A Deepmix Journey

Markus Wilwerscheid from Cologne has been on the decks behind the DJ pseudonym “Domrauschen”(ex: Soundwiese) since
the summer of 1992, spinning round LPs on turntables of similar shape. Like a field dotted with different flowers, Soundwiese represents a colourful mix of sounds. It is a series of deep mixes, consisting of many different sub-genres that are regularly updated with new club and studio mixes, as well as podcasts.

Soundwiese steht für die bunte Vielfalt aller Sounds, wie Blumen auf einer Wiese. Soundwiese ist eine elektronische Deep Mix Serie, bestehend aus vielen verschiedenen Subgenres, welche ich regelmäßig mit meinen Mixen aus Club, Studio- und Podcasts bestücke.

Initiate concept is born from a passion for boundary pushing electronic music. We want to move away from trends of instant gratification to explore club music and its intersections with other forms of musical expression.
 
The sound we wish to share with you makes us dance, pause, reflect and meditate. It takes us away and transports us.
 
What drives us is the exploration of fine tuned sounds that come together to create holistic pieces of music, inducing various states of consciousness.
 
Initiate provides a wholesome space for self-reflection, for bonding with others and for musical discoveries that will challenge your ears and dance moves alike!

Christopher Landin has a background in visual arts, working mainly with photography and installation. He started to experiment with sound in order to further expand his understanding of space, not as a tangible thing but as an inner landscape. Using field recordings gathered in remote locations, he sets simple systems in motion with the intention of them gradually building complex atmospheric results.

Kendra Morris recalls singers who straddled soul and rock during the early '70s, such as Ruth Copeland and Chaka Khan, while her contemporaries include the likes of Mayer Hawthorne, Alice Russell, and Leela James. Morris's musical taste was developed through her parents' record collection, a library heavy on late-60s and early-70s soul and funk. During her childhood Morris's main companion was her karaoke machine, which she also used for the sake of recording. While enrolled in college in Tampa, FL, she became so involved in performing with bands that she decided to leave behind her studies and take on music full time. She took up the guitar, as well as songwriting, and eventually involved herself with a band, Pinktricity, which moved to New York in 2003 and split shortly thereafter. Morris took to recording songs on her own, and self-released a pair of EPs: This Won't Hurt a Bit (2007) and Milk and Cookies Never Lie (2008). Her first proper recording, a self-titled EP (2010), was recorded with producer and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Page (of That Handsome Devil). After touring with legendary guitarist Dennis Coffey and releasing a series of singles which included "Concrete Waves," whose b-side was remixed by DJ Premier, Morris released the album Banshee (2012) on Wax Poetics. In 2013, Morris returned with the covers album Mockingbird.

Both Banshee and Mockingbird received critical acclaim and a cult following, with several film + tv placements. The title track "Banshee" was used prominently in the Showtime hit series Ray Donovan, while her cover of Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" found itself in the trailer for major motion picture Dead Man Down. 

In between extensive international touring and promotion for Banshee throughout 2013 and 2014, Morris worked on a small side project band with friends Scarlett Johansson, Julia Haltigan and Holly Miranda, releasing one single called "Candy."  After taking some time to write and record her follow up EP titled Babble, Kendra Morris returned with its release June of 2016 to great reviews. 2017 she has been releasing brand new tracks on a consistent basis and playing often. Keep your eyes peeled for new exciting things!

I have experienced a wide variety of electronic genres and styles during my musical biography, which began in the '80s as a teen with Post-punk and Darkwave. My taste evolved further with Ska, Reggae, Jungle, Drum 'n' Bass, and Techno. Reggae and Jamaican Soundsystem Culture also had a big influence on me after visiting Jamaica twice in the late '90s.

Dub Techno took on a very special role for me because of its introverted, meditative quality, which fits my current mindset very well.

Music is therefore much more than entertainment to me; it has shaped my personality and provides a great source of energy.

This is exactly what I aim to convey in my mixes: An invitation to get lost in dubby soundscapes—a space for grounding, recovery, and reflection.
