We owe a lot of our musical influence to our boys Yanick & Zack from Bells & Whistles. Originally hailing from Switzerland & Russia and transplanted in San Diego, these were some of the first guys that really started turning us onto true underground dance music. They opened our eyes to a whole new world of music and for that we're forever thankful. The boys eventually moved to San Francisco for the music scene, but when we finally started DH we knew we wanted to bring them on board as Resident DJs and eventually Desert Hearts Records Artists. With an incredible Bells & Whistles EP coming soon on the label, we hope you enjoy this spacey trip through Friday night at our 2 Year Anniversary Festival.

What's up Desert Hearts Family,

I'm so excited to release my set from Desert Hearts Festival 2024. This fest marked the 12th year of Desert Hearts and the dawn of a new era at our home in Flagstaff, AZ. It's been a rocky and uncertain 5 years for us since losing our venue during the pandemic, but DHF 2024 was the great reset button as we threw, in my opinion, the best and most special festival we've ever thrown. The vibe and the magic were untouchable. I might be biased, but I've always said I'd put Desert Hearts Fest up against any party in the world, and for four days, I believe we achieved that. What's scary to think about is how much better next year is going to be now that we've got our bearings under us at the new venue...

Here at SoundPark, we've always felt strongly about showcasing brands along with the people behind these concepts that contribute to their regional nightlife culture in a real way. It’s a collective process that involves the coordination of plenty of people to put it together. Artists need to make incredible music. Labels need to release this music. Both management and booking agencies work in tandem ensuring their artists are performing at the best shows possible. The event organizer needs to have the vision to pair amazing music with an equally amazing setting. The venue needs to offer incredible sound, a place with a captivating atmosphere, where people feel welcome. The ones who do this right create wonderful experiences that will leave the audience simply buzzing. Music can be an incredibly rich experience that can affect you in powerful ways. When we first discovered Patrick Muller aka Patlac, it was an unbelievable combination of all these elements. This is why we hold this tastemaker in such a high regard. His sound is an amazing blend of punchy hypnotic hooks that share both melodic and groovy overtones. His performances are always exciting journeys that carry energy but never lose that delicate balance of harmony from track to track. SoundPark was excited to sit down with the Hamburg native to discuss his particular style of music when both performing and when writing in the studio as well as some perspective on dealing with stressors that come along with growing notoriety on a global level. We still can't believe our Spring Festival crept up on us so fast! Four months of preparation and working round the clock and it's finally upon us! This is the first time in the history of Desert Hearts that we will be returning to a location 2 times in a row and we can't tell you how excited we are for that. Despite our 2 Year Anniversary Festival being one of the most legendary parties of all time, we've had the chance to dial our Spring Festival to heights you wouldn't believe. You can expect more art, more love, and our best dance floor vibe yet. This is our 6th Desert Hearts Festival so we've really gotten the hang of it how to do it proper. This isn't just another meaningless party. This is about finding a new kind of freedom. This is about a place where you reach your mental breaking point and come to a realization that is meaningful at exactly the right place and exactly the right time. Desert Hearts is about coming together in love, collectively, individually, and spiritually. This is about the healing of land and souls. This is about touching heaven, even if only for just a few days. What we are doing is real. It's more real and more true than anything we've ever been privileged enough to be a part of. It's time to wake up into a dream world where real life is mystically blissful--to a place where we won't ever want to fall asleep because reality is finally better than our wildest dreams. Part of the Hamburg based @jeudirecords family, @doctordru has been cooking up a storm on dancefloors across the world with his melancholic yet highly danceable house music.

His latest release is "The Grain EP" which drops June 1st on Beatport(iTunes, Juno, etc.:15.06.2015) and we can give you the exclusive premiere of the B-side track "The Pattern". A track that hypnotizes the listener with a moody and funky synthline that stands against subtle horns incorporated with a steady, pulsating deep house beat.

