3 QUESTIONS to NINA HEPBURN:

Q: Getting into the mood for your mix: How did you choose these tracks and how did they influence your career?

A: My voyage towards "How I Met The Bass" starts at the end of my set. Beginning with Blümchen in my childhood. Then my first encounter and love for Drum n Bass with Rudimental in Australia and the arguably greatest Trance hit of all time "Lasgo" at the club in my hometown. I will always remember these songs. My first experiences with Techno were the wonderful Open Airs in Hamburg. Grünanlage with Moonbootica and Kollektiv Turmstraße or Claptone at Uebel & Gefaehrlich. That' s why I have a few Tech-House tracks in my set, which I learned to love in the early days of listening to Techno and also played when I started DJing. This led to me getting more and more into the music, going to many festivals and listening to many DJs play. One of my favorite tracks was Solidary Daze by Maceo Plex. Artists like Kölsch, DJ Koze, Alan Fitzpatrick inspired me as well. I started to go in the melancholic, melodic direction. Over time I found my personal favorite sound that moved me. This is how I selected tracks for my sets. 

Q: Would you still play those tracks and why?

A: Yes definitely, maybe not all of them but anything that goes into the melodic direction are still tracks that I strongly relate to and would also bring into my sets. Perhaps I should put the tracks on my USB stick again. There are certainly many people in the audience who remember them. After all, it wasn't that long ago.

Q: Which projects are you currently working on and what can we expect from you soon?

A: I'm ending the wonderful and exciting year 2022 with a remix for Avidus, which will be released on their own label Empore Music. For me it’s an honor cause I really admire Avidus as artists and felt so so happy when they asked me. You can also expect more music from me soon. I'm still working on new tracks and constantly developing myself in music production. So there is a lot more to come.

At the beginning of February I was invited by a small but nice collective to play in a place called Wetter, where apparently I didn't really know anyone 🙃 When the evening came and I got there, there were many familiar faces that I had met over the past summer and it was really a great pleasure to play in this circle of beautiful souls🙏❤️ A recording was also made that evening, again with the atmosphere of the audience, and with that I would like to share this wonderful night with you.🤗

Saturday night at the Fusion Festival, Stimming has just played a dark & stormy set. The Bachstelzen floor is something like a looney zoo and i am at the centre dressed in my jail break outfit in control for the next 2 hours.

Massive thanks to all the crew at Bachstelzen for such a wonderful production and to the fantastic crowd for screaming, shouting and all the wild dance moves. The vibe of the set was one to be remember.

Die Wurzeln des Melodic-Techno-Duos Pauke Schaumburg sind im Landkreis Schaumburg bei Hannover zu finden. Nils alias Nobby wohnt noch dort und Ken alias Kenno hat es ein paar Kilometer weiter nach Obernkirchen verschlagen. Nils hört privat viel deutschsprachigen Indie-Rock und -Pop wie z.B. Olli Schulz, Tocotronic und Faber. Im Nachtleben muss es aber schon melodischer Techno sein. Ken hört allgemein schon gerne, was er entweder selber produziert oder halt alles, was sich in dem Style bewegt. Ansonsten gerne auch mal Movie-Score-Komponisten wie Hans Zimmer oder Max Richter. Und ja, Bossa Nova beim Kochen gemeinsam mit seiner Frau. 

Ken kam so um 1995 zum ersten Mal mit elektronischer Musik in Berührung: „Viva Club Rotation“ hieß die Sendung und über den Euro-Dance schlitterte er in die Trance-Music. Trance war somit für ihn prägend – Künstler wie Talla 2XLC, Taucher oder Tom Wax. Aber auch Berliner wie WestBam, Ravers Nature oder Hardy Hard waren zu der Zeit seine Helden. Nils hat Mitte der 90er ein Tape mit der Aufnahme einer „HR3 Clubnight“ mit Mark Spoon in die Finger bekommen. Da war‘s dann um ihn geschehen. 

Danach wollte Nils nichts anderes, als mal aufzulegen – leider fehlte immer das Geld. Anfang der 2000er ging es dann aber los. Ken kaufte sich 1996, mit 14 Jahren, ein Mischpult und die ersten Plattenspieler – natürlich alles von Reloop (Riemenantrieb, yeah). Danach war erst einmal üben, üben und nochmals üben angesagt, bevor er sich auf den ersten Privatpartys präsentieren durfte. Obwohl seine ersten Gehversuche für Musikproduktionen bereits mit 14 Jahren auf einem Amiga 600 stattfanden, ging das ernsthafte Produzieren dann erst 2010 mit dem Start von Pauke Schaumburg los.

Zu einem ihrer musikalischen Highlights, was das Producing angeht, zählen sie ganz klar den Moment, als Dirty Doering ihren ersten Katermukke-Release gesigned hat. Und jene Momente, wenn neue Veröffentlichungen anstehen: „Das ist ein ganz wichtiger Moment, wenn man neue Musik vor Publikum testet“, so Ken. Neben Pauke Schaumburg ist er gerade dabei, ein neues Sideproject aufzubauen, welches sich Odd Chapters nennt. Dabei geht es dann mehr um Musik, die sich um die 115 BPM bewegt. „Ich produziere halt auch gerne langsameres Zeug und möchte das in Zukunft stilistisch von Pauke Schaumburg trennen“, sagt Ken. 

Leben müssen die beiden zum Glück – in Corona-Zeiten ja leider angebrachte Worte – nicht von der Musik, denn sie sind beide in einem festen Arbeitsverhältnis und machen die Musik „nur“ nebenbei, dafür aber so viel wie möglich und zudem extrem gut.
