bunghole,Indiana. Ive been  recording under the name Nexus Nostalgia for the last few years after my long time band Astro Nixon fizzled out and broke up. Im kind of a washed up product of the 80s,90s and early 00's..which I believe was the last great musical era before music started de-evolving into what the consensus of "popular" music has become these days..I've been inspired by a vast array of influences like: Primus,The Butthole Surfers, Frank Zappa, NiN, Pixies & Breeders, Faith No More, Helmet, The Residents & Snakefinger, St.Vincent!!, Veruca Salt, The Cure , MGMT, M83, Big Black(legendary producer Steve Albini,not the rapper) and too many more to mention on here...All of my music is written,performed and recorded by myself  avoiding as much digital fuckery as I can using only real instruments [with the exception of my drum machine]and as little computer technology I can although the quality could be a bit better but I really just record my music for archiving purposes. I feel music means a lil more nowadays knowing its solely made by a human rather than software or even A.I. doing all the work. Yep all human here and I hope this catches on in the future. I hope to eventually establish a band so I could finally perform my Nexus Nostalgia material onstage as a whole instead of just me alone in the studio...I call it "Musical Masturbation " since im just playing with myself...haha..get it.. Also hope to gain interest from a label and get these songs more professionally produced..Thank you if you listened and I hope you find a song that resonates with you and enjoy...NLB.
