For many this is the ultimate Disco Illusion; a record that should have been epoch making in its day, something that would have been a staple for David Mancuso, Larry Levan & Ron Hardy had it ever gotten distribution when it was originally released 34 years ago. Somehow time passed it by and it was only re-discovered in a warehouse in Trinidad last year. Since then it has been gaining momentum fast, with DJ support from Moodymann, MCDE, Floating Points & Kon, as well as original copies selling for four-digit sums. Part of the illusion is in the structure of the record. The A-side begins with a beautiful hazy disco song, but suddenly an Egyptian sounding bridge turns things inside out and the song opens up into stripped back proto-house jam complete with bubbling Sun Ra synths and Black Ark tape delay action. Then there’s the b-side, which sounds like Bob James after he had a taste of callaloo, with deep electronics and a mind-melting steel pan solo.

On this remix NEW_ID have created their take on the classic Axtone house sound delivering with typical aplomb.

Long term super fans of Kraak & Smaak, fellow dutchies NEW_ID were delighted with the opportunity to rework their favourite cut from the former's latest album Chrome Waves.
Practically neighbours to their long time heroes, they all hail from Leiden; also the home of Armin, fact fans!

Stee Downes is a singer with a fantastic history, producing and releasing his own material on Sonar Kollektiv as well as releasing on some of the world finest electronic labels including Get Physical, Crosstown Rebels, 2020 Vision, NeedWant and Exploited. His collaboration with Lovebirds in 2011 "Want You In My Soul" was considered by many to be tune of the year and turned many listeners on to what Stee was capable of.

NEW_ID have set out their stall this year with a string of killer remixes and Originals that have garnered support from the likes of Pete Tong, Sander Van Doorn, and Alesso, both on air and in the clubs and festivals.
The NEW_ID & Axwell remix collaboration on Steve Mac & Mutiny UK ft Nate James 'Feel The Pressure' reached the summit of the Beatport release chart whilst their reprise of the classic 'Thrill Me' by Junior Jack is sure to be a festival mainstay for many years to come.

Kraak & Smaak will be touring Chrome Waves throughout the summer ahead of a Chrome Waves remixed album release.

Bouncing off an exclusive mix for Diplo and BBC Radio 1, Shapov confidently returns to the airwaves of ‘Axtone Presents’, kicking off with his forthcoming Axtone single, ‘Future Rave’. Continually turning heads, including that of the aforementioned grammy-winning Diplo, 2016 is marked as Shapov’s 'big year’. The Russian producer’s determination and musical prowess has never been more evident.

Citing British acts The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers as musical influences, fans get an insight into where Shapov’s “Future Rave” sound stems from. Good and pure things come fast! The same goes for “ADA”; the highly anticipated collaboration between Code Red its chief Marcus Schössow and Axtone’s favorite NEW_ID. The idea for this anthem came in one day, but the track will endure the summer and beyond? No wonder that since Kryder premiered it, fans and DJ’s are eager to get their hands on “ADA”. Well they can, soon!

“ADA” is pure, an outing of creativity without any boundaries. The track sounds organic, has a progressive feel and contains a bit of tribal. Everyone at Code Red got instant goosebumps when they heard “ADA” for the first time with its iconic xylophone, massive trumpets and amazing break that takes you on a musical journey.

Marcus Schössow and NEW_ID both outdid themselves with “ADA”. Their first collaboration has the potential to become one of the summer anthems of 2016. When we sent out the first promo’s the feedback went from very positive to euphoric and ecstatic. Top notch DJ’s like Tiësto, Steve Angello, Axwell, Ingrosso, Kryder and Tom Staar fell in love with “ADA” immediately.
 
So there you have it; “ADA” by Marcus Schössow and NEW_ID will be released in the middle of the summer on Code Red. The festivals, clubs and Ibiza are warned for this amazing and uplifting summer anthem that might even set a new standard for progressive house music. It’s now up to you and the fans to embrace this pure tune and share “ADA” with the rest of the world.

Released in 1975, the "Young Americans" album was recorded in the US, where David Bowie was living at the time under the heavy influence of philly soul and early disco sounds. On this record David surrounded himself with musicians from these scenes, most notably Puerto-Rican Guitarist Carlos Alomar, as well as Luther Vandross, who features on various side vocals. 

If "Fame" is, well, the most...famous track of the LP (and David first true hit with the US audience), the song "Young Americans" is extremely groovy as well, with its anthem-like chorus hard to resist.

Here is my "DJ-friendly" drummed-up edit of it.

One of the many recordings of Chaka Khan with Chicago band Rufus, "Live In Me" is part of their 1979 album "Masterjam", produced by Quincy Jones. 

Warm and groovy, this song is also a bit "cheesy" to me by moments, so here is a nudisco rework, where I kept the grooviest parts while adding some punchier beats & bassline.

A Soul, Funk & R&B singer, multi-instrumentalist, producer and arranger, Leroy Hutson is probably slighltly less well known than the Marvin, Donny or Curtis of this world. He's nonetheless a cornerstone of this legendary 70's music scene.
