It was originally recorded as an acoustic demo at Berklee in 1996 (available on this profile) when I was living in Massachusetts and frequented Boston as a singer-songwriter.  It was recorded again a few months later with a full band as an MP&E major's (David Colozzi) production final with special permission from the school. This song was epic on the Berklee campus for about 2 years.  It became associated with me, and truly took on a life of its own!

If you've been following along with the iterations of this song, you'll notice in the description for the 1996 full band version I mentioned the fact that the room we rehearsed in was where Dream Theater rehearsed. Well, when I live in NY, and moved to Long Island and started the band Neeto, we would rehearse under a deli in Rockville Center lovingly named, "The Meat Pit." One day during rehearsal, the owner came down and said, "You know, this is the room Dream Theater used to rehearse in, it's got good energy."
We looked around the room with old carpet on the walls for sound absorption and thought thoughts. My thoughts? I had two: "I wonder if this rusty red 1970s carpet was the same carpet they breathed into." and "I rehearsed in Dream Theater's room of choice at Berklee College six years ago!" Some memories.

I wrote this one in Boston in 1998 when I hated my day job.  I quit that job, but walked away with this nugget.  In 2003, I was noodling on this song during a 3am recording session and the engineer asked me if I wanted to lay this track down for the hell of it.  So I played through the guitar track and then layed the vocal on immediately after.  I was a full-time smoker at the time of this recording. Today I could NEVER record a song at 3am after having smoked a half a pack of cigarettes.  NEVER.  I've been smoke free since 2006.

MIM PAQUIN (she/her) is a dynamic New York-based award-winning actress, voice actor, singer, composer and writer across all media.
