Here is a collection of tracks I came across over the year 2016: music by women artists that rocks my foundation.
From the pathfinder Arctic Windhorse in Alaska, via the streets of Argentina that Pulpa de Luz walks, the exquisite sounds from Mari Jürjens in Estonia and the mysterious poetry Miraela dreams in Romenia. The Austrian rap that Augenmerk makes lets you notice small things differently in your day to day life, and with the grooves of Band Ane, Yasynhta, Priss, Cio d' Or and Feathers you can just keep going on forever.
No matter the bullshit from the powermen this past year, these ladies make it all good...

Coroana, transparentă, diamant rece şi tare
Cum toamna trece, vraja lui apare

Părul, gri, ca nori de rău augur în depărtare 
Nici un supus nu mai oferă apărare

Ochii, albaştri, ca cerul gol deasupra
Epoca aceasta singura iubire a sa

Roba, de argint, împodobită cu ţurţuri, sclipitoare 
Diafană capa curgând cu vântul ce poartă creştinare

Domnia, sceptru de gheaţă în mână tinând
La voia sa fulgii cad pe pământ.
Din înalt dezlănțuind puterea în rafale cristaline
Cad pe pământ plânsele sale lacrime

Cele de fericire şi cele de durere 
Cristalizate în aer rece ploua ele

Privind în jos peste împărăţia sa 
Domeniul său e definit cu gheaţa

Zăpada, neculoare, aşa de pură şi curată 
Şi încă ştie timpul său va trebui să treacă

Natura efemeră îi e urgie

»sleepstep« is the first collaboration between raster-noton and dasha rush. the record‘s subtitle »sonar poems for my sleepless friends« describes its underlying concept – »sleepstep« is a trip through electronically alienated microcompositions and sound collages that, interwoven with text passages, aim at creating a dream-like atmosphere.

the stations of this journey are striving for oblivion of time, an immersion, a drifting in universal states – death, life, birth, grief, desire. the titles often appear to be raw sketches, fugitive, surreal short stories that rather want to break open than execute.

the musical arrangement, in this context, can be described as rather subtle and fragile. though electronically manipulated, no production technique is pushing itself to the fore. and though clichés are not dreaded, »sleepstep«, as a result, stays away from being cliché. the sonar poems for her sleepless friends are feminine, subtle and personal reports. a musical dream journey in the form of a classical concept record – an album that also stands in the tradition of ambient music.

dasha rush is already known as a techno dj and producer. here on »sleepstep«, she celebrates her alter ego. the cd version comes with a 32-pages booklet that also shows her photographic interest and includes the aforementioned poems written by her. furthermore there is 2 x 12" vinyl version.

"ñoqui" its an expression in Argentina used to describe a lazy statal worker. A person who doesn`t work at the statal offices. 

In january 2016 there where 800 people fired from the Cultural Ministry in Buenos Aires, acussed of being ñoquis.

This lyrics came out based on the rage caused by this attack against our human rights that garanteed the acces to Culture

Ambient Poetry, new thing in our repetoire... listen to 'Soul Fury' as well.
A bit dark starting point, but ulimately it is about love, tenderness and the strength to be true. Snippets of a speech by Pema Chödrön which she held in Sept 1999 titled: "What are we afraid of?". 

Music created and played by Marcel, Tjalling's drone was transplanted entirely from our track "Under the Surface", and the whole thing was  re-mixed and 'spiced' by Mike (finally, he did not use that bass drum!).
Still don't know if you should play this first and then Under the Surface, or the other way around... what do you think?

"This is how the heart sounds,

This is the second version of Soul Fury that we produce as our statement of universal love for music. 
Karin Tarabochia (Augenmerk on SC, Austria)translated the opening lines of the 13th century Rumi poem into her own German-Austrian words, and made her delicate delivery to go with Miraela's voice and our MATJAMI music.
The original Soul Fury can be found on the MATJAMI track list as well, with more details to the why and how we do this.

MATJAMI: Acoustic-electronic soundscapes, deep beats, slow trance, empty space: meditation by listening and playing. 
Tip: Use good speakers or headphones to enjoy the rich, deep sounds and binaural recordings.

We three at MATJAMI (Marcel Bode, Tjalling de Leeuw, Mike de Leeuw) develop our sounds and grooves as we interact live, using our bronze, wooden and stringed instruments, (Balinese gamelan & gongs, bowls, Tibetan horns, Chinese guxing & gongs, Javanese kendang drums, timpani, beer bottles) with Native electronics, samples and live loops. The quality and the texture of our sounds are at least as important as the composition. 
We play our sessions 'on the fly', where one of us starts and the rest comes in at leisure... All you hear here was recorded live, with only some simple stereo and eq mixing afterwards.
We love to perform in open areas, theaters, level stage, and spaces with a special feel to them; a small audience is just as nice.
Recently we started collaborating with other audio-artists like VictorYibril, Fintan O'Brien and Phlip Smith (G.A.), Miraela, and Augenmerk, combining their very different music styles, field recordings and soundscapes with our beats and sounds.
