Kubota Mantarō (1889 – 1963) was a Japanese author, playwright and Japanese poet. Although he was more interested in novels and plays, Kubota published several haiku collections and for a while was editor of the haiku magazine Shunto.

The Assignment: Record the first third of a trio.

Conceive the piece as something that leaves room for something else — other instruments, other people — to join in. (Keep in mind that your piece resulting from this week’s project will be panned to the left in the second and third weeks of this sequence.)

Step 3: Record a short piece of music, roughly two to three minutes in length, as described in Step 2.

Step 4: This is important: be sure to make your track downloadable because it may be used by someone else in the next Disquiet Junto project, and the one after that.

The Assignment: Record the final third of a trio.

I just wanted to play bass on something because it felt like it had been a while since I picked up my bass.  The third part of this project always felt like the right time for basslines too.  I don't really like when the low end is panned hard left or right to be honest.  It feels unbalanced to me.  Anyway, Torpid and Coraline's beautiful piece from last week really stuck out to me so it was an easy choice.  I liked writing counter point to Torpid's fills at the end of the measure.  Hope I didn't funk it up too much

In “before you were or any hearts to beat,” Chair House captures the ephemeral pulse arising from stillness, crystallizing it into notes.
