This song came from those late hours when you start missing someone without meaning to. 
It’s about watching a person you love grow, move on, and build their own life, while you still feel their presence in the small places they once filled.

The melodies follow the feeling of distance mixed with hope. 
A soft guitar, gentle piano and warm strings carry the memories of old phone calls, footsteps in the hallway and the way a room can still hum with someone’s voice even after they’re gone.

It keeps turning

The song isn't quite finished, but I'd like to upload it as early as possible in December, even though you can listen to it at any time of year. Since I don't have any more time this year, it's coming out now on SC. I'm happy with it as it is. I don't always like the vocals in the second verse, so I would re-record some parts. The bass is just a first draft and the mix (the volume of the individual instruments could certainly be improved). But I'm happy with it as it is. Anyone who doesn't like it this way wouldn't like the revised version either. Let's go it's:

contentment, gratitude, and humility are not necessarily among the central sentiments of our time, nor are they at the forefront of modern human nature, which constantly strives for improvement of whatever.

as soon as we have achieved something specific, we are already looking for something next, like inhaling and exhaling, only to inhale again, and so on. that’s the way we pass the time, and time passes.

interestingly, when I was a little boy (at a time when life is still so full of questions and mysteries that you dare to ask the naivest questions), I loved to hold my breath and imagine what it would be like if life were one long, uninterrupted breath?

sometimes I still ask myself that question today, like recently during a walk on a wet and cold december evening. 

I watched the colours and lights of the city, doubled in the reflections of puddles and rainy streets, and observed the bustling activity of passers-by scurrying restlessly back and forth: infinite heaps of important, urgent, pressing, pleasant, or less pleasant things in all our minds that need to be done, like the next breath or the next heartbeat.

I held my umbrella to one side, looked up at the deep black sky with its dark clouds illuminated schematically by the city lights, felt the cold raindrops like fine ice needles on my cheeks, and held my breath. just for a short carpe momentum. then I walked on, because I still had something to do...

I wish you all a relaxing pre-christmas weekend with special or not-so-special moments to simply stop time. even if it's just for a breath.

Carl came up with this song at the beginning of November on his acoustic guitar, and shared it with the rest of us shortly after. Carl is a songwriting supernova, in case you're unfamiliar with our newest addition to the team. We're always excited and grateful to get to work on his music. 

  Mark was first to add his parts, although he tweaked them throughout the process. His work can be heard in the dramatic string arrangement and mellotron at the crescendo. Josh was next to jump in, adding his new upright bass to the song. He played not only the plucked part, but the bowed part in the strings section, too. Ken came along next with his perfect drums to complete the rhythm section. JJ wanted in on this, too, so he added the foundational piano you hear throughout. Last, but not least, Stephen dropped in his electrifying guitar solo and the accompanying textural chords using is Danelectro baritone guitar, followed at the very end by his magical e-bow part. 

  Once it was all in the bag, we asked Tez to produce and mix it for us, which he did in his always expert fashion. 

  This is our latest song of which Carl is the author. He's been making music with us for the past half a year now, and we can't get enough of his abundant creativity. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.

  Also, Carl had this to say about his lyrics, "Labels and putting each other in a particular box is causing big problems on the planet. The song's meaning is born from trying to take labels out of our lessons. In a polarized world, the song pines how we will likely learn lessons properly if we leave ego out of what we are trying to learn. Maybe our art has more relevance for future generations if we do that instead of bolting it to the current people or ideas causing us problems."

I watched from across the street, near a house with bushes.
There was a cop that pulled over a speeding truck. The cop didn't have a face. He was silhouetted in darkness. The truck wasn't though. It was white. I could easily make out the truck.
The truck stopped, but then took off. The cop fired at the truck's wheels, or so I thought. Then another truck, this time a black truck, sped by and the cop fired at it, but not at the wheels. The cop was aiming at the truck to damage it. The truck turned over.
Then the man in the overturned truck got out and pointed a gun at the cop. The cop didn't have a gun. I don't know what happened to it, but now the man with the pointed gun aimed his at the cop's head.
I knew the cop was a goner and ran. For if the man was going to shoot the cop, he'd shoot me too. I ran around the neighbor's house, but there were brown, faded meshed fences that blocked my way. I looked for a way out, but everywhere I turned there were more fences.
And I thought, what was the gun-happy cop to me? A hostile authority figure? And the pickup trucks? Defiant southern gentleman? And the senseless killing? A horrific rebellion against authority?
And I pondered these questions the best I could until I could go no further, trapped by brown, faded meshed fences near a house with bushes.
And the man with the gun crossed the block with a face I could see, but couldn't, for the shadows covered it all.

And I awoke from my dream and looked out my window and there was a cop across the street that pulled over a speeding truck. And I pondered why until I could think no further, trapped by brown, faded meshed fences near a house with bushes.

I’m a song-writer who enjoys creating music of any genre.

My son recently introduced me to A.I. and taught me how to do covers of my previously released non-A.I. music. Since I've never considered myself a performer (except playing with worship bands at church or solo-piano at a rehab center) using A.I. is right up my alley.

Since I've  exhausted using my previously released music for A.I. covers, I now compose music in a DAW, rip to a wave file, and make an A.I. cover of this wave file. I then write lyrics to the A.I. music. It takes around 100 A.I. iterations to complete the lyrics and get a style I'm happy with.  

Brief Bio: Lived more than a quarter of my life overseas (Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Italy, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan). Each country gave me an appreciation for different types of music plus probably why I get bored easily in sticking with one genre or another.
