An experimental TV news theme loop for use as an intro and background music throughout.

I wanted to make a generic original loop for a spoof news project in early 2012. As yet the show itself doesn't exist, but watch this space.

You're the one that speeds up at the yellow

the one who will cut in line

the one whose business is more important

the one who will boast of their bose and still push others aside for a hand out

the one to whom every toast should be most

vicarious vanity permeating your every arrogant stride

caring not for others denied, no matter how hard they tried

if you said you ever cared, you know you lied

 

yeah, we have you pegged

 

the one who will belittle those surrounding to gain a higher mental peg

for your self, to stand not only on the backs of others but on the arms and legs

and throats...armed with a deflective wit,

the failure to resonate the flaws in ones self 

mastered to the point of a fine art

some may say you don't have a heart,

well, do you? i'd say you do...whether or not you want to

 

yeah, we have you pegged.

 

your ego is over inflated to make up for the scarring and pain you would feel if you actually felt

if you actually opened up

so you isolae your self, separate and disconnect

pulled the plug and stepped back from the pack to attempt to disintegrate the feelings of self hate

the precious pretense to which you cling for dear life

inded it perpetuates your strife, stripping away what little remains in your scarred shell

 

yeah, we have you pegged

 

instead of boasting the most...

showing off the superfluous fillers of your vacuous holes

clutching at per-concieved stereotype,

pathetic "blanket judgements"

and whatever else helps you "pigeon hole"

lets pretend you have a soul,

imagine it

 

...just STOP...

 

now think about the people around you,

how do they feel,

think of the old lady you cut off this morning,

or the kid you barged past in the street

they had places to be, people to meet

but into your reality they had no feet....

 

think of the corporate agendas your cog wheel keeps on track

the third world's children and mothers,under threat of attack

bleeding fingers to the bone, breaking their backs

for your designer brand names,

made at cut price with an inflated R.R.P.

 

yeah, we got you pegged...

(perhaps you feel you too have we we)

 

...well, how do you feel now

 

do you feel alive or dead

take of the mask and the shit stained ego-lenses

see the shared society we inhabit,

for all its pain and prejudice

it also has hope and glory

 

welcome to the world, fellow being

 

stay awake, no time left to waste with fake

whenever your falling, here's my hand to take

 

...now...

 

...do you have us pegged?

and do any of us still feel that we know you?

 

hopefully both questions can be met with an unanswered I.O.U.

GOING PUBLIC 5.17.13 - "Love Song," by William Carlos Williams

Poets slip under my defenses by different means. Some pack a powerful punch, especially at the end...they can turn a phrase in such a way that I find myself somewhat destroyed before my brain has caught up with the meaning of the words. And some just sum up what I'm experiencing so perfectly, I have no choice but to allow them in.

But there are those, like William Carlos Williams, Lawrence, e.e. cummings Neruda...those who slip in on a visceral level. They create work that seems to soak into your skin, make you feel something on a physical level. 

So this poem. Hmm. I don't even know exactly what Williams is really trying to say - and I don't need to. I just feel something slide over me, around me, slip under my defenses and float along in my bloodstream. That's a whole lot of power for a poet to have.

A burning farewell (burning bodies)

We can’t afford the sun

and we yearned for something deeper tangled betwe en bed sheets 
but our palms were always split open, spilling malice.
our bodies, always in dire separation
even in scalding proximity. 


You never know who someone is until they use you-
-r Kitchen

i tell a lot of lies. 


How do I know you are safe?

the following: 


You shed your clothing on the stone
How happy the surrounding earth was
I can say this with expertise in the subject
Of female geophysics

we curled ourselves alongside icicles to bury the flames. 

my waist still feels like a graveyard.
even after all the times you tasted my bone marrow,
you still have the nerve to say i’m not bitter.

Inhaling dandruff and aphids 
Dizzy decisions Stringy and
Lost, like decapitated balloons 

our mansion is burning from the inside out 
and we force-feed the desire with 
prolonged gestures and held-breaths.

your lungs are bruised.


You taste like a thousand salts
Like a thousand omens or just one wet
Jellyfish

our combined scar tissue lies in a heap on the floor of our shrine
and the skin is nearly poison when we add our cancelled convictions. 

You wore flower in your hair large enough where
You were leaning just to stand up straight

i tore myself apart until all my limbs
seeped into the dirt and sprung dandelions. 
neither of our backbones found forgiveness.


I'd like to think my father left me to raise myself to be a better man
But I'm bitter, man
Because my mother named me after a bottle of whiskey
And abandoned me by sticking around

we are hiding in the crevices of bedrooms
behind locked doors
underneath all the fight we never knew we had.


I abandoned you by sticking around
Like how sapphire skies segregate cloud from sun

this is how smiles tear:

my teeth are lodged in your ribcage.


like a lapel marked with a darkened skin pin

your tongue is the lump in my throat i’ve been trying to clear.


Congested candles trying to pierce the night

our lips are too busy deciding what to say 


I’m an orphan constantly reminded I’m never too far from homes

to tell us what to do next


I can’t really read into you
The hollow pigment of scribbled magic fading on a soggy playground

and our bodies are empty with each other’s promises.
