Rising out of Germany’s electronic underground and making his microcastle debut is Yubik. Based in Munich and conceptualized in 2018, the Yubik project has achieved measurable success in relatively short order. Initial releases courtesy of MoBlack and Stil Vor Talent set the course for well received projects via Atlant, Oddity and Radikon. Seemingly in constant evolution, the German artist’s ingenious scope has continued to grow and mature as 2021 reaches its second quarter, opening up endless creative avenues and furthering his boundless appeal. With his latest Atlant vehicle ‘The Veil’ getting the year underway in style and forthcoming music signed to Adana Twins’ TAU imprint, Yubik continues his explorative path with his microcastle debut ‘Riot Romance’.

Comprised of four distinctive and equally compelling creations, it is the charming melodies of ‘Face The Truth’ which get the release underway. Instantly seductive, it’s robust breakbeats and buoyant rhythms marry perfectly with spacious percussion and fragmented vocals. Coming to full fruition during the second act, Yubik’s musical prowess is on full display, as a memorable melodic lead rises, conjuring up bucolic imagery while remaining undeniably infectious across a spirited finale. Selection two ‘Riot Romance’ is replete with evolving, emotional and hypnotizing structures. Yubik allows the listener to relish in the groove, building anticipation towards an apex of soaring riffs and slo-mo synth swagger.

The elusive ‘Shiver On Shorashim’ further solidifies Yubik’s transcendent abilities. Anchored by shuddering bass tones and contemplative synth phrasing, it sits comfortably between the arcane and enlightened. Rising into an expansive break, hopeful atmospheres eventually melt down amidst waves of white noise, while expressive modulation moves forward with a barrage of speaker-buzzing revelry. Adding further depth and rounding out the release are the broken beats, astral arps and tension filled soundscapes of ‘Children Of Disobedience’. A shadowy journey into strange, surreal electronic hinterlands, perhaps an intro or mid-set piece for the more adventurous DJs out there, it caps off a collection of bold and bracing electronic innovations from the talented German artist.

Yubik effortlessly dodges any single genre with ‘Riot Romance’, opting for a crushingly catchy collection steeped in colourful musicality and thought-provoking atmospherics.

The inaugural release on -102C finds label boss The Cobb launching the imprint with a gorgeous organic house offering. Born out of the success of parent label Deepwibe Underground, -102C will serve as it’s organic house subsidiary, operating with the same level of quality and care. The Cobb first came to our attention in 2020 with a string of releases via Deepwibe Underground. Hailing from Saint Petersburg, Russia, Andrei Yakovlev aka The Cobb has been a primary figure in his cities nightlife for over a decade. As a resident DJ at the legendary Warrp Club, Andrei has delighted crowds with his exquisite programming skills and a fresh blend of organic house and melodic house and techno. With his first ever release landing in September of last year it’s been a quick rise for the Russian artist, notching two more singles and being remixed by progressive music star Dmitry Molosh, while earning the support of Sasha, Solomun and Guy J. Now embarking on a new journey with -102C, The Cobb launches the label with a track appropriately entitled ‘-102C’.

Although early into his career, The Cobb has already flexed his studio repertoire with productions that have touched on both progressive house and melodic house & techno. With ‘-102C’ he diversifies his portfolio further with his first venture into organic house and it does not disappoint. From warm, rhythmic beginnings comes redolent themes and exotic drums. It’s an amalgamation of free flowing organics, muted pianos, fragmented sax riffs and soulful vocal wails which proves most captivating, touching the listener with moments of hope and reflection, as a bed of groovy beats and chunky bass stabs translates that message to the dance floor. A fitting way to launch to a new imprint that most certainly has a bright future, so make sure you are following along. Highly recommended.

-102C follows on from the release of Chapter One with a new single from label manager The Cobb. Firmly established in the worlds of progressive and organic house, the Russian artist has split time between -102C and Deepwibe Underground since first appearing a year ago. Now ten credits deep into his discography, The Cobb has earned support from electronic tastemakers Sasha, Solomun, Nick Warren and Guy J, while also being remixed by progressive music stars Dmitry Molosh, GMJ and Kamilo Sanclemente. As the year approaches it’s fourth quarter The Cobb now returns to -102C with ‘Veter’, alongside a remix from Dmitry Molosh.

With each production The Cobb continues to evolve and his latest entitled ‘Veter’ finds the Russian artist drifting further into organic territory. A deep, almost subterranean groove sets the piece in motion, as breathy vocal gates and layers of exotic percussion get added in. Delicate tones bring a lighter mood as the story evolves, perfectly intertwined with those heartfelt vocal elements and pixie-like effects. Further cascades present themselves during a short and well timed break, allowing for a gentle apex and smooth transition into a glowing finale. A classy production from The Cobb.

A name quite familiar to the Deepwibe family is Dmitry Molosh, who has delivered several Beatport chart hits for the Estonian label group over the last calendar year. Although primarily known for his peak time progressive creations, the Belarusian artist goes deep and organic for his ‘Veter’ interpretation, and with great results I might add. The heartfelt moods from the original translate really well, and with a more pronounced lead theme along with a transcendent, nature inspired backdrop, this is absolutely perfect for an open air style event. A stunning remix from Dmitry, who now has the distinction of excelling at two genres of house music, while The Cobb continues to turn heads as he rises in the world of organic house.
