The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.

Essential Mix 2008-01-19 - TC

Old Breaks Mixes Volume 5 is again about the early Nu Skool Breaks sounds from the late 90's to 2000's with lots of atmospheres and resampled amen breakbeats. Tunes from old favourites such as T-Power, Waveform and some early more solid tracks from Evil Nine and General Midi plus a bunch of others that have been lost in time.

Representing the vibrant Kyiv scene, Kichi Kazuko @kichi_kazuko established herself as one of the most prolific female DJs and producers from Ukraine. Drawing inspiration from Japanese culture, Kichi means 'kind' while Kazuko is a 'cheerful child' that accurately reflects her inner nature. 

Inna actively engages in the global techno scene, gracing stages like the Boiler Room and contributing music to reputable labels, including her imprint Kazuko Music. Despite her deep involvement in techno culture, Kichi Kazuko's heart remains dedicated to underground genres such as drum'n'bass and electro. 

Today, we are excited to unveil another facet of Kichi Kazuko represented in the freshly recorded Outcast050 and dedicated to her unique perspective on drum & bass music.

Last year our favourite producer Kohra released 3 great tracks, we put together a minimix of them and Rennie Pilgrem remastered his archive, his debut album Selected Werks 1995 - 2000 was essential and we play 4 tracks from it at the end of the show!

This mix brings together recent work by producers from many corners of the world, but its title isn't about nailing down a specific contemporary sound. It's personal. With the arrival of our second daughter, my emotions are running high, and I’m once again in awe of the miracle of nature. I was looking for a natural accent in this selection, maybe with a bit of a psychedelic touch. Because that is my sound of today.

When I made this selection, I realised that the tracks come from very different parts of the globe and I decided to include the producers' locations in the tracklisting. I believe that where music is made adds a unique flavor to its universal language.

This is a re-recorded set from the Fuchs2 (Prague) Season Opening on 7 September 2024. I had the honour of playing the opening set on the Bike Jesus "Bass Freaks" stage, marking my first performance as a resident of the club. I had a lot of fun. Since the original mix was not recorded live, I decided to reconstruct it while it was still fresh in my mind.