There are few DJs out there who's music, reputation, and overall passion for life precedes them in such a way that when you finally meet them for the first time, it's like "Oh my god, I think we're already friends!" That is exactly how meeting Phillip Jung from M.A.N.D.Y. was at our Spring Festival 2015.  We've been huge fans of Phillip's music for as long as we can remember... We've watched the way he vibes with the crowd during his sets at Burning Man and countless other gigs, and we just knew he was going to be a perfect fit for Desert Hearts. If you give the dude a hug and talk with him for 5 minutes, you'll discover why he's been at the top of the House & Techno game for so many years. He's a vibe master, a soul controller, and one hell of a DJ. So here's to Phillip taking us back to midnight on Friday at our Spring Festival. Easily one of our favorite sets of the festival, we're all about to fall in love with M.A.N.D.Y. all over again. <3 <3 <3

"The Do Lab has always been a major source of inspiration for me in my adult life. My first transformational festival was Lightning In A Bottle 2011 and it completely changed my life. The festival had such a profound impact on me that I actually took my parents to LIB 2012 when I played The Woogie Stage for the first time. That weekend was a turning point in my life as it was the weekend I realized I had enough talent to DJ for a living if I went for it 100%. I felt so inspired that I went home, quit my job, and started my own 3 day festival and events production company, Desert Hearts, with my best friends and family.  In 2014, I was lucky enough that The Do Lab asked me to play their stage at Coachella, a super surreal experience for me since Coachella 2006 was the festival that kickstarted my intense passion for music. 

I consider myself very fortunate to have witnessed the growth of The Do Lab and Lightning In A Bottle first hand.  I can't even begin to tell you how insane it was playing LIB 2015. The first time I played The Woogie Stage in 2012, there was about 50 people on the dance floor when I started my set. I can tell you I got the biggest goosebumps of my life when I stepped up and saw over 1000 people in the crowd at The Woogie in 2012. 

I want to thank The Do Lab, Jesse Wright & Sammy Bliss from The Woogie, and everyone else who's believed in me as an artist and helped me grow. I didn't think Woogie Weekend was in the cards for me this year... and just like that I'm back to where it all started. "

Desert Hearts was one of the proudest moments in my entire life.  It was a lifetime of work that culminated in a 900+ person campout of 60 hours of House & Techno on the best Funktion 1 system we could find.  We added in all of our favorite Burning Man camps and before we knew it we had something Southern California had never seen before.  A full blown hippy gathering dedicated to House, Techno, and Love.  I can't even begin to describe the feeling when my inbox filled up with messages from people saying Desert Hearts changed their life... Unbelievably humbling is an understatement... ♥

To all of my Desert Hearts out there, I love you guys from the deepest part of my soul! Thank you all for contributing so much and making it a truly unforgettable experience! 

Our next gathering is called Tropical Hearts and will have talent the likes of Jimpster, Christian Martin, Safeword, Android Cartel, and many more for 48 hours of loving Funktion 1 bliss!

In doing so, Lion and his signature top hat have developed a boisterous voice in the House & Techno scene with strong tribal, hip-hop, and psychedelic elements.

But it all started with Wu-Tang and Daft Punk. Lion first found his way behind the decks as a thirteen year old kid, scratching underground hip-hop records religiously after school. At Coachella as a seventeen year old, he witnessed that legendary Daft Punk performance on the same night he tasted his first dose of psychedelics. The show had such a monumental impact on him, he gave up Hip-Hop and became a House DJ the very next day.

After honing his craft with weekly marathon DJ sessions at Sala Razzmatazz in Barcelona, Mikey was introduced to Burner culture at Lightning in a Bottle, 2011. It was at his first Burning Man in 2011 that he found a community calling and merged forces with his brother Porkchop, life long friends Marbs & Deep Jesus, and the inimitable Lee Reynolds to form The Desert Hearts Crew.

In November 2012, Desert Hearts began as a seedy, 200-person renegade gathering deep in the Mojave Desert. The intrepid crew barely survived a set of extreme weather conditions and unfortunate circumstances, but that first party sparked a fire. The entire point of that first Desert Hearts was to create as much love as humanly possible, and now that same gathering has evolved into the darling of the West Coast house and techno scene. The Bi-annual festival is capped at 3500 attendees in order to create the best possible vibe. Built upon beautiful people getting as weird as possible to deep and trippy house and techno, Desert Hearts has already achieved iconic status in the North American Festival Scene. 

Desert Hearts has given rise to a family of thousands and it's safe to call it a bonafide movement of love. And while Desert Hearts Records launched in 2014 as a totally-free record label, pushes the sonic aesthetic of the scene, the crew’s busy international calendar of bookings has the DH message spreading far and wide. At the center of it all is Mikey Lion, the dusty prince of desert hearts, a beacon of weird far and wide, and one of this generation’s most compelling agents of love.
