Idle Cellars is back & our latest mix is from the Bay Area’s Dub Disco Dons 40 Thieves! Our hometown heroes are faves of Harvey and Weatherall alike, with releases for labels like Rong Music & Permanent Vacation, including their massive hit covering Hot Chocolate’s “Don’t Turn It Off”! Well-known for having a sporadic release schedule, our Thieves landed at Leng Records for the past decade or so and we can expect some new music from the boys coming soon!

For this mix they’ve pulled out all the stops for a tour-de-force of all the delectable things that makes a Thief a Thief - stripped-down Paradise Garage-brand disco and boogie jams, secret Italo groovers, chuggy slo-mo bangers and more, viewed through the hazy lens of Dub - always a smokers’ delight! We think this is the sound of the summer, so up the bass & treble, skin up and enjoy!

Joe Morris seemed to come out of nowhere until I realized he was in front of me all along, as part of the Clandestino crew who put out a handful of nu-balearic joints on wax that I was checking in the late teens and on 12” singles for quirky & adventuresome labels like Pleasure Unit, Is It Balearic? & Wonder Stories. When his 2019 full-length album Exotic Language launched Joe’s Shades Of Sound label and a collab with local homie Cole Odin, I was all-in! SOS has been firing on all cylinders recently, and when Joe reached out we realized he’d be perfect for the first international guest on the mix series since the relaunch. 

A lovely journey through languid afternoons on a hot beach, nostalgic throwbacks to the good old days, obscure 80s blue-eyed funk, AOR groovers, foreign versions of beloved heaters, heady ambience, some Spanish guitar (natch!) and a heap of Balearic feelings are what this mix is all about. Perfect vibes for the final lights of Summer! Thanks Joe for the mix and we hope you enjoy.

Idle Cellars is back with another chiller killer for your Autumn revelry! This time around we’ve got another stellar mix from West Coast pioneer, Bay Area Rave legend & Cali breakbeat progenitor DJ SPUN! Responsible for breaking breaks in SF in the early 90s, punk rock bandleader in the early 80s, disco mastermind in the early 00’s - the man has been there, done that, whether via his label Rong Music, curating events at PS1 in NYC with the cream of club culture, humbly embodying some of the greatest DJ skills in the world, let alone the US (and let alone California!). 

His resume is far too long to list here, but he’s given us this fantastic mix for horizontal grooving that he’s titled “Idle Dub…Idle Chug”. Spun commented: “For fall and winter I usually switch to red wine…So this mix marked the start of the season and is a testament to the effect of a bottle of red!” Say no more squire! 

As usual, we’re in love with this journey through music, a gentle nudge from wonderful ambience through some late-night dubby funk on a slo-mo tip, keeping things musical and in outerspace!

Camilo’s super-eclecticism makes this mix something special as he flits from genre to genre, language to language, making the world of music the ingredients for a heady, relaxing & delicious cocktail.. Seasons greetings! We're closing out 2024 with a selector that perhaps needs no further introduction, but in case you've been living under a rock for the past 15 years, we are extremely excited to present the next Idle Cellars mix by the one and only EDDIE C! Mr. C (NOT THAT ONE) is, in our esteemed opinion, one of the best DJ's in the entire world and we're crazy stoked to have him as the next IC mix for your listening pleasure. Canada-born & Berlin-bred, Eddie has been gallivanting all over the globe as a musical expert in a world of tourists, ready to spread good vibes and his sparkling personality (plus that Canadian politeness we always hear about) to the four corners of the planet. 

His resume is, frankly, ridiculous. As a producer and "editor", Eddie is responsible for countless fantastic releases across disco edit labels like his own RED MOTORBIKE, COMMON EDIT, 7 INCHES OF LOVE, KOLOUR LTD, SLEAZY BEATS, LUMBERJACKS IN HELL and many, many more, plus he's been fully embraced by the Japanese contingent with many releases on MULE sublabel ENDLESS FLIGHT as well as CRUE-L & SOUNDOFSPEED. The man's discography as a producer is as wide as it is deep and he continues to be extremely active with new remixes or originals coming out regularly.

DJ-wise our boy has the chops to be dropped into any situation and rock the party, whether that's at Cafe Del Mar, Panoramabar, the Sunset Campout or dodgy mafia-run nightclubs in deepest Eastern Europe. To put it succinctly, he is...THE MAN. 

We think Eddie C is a perfect closer to our year. Thanks for coming along with us on these journeys, and we hope you can give us a subscribe and stay tuned - we have some seriously cool things happening for 2025 so don't sleep, and have a wonderful holiday season and New Year. Happy 2025 to all the Idlers out there! We're back with our first mix missive of the year - and it's a doozy. When it comes to edit records, so much has already been done. These London-based boys decided to ditch the well-trod paths of Disco, Boogie & Soul to dive headfirst into the devil's maw that is American Rock & Country music, making some of the best we’d heard in awhile, subtly turning some of the stodgiest 60's & 70's shitkicker jams into glorious glitterball anthems. The fact that they're kickass DJ's to boot made this decision a no-brainer! Ladies & germs, please welcome to the Idle Cellars Mix Series stable - Flying Mojito Bros! These two fine gents were extremely gracious - if not eager! - to tackle the Idle Cellars brief and we all have hit the jackpot. Presenting "Americana Pacifica" - we would call it Balearica re-imagined through the lens of US AOR, soft rock, country and more. Accompanying the mix is this message from FMB:

Rugged, saline guitar jams and sea-smoothed rock – from really recent finds to long-cherished shoreline treasures once popped in our pockets for another day, another day.
